Back from my week away and 3 hours after I get back, got into a pretty bad car accident. No one was *seriously* injured. Just a broken thumb for me and a bit of whiplash for everyone. I'll try to answer the questions I noticed real quick though. (not fun typing) Spondoolies are of interest and I'm looking to do something with them. I can assure you I'm not paying that outrageous price though BFL: no ship date in sight, but everything is ready for them. I'm running the numbers to figure out what to expect and see if there is a better way to handle the situation. GHash no longer has the "bonus" producing equipment on it, but it seems to be producing less coins on other pools.... Something weird with GHash... Tin foil hat wearing time but I might be able to add something to your comment - payout is better on GHash compared to other pools. I've read that they might be doing some variety of greedy mining, not releasing their blocks right away to try to run ahead of the pack and guarantee a better payout and for that reason they tend to pay a little bit better than other pools. Of course it's a crazy internet theory at best It's not crazy internet theory... There's something going on there and I've spoken to some of the smartest Bitcoin minds about it and they all agree. Running a 72 hour test against BTCGuild and have someone contacting Eleuthria about it. I had considered the fact that they may be greedy miners for a couple months now. Just posted to reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/280s3m/eligius_pool_operator_catches_block_withholding/<speculation> If ghash.io has more than 50% of the network hash available to them, but don't want to spook people, they direct hash at other pools, but withhold winning blocks. Which makes it more likely that they find blocks.... </speculation> grnbrg.

If You are betting that BTC price will increase, you would be better off just converting cash to BTC and holding it. ;-)
I have yet to have invested in anything BTC related where this wasn't the case. :sigh: grnbrg.

Can we please hear from LabRat regarding getting listed on havelock??
June 1-8 I will have limited cell service if any, but I will be back early June 8th and everything should go as normal while I'm gone.
(And I'm on vacation, and have been more focused on enjoying myself than on responding to forum posts. I'm back home tomorrow night, though. Boooooooo. ) grnbrg. Edit: I seem to recall LR indicating that Havelock wasn't going to happen, but I forget the reasons.

Is it just me... or was anyone else expecting to see a "data center" when looking at these pics? All I see is someone's spare room or even living room? It doesn't really bother me too much as providing it doesn't burn down it will still produce the same hash output... But, calling it a data center makes it seem like it is in a building designed for computers with racks, secure access (theft resistance?), fire suppressant systems, proper power backups, resilient internet connections, all humidity and climate controlled... you get the idea. To me it just looks like a decent setup in someone's house, flat or apartment. (I like the giant fans behind each wire rack!, were they turned on? Or just there in case of air-con failure?)
The locations are pretty nondescript from the outside -- industrial(ish) strip mall spaces. A "real" datacentre (with " a building designed for computers with racks, secure access (theft resistance?), fire suppressant systems, proper power backups, resilient internet connections, all humidity and climate controlled) would run in the millions and take a lot of time to build. You can rent space from established operators, but the power requirements for mining are absurd when compared to general server operations. Operating in rented rack space in an established DC host would likely (and I'm pulling a number out of my arse, here) increase monthly costs by a factor of 10. I didn't post the pictures I took of the AC units (and I only have pictures of the interior blowers, as I didn't take exterior pictures for obvious reasons) because they're even more boring than the hardware pictures. But there is significant cooling that was added to each of the two locations. And there was a *lot* of Bitfury hardware, although it may be hard to judge. There is also an out-of-state DC that I didn't get to see that has a lot of the newer hardware. So, for my part, not really too surprised. grnbrg.

Pix! Let's see if BitcoinTalk craps on all of these. Or my webserver....
Thanks for that grnbrg. I tipped you today's dividend payment. Thanks much. Thanks! Appreciated! grnbrg.

Pix! Let's see if BitcoinTalk craps on all of these. Or my webserver.... Edit: This isn't working well. You're all going to have to click for the pix. Secret Data Centre Number 1DC1-1DC1-2DC1-3DC1-4DC1-5DC1-6Secret Data Centre Number 2DC2-1DC2-2The last of the BFL Singles: DC2-3Waiting for the Moarchs. (Just two more weeks!) DC2-4DC2-5It's a box of fans! DC2-6DC2-7DC2-8All in all, about what you'd expect from a data centre (or two) built fast and cheap. Wire shelving, box fans, piles of power supply boxes stacked in the corners. Netbooks and network gear strewn about. Reasonably tame snarls of CAT-5 spaghetti. What I was surprised by was the electrical stuff, which was all done "correctly" -- conduit for the cables, everything well attached, nothing warm to the touch. Lab_Rat indicated it had all been cleared by the building inspectors, and it looked it. Not too exciting to look at pictures, but here they are! grnbrg.

I've had a busy couple of days with Lab_Rat, some of it work, and most of it fun (We went to Six Flags Great Adventure for the day, today....) and I've moved on to my vacation in Washington DC. I just finished the 4 hour drive from New Jersey, and am going to bed. I have pictures from both the NJ data centres, and will post them tomorrow evening. I demanded a huge bribe from Zach, which he refused to pay, so I'm just going to have to spill all the secrets. The fast cars. The loose women. The SS Kerpopples.... grnbrg. (But really, I didn't see or hear anything particularly surprising during my visit. The pictures will be of interest, I'm sure, but there's not much else to report.) And now.... Bed time. And you did all this on whose money? :eyeroll: Mine. Although he did buy me an ice cream today, I suppose. grnbrg. He bought you ice cream? Was it good for you? Did you get a candy bar too? No. But it's the last thing I remember before waking up in my hotel room, in a bathtub full of ice, and a badly stitched incision in my side.... grnbrg.

I hate blowing dates I've set. Sorry.
Divs and more info will be done ASAP. Probably tomorrow. Zach has been out of town (and away from the cold wallets) and just got back today.
The reasons behind the delay are reasonable, and will be shared shortly. I can't really say more at this point.

I've got a note from Zach... Divs may be late this week, possibly as late as Monday. I guess he's on another of his secret missions, and we all know how well things work out if he has someone else do the divs....

And this is why answering even simple questions tends to be an exercise in beating one's head against the wall.
The short version is that (to my knowledge) LRM is not actively selling "new" contracts. When people have asked about buying, I have pointed them at the trading thread. If a buyer insisted on buying directly from LRM, I'm reasonably sure that Zach would accommodate, but less certain about price. My guess is that he would ask slightly above market ask, so as not to disturb things. If it was a significant purchase, perhaps somewhat below market ask. The last time (in December) that contracts were offered, they were priced at about 10% above the current market rate.
So again. If you want to buy direct from LRM, let me know, and I will get a price for you.
