141  Economy / Marketplace / [ANN] IJustWannaBuy.com first e-Commerce site in China to accept BitCoin payment on: April 01, 2013, 07:54:17 AM
Note: I am not a representative of IwannaBuy, but they are new to the bitcoin world and I am helping them to post their press release here. We here in Beijing are very excited to finally have a local ecommerce shop accepting bitcoins!

Official Press Release:

Quote from: IJustWannaBuy.com
IwannaBuy first e-Commerce site in China to accept Bitcoin payment

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Online retail marketplace www.IjustwannaBuy.com (IwannaBuy) will from today be the first e-commerce
website in China to accept Bitcoin payment for products.

IwannaBuy, which specializes in providing pollution protection products for expats living in China, will
begin accepting Bitcoin payment, through BitPay.com, alongside traditional online payment methods
including PayPal.

IwannaBuy Founder Paul Afshar commented: “As an e-commerce company, safe, simple and reliable
payment solutions are important for our customers, and Bitcoin payment provides us with exactly this.

“Bitcoin’s growing user base cannot be ignored. We’re proud that, from today, we’ll be the first e-
commerce website in China able to accept Bitcoin payment. It’s an exciting development for us and our
customers.”

“Many of IwannaBuy’s customers don’t have online banking enabled for their Chinese bank accounts, or
have encountered problems with using PayPal or AliPay for online payment.

“In Beijing, this means they have problems buying the pollution products we sell, including indoor Air
Purifiers and anti-pollution masks, to protect their health from poor air quality in the city. Bitcoin
provides an easy to use payment platform for a medium sized company like ours.

“While Bitcoin payment is still a nascent and developing platform, we want to help pioneer its use in the
world’s biggest consumer market.”

IwannaBuy customer, Jake, an expat entrepreneur based in Beijing commented: “I’ve always wanted to
purchase products online in China, but without an international credit card, or online payment for my
Chinese bank account it’s always proved difficult.

“I’d definitely purchase products with my Bitcoins from e-commerce websites that accept Bitcoin
payment in China – hopefully IwannaBuy’s move will spur many more websites in China to start accepting
Bitcoins.”

END

No thanks, I don't need any redneck/survivalist wackjob gear.
Indeed. It's a hobby for some of us and not for others.  Hopefully we will have something you will need in the future.  Our distributors also carry the latest electronics, audio, visual etc... stuff.  It just takes a while to get everything populated in the store.  Keep checking back! Cheers.

Well I was just trolling, but that's some damn fine PR Smiley Certain ASIC companies could learn a lot from you.

Would a Bitcoin-paying customer be paid a claim in BTC or USD?
145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll, FinCEN Guidance, Good or Bad? on: March 19, 2013, 03:52:33 AM
It's unfortunate that the US Gov't is sticking their nose in Bitcoin and will be forcing US-based bitcoin users to comply with whatever strange hoops they decide to make us jump through... but this is also a big step towards being viewed as something legitimate in the eyes of the mainstream. And of course the government would not just ignore it forever... it was either regulate it somehow or attempt to make it outright illegal.

I think it will be a pain in the ass, but overall will probably be good for bitcoin.

Not a completed design, if it wins I will spend much more time polishing the design. Anyways, here's my entry.

Tonight's meetup was a massive success! Thanks to everyone for coming! Some stats:

* We had 14 people total... more than I expected!
* Attendance was split about 50/50 between Chinese people and foreigners. Among the foreigners we had Swiss, Brasilian, American, and Hong Kong people in attendance
* About half the people who came didn't know much about bit coin but came to learn more about it.
* A lot of people learned about bitcoin tonight! Including some people who just happened to be at the bar, but not for the meetup.

We will definitely be having more events like this in the future... if you'd like to attend, please respond in this thread or PM me your contact info.
151  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] FIRST Feature-length Documentary on Bitcoin, 100% BITCOIN FUNDED! on: March 09, 2013, 01:57:56 AM
Monster Tent has the best idea in making multiple short parts. This way it can stay current and also at a later time can be watched together to show the whole larger picture. And if one section is slightly outdated by the end it wont matter because it will be understood by the viewer.

Also, releasing shorter parts will allow faster completion of each part ensuring faster market availability to the consumer. If Bitcoin was not changing so rapidly I would say "just make a single, standard, long documentary".

-Doug

+1, I like this idea! Would be interesting to look back at the series and see how bitcoin developed and evolved... a 1-part documentary would be more like a snapshot into a specific time.

Nice job GGGGG Wink

I've been in Beijing for the last 4 Chinese New Year's (ever since my first trip after the 08' Olympics). I'm now even more upset that I missed this year, or else I would have loved to join this meetup, as I'm VERY interested in the status of Bitcoins in China. I should be in Beijing soon enough and would love to take part in the next meetup.  Please keep me informed.

Looking forward to hearing about this tomorrow.

Bummer. If it goes well I’m hoping it can become a regular thing... feel free.to PM me next time you come to Beijing!

I’ve been finding people to come outside of this forum, too... bring it anyways, someone might want them. It.would also be cool to show to people who don’t know.much about bitcoin  Smiley
154  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many coins will be lost due to people dying? on: March 07, 2013, 01:47:07 AM
I was wondering about this myself. I am in Afghanistan and have to consider these things.

Is it true that if you die while in the service, the military will return your dog tags to your loved ones? Perhaps you could get a private key engraved onto a dog tag and carry it with you, and let your family know how to use it in the event of your death. Does the military even do dog tags anymore?
155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On reddit now - "for every $20 you donate to a charity i'll send you a 1btc" on: March 05, 2013, 02:35:45 PM

But he is not giving $200, he is giving $200 worth of BTC.  I assume most charities arent accepting BTC

yet.

I like what this guy on the reddit thread said about it:

Quote
it's an interesting point. But value is all relative, suppose he was good miner back in the day and has a ton of coins? He's taking something that was essentially worthless and generating a lot of good from it.

Suppose the value is more than just the "profit" being made by us here tonight, it's actual real world people that may benefit from this.
156  Local / 中文 (Chinese) / Re: 北京比特币聚会 - Beijing Bitcoin Meetup on: March 05, 2013, 12:51:14 AM
Sorry, I'm not in Beijing this weekend.
But one of my friend will be there.
Wish you guys have a great time.
See you next time.

That's too bad, but hopefully we can make this a regular thing. I think Bitcoin is only as strong as the community behind it, so having meetups like this to meet other users is a good way to strengthen the community. Glad to hear your friend is coming, hopefully you can make it to the next one!

----

Hello, now that Spring Festival is over and everyone is back in Beijing, how about getting some Bitcoin meetup action going? I'm thinking this Saturday, 7:00pm, at the previously discussed Second Place in Wudaokou. I've already arranged it with the owner and he knows we are coming.

Location: 2nd Place - Haidian, Wudaokou, Hua Qing Jia Yuan Bldg 7 (the one with the McDonalds), 1602c.
Time: This saturday, March 9th, at 7:00 PM

2nd Place only serves beverages, so you can eat before coming or order food and have it delivered to Second Place. The more people in attendance the better, so bring some friends who use bitcoin, or are even just interested in it! The meetup will be a great opportunity for teaching people more about Bitcoin. If you wanna bring something cool for trade or barter, that's cool too!

Hope to see you there!
