49  Other / Beginners & Help / Interview: Hack Proves Bitcoin More Secure Than The Wallet That Holds It on: April 05, 2013, 11:53:24 AM

Bitcoin's are making a splash in the market, but are they a safe investment? Joining us now to provide his breaking analysis on the state of this cyber-currency is SiliconANGLE Founding Editor Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins.

Earlier this week the Bitcoin wallet company Instawallet has suspended its service "indefinitely" after falling victim to a hack. Can you briefly explain what Instawallet did and how the site was compromised?

What will happen to Bitcoin holders who had their funds in Instawallet?

Following the Instawallet shut-down, Tokyo-based Mt. Gox, the world's largest Bitcoin exchange, says it's been hit by a major DDoS attack that's causing lengthy trading lags, 502 errors, and in some cases, preventing people from logging into their accounts. Mark, why do you think Bitcoin has been targeted recently?

Mark Tuesday, we spoke with you on Bitcoin and we briefly touched on the pros and cons of such an investment. Michael Pento, a CNBC investment analyst, warned his viewers of "significant inherent dangers" to using Bitcoin. Pento's definition for money is that it must have four elements: it must be rare, indestructible, divisible without losing purchasing power, and cannot be increased by fiat. He said that Bitcoin fails on the first two points. Given these latest developments would you say he was right in his assessment of Bitcoin?

Many investors have been leary of Bitcoin due to security concerns, the Instawallet attack is proof that this type of investment faces the dangers of the internet. Tuesday the value of Bitcoin was $100 per coin and yesterday it reached as high as $145, however now the price reportedly sits below $117. Do you think this scare is the end of the Bitcoin bubble?

With the incredible rise of Bitcoin price, hackers jump into the game and turn PC, laptop into miner slave.

in the bottom of the article, there is a link to sale page of Bitcoin miner bot. Not sure if someone here can build a botnet of bitcoin miner slaves?

Imagine you have 1000 slaves in the network and each only run on CPU at 5MH/s ....

53  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Four Reasons You Shouldn't Buy Bitcoins on: April 03, 2013, 08:36:42 AM
Discussion of Bitcoin is divided into two camps. People who understand the currency well tend to be enthusiastic boosters. Conversely, Bitcoin critics tend not to understand the currency very well. As a consequence, their criticisms tend to be superficial, misguided, or just plain wrong.

That’s unfortunate because Bitcoin does have some real weaknesses. The lack of knowledgeable critics has created an echo chamber effect that I worry may produce (or may have already produced) a bubble. I’m generally a Bitcoin fan (and, full disclosure, I own some Bitcoins), but in the interest of balance, here are four reasons you should think twice before buying Bitcoins.

Blockchain.info disabled UK bank transfer last week. I tried once but I think they are running low of BTC stock or want to keep due to the rise of BTC price.

Do both with FREE Electricity and you will be super rich. Even mining BTC with graphic cards. lol

Once you are rich, build a mini nuclear plan and sell electricity + mining + growing weed under nuclear station. Noone will detect it.

hahahaha

I did buy bitcoin using Bank Transfer (from and to UK bank) and the transaction was successful after a few minutes. It is likely that after the BBC interview, people in UK start paying attention to Bitcoin.

Trying to buy £500 worth Bitcoin today via Bitcoinchain.info but they seem run out of Bitcoin. The demand has been increasing dramatically due to recent bitcoin price rise in the last few months.

59  Economy / Economics / Bitcoin Technical and Bitcoin Market Analysis (March 25th, 2013) on: March 28, 2013, 10:24:00 AM

After 2 months, bitcoin price increases from $25 to $92 on 28th of March 2013 and makes Bitcoin Market Cap total of $1,001,691,445. Since the release of first ASIC bitcoin miner by Avalon, the difficulty also rises from 2.5million to 6.6 million. The current difficulty level, you can make ฿0.0031 per hour or ฿0.075 per day with a 1 GHash/s bitcoin miner excluding power and depreciation cost.

After the break through our cited bitcoin chart resistance between 48 – 50 %, bitcoin prices rallied as expected and the value of bitcoins increased again a massive +55% – in just one more week. This is another example of  a forecast that materialized.

As one an person at stocktwits said it, bitcoin is like the Swiss Franc. With all the Euro crisis, the US debt and global debt increases, unlimited. With unbelievable central bank money printing, people are getting more and more the unique value of bitcoins as store of value and flee from their eroding local currencies into bitcoins.

But based on the technical evidence of the bitcoin charts patterns, this may only be the beginning.

While there can and will be always corrections along the way, BTCUSD are in the major wave III up which has much more upside and even 1000 $ per bitcoin is not impossible.

60  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / An Interview with Yifu Guo, Creator of Avalon miner on: March 27, 2013, 12:53:16 PM
http://www.bitcoinrumors.com/2013/03/27/engineering-the-bitcoin-gold-rush-an-interview-with-yifu-guo-creator-of-the-first-asic-based-miner/

From an ASIC perspective, things got serious in around June or July when Butterfly Labs first released their ASIC lineup, which was a big deal. They promised to ship in October, and in a matter of days took in over a million dollars, That, on the one hand, wass exciting because bitcoin is progressing technologically, but on the other hand, we were aware of the potential risks. We can’t have a monopoly in mining. It's not very good for decentralization.
So this is when we decided we had to step up and this is when developing an ASIC suddenly became a real discussion. In September 2012, we announced that we would offer 300 units if we could get the crowdfunding to do it. We announced this fully knowing that our competitor would deliver the next month, but that was fine since we simply wanted to get the chips and the technology out there in the wild.
We never intended for this to be a real business. But then lo and behold, Butterfly Labs announced that they were delayed. October came and went, November came and went, December came and went and they still hadn’t shipped. Meanwhile, we’re chugging along.
Then in late January we tried to deliver. Well, we tried. It was almost Chinese New Year and nothing happens during Chinese New Year. Fast forward to now, we’re done shipping the first few hundred units, so we’re 90 percent done with batch one.
