141  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When explaining Bitcoin to someone, what are some key points to speak about? on: October 23, 2014, 02:45:16 PM
I personally tell them about the decentralized nature and the lack of a middle man in transactions. What would BCT recommend to grab attention?

To understand Bitcoin, you have to understand money: www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2YllvbJo6g

So wtf is happening?

Thanks to Satoshi, society can now have a separation of money and state.  In the future, the monetary policies of politicians and bankers will be meaningless, as more people abandon fiat.
143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin changing my ideology from socialism to libertarianism! What about you? on: October 18, 2014, 08:09:41 PM
Because my friends, this battlecry of individualism is, to be frank, fucking scary to listen/read.

Objectivism and libertarianism aren't the same thing, although they do share a lot of the same principles.  Ayn Rand didn't care much for libertarianism.

What part of individual liberty scares you?  There's nothing in libertarianism that says you can't form a voluntary collective, if collectivism is your thing.
144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin changing my ideology from socialism to libertarianism! What about you? on: October 16, 2014, 07:19:03 PM
Oh wait, bitcoin is doing precisely that foir the first time in history!!! I almost forgot!

Well, people did trade amongst themselves without a government established money before they came along and hijacked it, but it has been a while.
145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin changing my ideology from socialism to libertarianism! What about you? on: October 16, 2014, 04:45:57 PM
Once you give power to the state, the power will be used as directed by the highest bidder.  The only way to avoid that is to not give the power to the state.
146  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin changing my ideology from socialism to libertarianism! What about you? on: October 16, 2014, 04:34:10 PM
Corporations only have power that is given to them by the state.  Take the power away from the state and the corporations are impotent.  A corporation is nothing more than a legal entity created by the state.
147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin War on: October 16, 2014, 04:08:41 PM
When will the first war over Bitcoin commence, and in what form will it take?

The war on Bitcoin has already begun.  It's a war between ideas.  Because ideas are bulletproof, propaganda and lies are going to be the enemies' weapons of choice.
148  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin changing my ideology from socialism to libertarianism! What about you? on: October 16, 2014, 02:54:11 PM
It's not the employers that are responsible for this situation, but the bankers and politicians.
The corporate elite and the political elite are the same people. It's a completely corrupt caste system now. They go from the private to the public sphere and back.

Let me repeat that, the employers/executives/owners and the political leaders are the SAME PEOPLE.

The state is not a creation of the corporations.  Corporations are a creation of the state.  Corporations derive their power from the state.  The solution is to take away the state's authority to initiate the use of force and make all interaction and exchange voluntary.
149  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin changing my ideology from socialism to libertarianism! What about you? on: October 16, 2014, 02:30:55 PM
The scientific and intellectual community is always trying to shake people out of their haze of propaganda and work-exhaustion, but it's difficult. The plebs come home from their miserable jobs, and they don't want to learn, they don't want to think and debate. Can you blame them?

Thinking and learning require effort and commitment - real mental energy! They have none left as their employer has sucked it all out of them, along with their passion and ambition. How do we reach people who only want to turn their brains off and be entertained when they're not at work?

It's not the employers that are responsible for this situation, but the bankers and politicians.  It's their debt-based inflationary monetary system which is designed to ensure that most of us remain little more than serfs until we're eligible for Social Security.  Thanks to Satoshi, we can now opt out of that system.

Capitalism cannot exist without systemic, mass-scale violence. Ergo, any person who wants to live in a world governed by reason musit be opposed to capitalism.

Bullshit.  Capitalism is the only economic system that can succeed without fraud or initiating the use of force.  Voluntary trade between free individuals would lead to an incredibly prospeous society.  Thankfully, Bitcoin will move us closer to that ideal.

Capitalism without force? Capitalism without fraud? Bullshit indeed! Thank you for prefacing your statement with that honest qualifier!

Please tell me when and where in history EITHER of those two scenarios has existed anywhere other than your imagination. I'd sure love to hear about this mythical capitalist utopia... Maybe I can visit?

Free market capitalism hasn't been tried yet.  However, history is replete with examples of how communism, socialism, fascism, and cronyism all inevitably fail.  With the separation of money and state that Bitcoin achieves, true free market capitalism may finally have a chance.
152  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: im done on: October 11, 2014, 06:09:15 AM
this is probably a meaningless post here, since everyone talks about crypto
but ive reasoned im giving up on listening to these forums and caring about crypto all together,

i dont speak for everyone obviusly but specifically the altcoin community
is filled with a lot of greed

what i see is a few group of people cloning coins over and over again, creating whatever shady method to get the most of their own coin, then dumping it
and repeating

while the supporters are just tryin to make money in the proccess, which is kind of lame since a majority lose money to the devs

if one coin wins this at some poitn i hope its dogecoin, because its funny and doesnt involve deaththreats from the community

and my point about the altcoin cloning is probably obvious to anyone who has been readin the altcoin forums lon enough but everytime i check them i just et miserable and feel bad for the people who are posting their hatred against devs
but whatever if someone finds it enjoyable to follow / mine / trade altcoins its good for them jus tspeaking for myself

So long.  Be sure to come back and let us know how fiat is working out for you from time to time.

Do you realize that the greatest ever economic development policy in the history of the United States is also the most socialist in the history of the United States? Lincoln's Homestead Act.

Anyone wish to comment on this point ? Any of you libertarians out there ? Or will it be one of those little pearls of insight that is forever condemned to shine alone within its own private, yet perspicacious shell ?

I'm sure Whitney Houston thoght that first hit of crack was the best thing that ever happened to her, but where is she now?  Sure, government intervention in the market feels great in the beginning, but not so much when society becomes addicted to it.

156  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does bitcoin solve more problems than it creates? on: October 10, 2014, 01:43:06 PM
Bitcoin only solve one problem: Fiat money being legally counterfeited everyday, while with bitcoin you can not counterfeit it even you pass a law

Bitcoin also solves this problem:

Mike Maloney is actually making a video on bitcoin. Can't wait to watch it.

Good to hear!

I have to agree.  He seems to be one of the few big name goldbugs that is really trying to wrap his head around the concept of a decentralized, P2P, open source, cryptographic, ledger-based currency.

Jumping on a moving bus is dangerous, especially the bus on the way down.

Don't you mean "jumping off of a bus"?

Yes, jumping off of a bus is dangerous, but staying on a bus that is headed for a cliff is even more dangerous.
158  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin changing my ideology from socialism to libertarianism! What about you? on: October 08, 2014, 03:35:01 PM
The term "capitalist" is actually a term created by Karl Marx in describing and demonizing the free market.

Interesting, I've learned something new today.  It's good to know that I believe in something that Karl Marx despised.

An absolute free society, anarchism, can only work in heaven;   It requires absolute morality for self interest to work without outside force to achieve justice for all.  That outside force in a government is the level or scale of law required, preferable a minimum because nobody wants to live in a police state.  That force materializes in the power of government over individuals.  Unfortunately all power is corrupting to those who wield it.

We live today in a system that has degenerated into "crony capitalism".   Big government and big business conspire against their enemies in business and politics within our system, using violence against the individual, while violence used by a state is only justifiable when used to protect the individual's rights.

Perhaps Bitcoin will return us, and the world, to a more capitalist/free market reality.

Yeah, I don't think a society with no government is possible.  That's why I'm a minarchist and not an anarchist.
159  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin changing my ideology from socialism to libertarianism! What about you? on: October 08, 2014, 02:44:41 PM
I don't like the word capitalism, it reminds me of my grandfathers smelly underpants, but the free market will work if Bitcoin stays decentralized.

There are people out there that that call themselves capitalists and give capitalism a bad name.  Just like there are people that call themselves Christians or Muslims and give Christianity or Islam a bad name.  Those who believe in using the violence and power of the state to protect or establish a monopoly are not capitalists, despite what they may call themselves.
160  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin changing my ideology from socialism to libertarianism! What about you? on: October 08, 2014, 02:31:22 PM
This system of carefully organized hierarchy-based violence, we call "capitalism".

Free market capitalism has nothing to do with violence, at least not the initiation of violence.

Capitalism doesn't work, thats why he used quotations. Nothing that gets centralized over time does. What we have now can best be described as a crony plotocracy.
If you want proof, take a close look at the BitLicense

Free market capitalism most certainly does work.  We'll have a much better world when the crony plutocracy is replaced with capitalism.
