NOTE: It is not illegal to own, The Secret Service simply pressured ebay to remove them in order to create that appearance as well as shut down the most active NORFED marketplace. If it is illegal why are they still on Amazon?  http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=norfed

I've still seen them listed on eBay. Are they still removing the listings, or do they just kinda go under the radar? I need to pick up the larger denomination notes to complete my collection at some point.

They didn't get any serious information from what I heard. Just names, addresses, and the like. And I agree with moni3z: if it was Anonymous, they wouldn't shut the hell up about it.
183  Other / Off-topic / What are your thoughts on the Liberty Dollar? on: February 08, 2013, 02:38:23 AM
I like to collect banknotes. I just got some Liberty Dollar notes in the other day to add to my collection and it made me think of starting this topic. I know ALD has a load of controversy surrounding it, but I'm curious to know what people here think/thought of the currency. Did anyone support it before it was hit by the FBI? Anyone support the concept behind it? Anyone hate it to the ends of the Earth?
184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / MultiBit not responding [solved] on: January 27, 2013, 02:00:23 AM
I posted this in the MultiBit subforum, but I'm adding it here since I'm hoping for a quick response.

I'm using the OSX version of MultiBit, and the application is not responding. I don't want to force quit the application in fear of losing the wallet. Will that damage the file?

Update: Issue has been solved. Force quitting the program didn't harm the wallet file, if anyone else has a similar problem and is looking for info. Not sure if I got lucky there or what though.

Update: Issue has been solved. For future reference: force quitting did not corrupt the wallet data, but I don't know if that was luck on my part of not.

Actually, it might be happening again. I notice that each time it happens, I check their website to find that it's loading very slowly. This one has been about eight minutes so far, and their website is delayed on my part as well.

Well, they were under attack recently, according to this post:

Update: Yes it appears it's an amateur DDoS attack coming from some Tor nodes. We've tweaked some things, and the site is working much better now. Will keep monitoring. Regardless of site availability, bet options always work, since Bitcoin is so badass.

Maybe it's happening again.  Although from what I understood the attack was only against their website, not their bet processing server.

I read those a bit ago. I know the attacks shouldn't be affecting their processing, but it's the only thing I can think of right now. I always feel bad for websites that have to deal with that nonsense.  Undecided

I placed a 0.2 BTC bet about 30 minutes ago now and I haven't gotten a response yet. Are delays like this common? I checked the list of unconfirmed transactions on S-Dice and I don't see mine listed there. This is my first day using S-Dice, so I'm not fully familiar with how long these things take.

Quick edit: the bet has two confirmations now.

Final edit: It's gone through now, but a half hour is a bit long. Curious as to the cause.

I think if your transaction doesn't include a fee then they wait for it to get a confirmation before processing it, whether it "needs" a fee according to the network rules or not.

Occasionally bets take a long time to process even if they do have a fee included, but that's pretty rare.

I have a fee with all of them. I also had a second transaction take another 30+ minutes, but after that it's been smooth. Not sure what the deal has been.  Huh

Have you tried BitVisitor, CoinTube, or EarnFreeBitCoins? I used all those when I was getting started with BitCoin, and they always paid out pretty quick. Haven't used them in quite some time though.

I've got a brand new (still wrapped and sealed) copy of CoD4 that I'm looking to sell for BTC1 (that price includes shipping). I only ship to the lower 48 states. Willing to use an escrow. Reply here or PM me if you're interested.

He gets mad at being labeled a potential scammer, but then he keeps doing questionable things like this...

I didn't see a Facebook picture in the link you gave. Was it taken down already?

Anyways, I do agree with you that Micon is being obnoxious about the whole thing. I think the community tends to agree, given his level of ignores at the moment.
193  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitInstant extremely poor design, lots of confusion, poor service on: January 26, 2013, 06:56:07 AM
I was referring to the chain of emails you posted earlier. You specifically wanted him to email you from a BitInstant.com address. He emailed you from a different email address (one that was in your original email). I didn't say a thing about the message board PMs.

The resistance to supplying information, I said, relates to most issues I see people having with BitInstant here on the forums. That goes along with not always accepting the support they're given. I didn't say that both applied to your case. I did see the second scenario applied to your case though: from what you've posted, Charlie emailed you twice from one email address before you requested (through the forum) that he email you from a BitInstant.com email address. I personally don't see why the email address he used should matter in terms of getting the issue resolved quickly (especially since it was an email address that you had included in your initial email on the 24th). I'm sure you have your reasons for it.

I will admit that I don't, of course, know all the details of your transaction: that's between you and the company. And I apologize if I made a harsh judgment on the situation based on information only seen here. But I'm only going off details from of your public complaint against BitInstant. If it was a matter you wanted to keep completely private, you didn't have to make a case before the BitCoin community about it.

As a side note, I don't think my "asskissing" threw you off as much as you believe. Your post was pretty hefty regardless. Tongue

Congratulations, you have diverted the topic of this thread into a heated debate about religion.

I don't know if any of this could be called "heated."
195  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How are BitCoins that are stored offline still tracked in the network? on: January 26, 2013, 03:34:18 AM
That's even more depressing.

Why???  Huh

They're just throwing away money, right? Why on Earth would anyone intentionally turn down the free BTC?
196  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How are BitCoins that are stored offline still tracked in the network? on: January 26, 2013, 03:23:50 AM
. . . For one, BitCoins cannot be destroyed (to my knowledge) . . .
They can be, but not by an average user using any of the commonly used wallets.

As an example, a miner can choose not to claim the miner fees in the coinbase transaction when they mine a block.  In this case all the bitcoins that would have been fees are no longer associated with any address and have therefore vanished from existence.

So it would have to be done by someone who is willing to give up money just to mess with a handful of people? That's a depressing thought...  Sad

Nobody is being messed with.  It is the Bitcoin equivalent of intentionally lighting a stack of cash that belongs to you on fire.

That's even more depressing.

Now if you want some stuff that's really out there, check out some of the apocrypha. I recommend the Gospel According to Thomas, my favorite line of which is "Blessed is the lion who consumes a man, for he shall become a man. But cursed is the man who consumes a lion, for he shall become a lion." It's a wonder why it was never included in Biblical canon. Tongue

Recommending the book of Enoch just for additional WTFity.

That's the one that contains the background of the nephilim, right? That was another strange one.
199  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [Wanted] MTUSD loan, 1%/mo, BTC collateral, Up to $10K on: January 25, 2013, 08:35:31 PM
“You shall not charge interest on loans to your brother, interest on money, interest on food, interest on anything that is lent for interest. You may charge a foreigner interest, but you may not charge your brother interest, that the Lord your God may bless you in all that you undertake in the land that you are entering to take possession of it." Deuteronomy 23:19-20

"If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the girl’s virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done a disgraceful thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father’s house. " Deuteronomy 22:20-1

Crazy that people are still influenced by these ancient "teachings".  Let's hope Meni doesn't have any daughters!  Grin

If you look at the culture of that time period, it's not that unusual: the Hebrews were not the only people who used stoning as a form of capital punishment, and virginity was a valued thing to look for in a woman (that also spanned across various cultures and religions of the time).

It's also important to note that Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy were not books of teaching, but books of law. It's sort of like comparing the works of Plato to the US Constitution: philosophy vs. law. Different purposes.

There might be some people interested in your services on the forum. I would open a thread in the services section of the marketplace forums once you're out of newbie jail. Break down your services into a list with prices either for each service or per hour or per case (however you want to charge) for people to look at. You'll also want to come up with payment options: will you accept escrow? Do you require payment up front, or only after you provide the requested information?

The more options you give people, the better success you'll have. I would recommend working out some sort of escrow, at least in the beginning: people aren't quick to trust new members with their money around here. Do your best to provide good service and you'll have a good rep in no time. Wink
