Jesus Christ people, ponzi schemes have been around forever and they always, always, always implode and end badly for the people involved. How can you possibly be involved with a scam that tells you up front that it's a scam? Oh, you thought you were smart enough to get out before people started getting scammed?
That's the whole mechanism of a scam. Find people who think they're smarter than the scam.
My friend keeps telling me that bitcoin is a ponzi scheme and I argue otherwise, but if it were a ponzi scheme, apparently there are plenty of people involved that would still be happy to buy in.
sheesh.

Heard an interview with the developer on Let's Talk Bitcoin. Very interesting stuff and they claim to have nailed down security concerns.

I agree that there is a danger of government(s) manipulating bitcoin value to their own ends but holding on to such a small amount is peanuts for a budget that is measured in trillions. If the US (or any other) government really wanted to cause trouble, my concern would be them simply going on exchanges, buying up billions of dollars worth and then dumping them enough times to just kill the market.
I would be surprised if they are even allowed to do anything with the ones they have now until there is some kind of resolution to the case. I'm not a lawyer so I could be wrong.

It seems like for a lot of people involved in bitcoin, there's a need for drama all the time. Talking about issues and possible solutions is not a reason to freak out. And just because people might not agree with you on something doesn't mean they're the spawn of satan.
I'm a big believer in btc but there sure are a lot of people in this community who seems to always have something to scream about. Chill out.

I don't know about a new currency. That just seems redundant and unnecessary, but it would be nice if there was a way to have physical bitcoins that could be traded without any sort of device. I know there are some that are more like souvenirs but I'd like a coin or bill that has a certain, stated value that I can be confident in and can trade with others.

I'm a bit believer and supporter of btc as well but it's a mistake to think that this is something that cannot be stopped. It could be destroyed or made unusable pretty easily if enough forces lined up against it. Apparently the Feds have recently taken control of tens of thousands of btc and I'm sure they could wreak havoc on the value with those and by quickly buying up large numbers and manipulating the market.
I've heard people for a while talk about how BTC cannot be stopped, touched or bothered by anybody and I think that kind of hubris could be dangerous. Maybe one day BTC will be so widely used and ubiquitous that this will be true but right now it is very vulnerable to bad players.
As the saying goes "Don't get cocky."

Unfortunatly it was a bit more than a few cents.... but lets talk in again in a few month from now...everyhing else is speculation
And you are right, most people have never heard about bitcoin.... and never will.
What makes you so sure that we will only go up from here ? Bitcoin has proven to be very volatile and we know that every rally comes to an end.
Everything which goes up, especially as parabolic as bitcoin, will come down at some stage. The only question is, how deep will it go. I donīt believe it will be single digits, but double digits could very well happen. In my view much more likely than another 100% up.
Curious why, if you're so bearish on the future of BTC, that you bother to have an account and comment here. Not saying your shouldn't but it just seems to be a waste of your time.

good job guys. I wish you had a feature where it gave us a running conversion in whatever currency we choose just to confirm our amounts. I had a friend accidently send out over 20 btc because he wasn't paying attention to his decimal points and I think that kind of clarity is going to be needed for the average user.
thanks!

I finally escape the newbie jail to read this kind of stuff? Why is it so hard for people to get access to the regular forums when craziness like this is going on?

Are people having that hard of a time buying? Hey, I'll sell 25 for $149 each.
Same offer to you that I made to bitcoinbabyy: I'd be willing to buy them all for $110 each. ($2750 for all 25). In both cases the offer is only good for the next 6 hours or until the MtGox current price drops below $108.50, whichever comes first. ha, I don;t have any for sale at that price. Good luck.

I started to sign up with mt.gox and just didn't like all the info they required. With all the problems they've had, I would stay clear of them for now. Just my opinion. I could be wrong.

I'm not sure I understand how things work either since it appears I've lost time logged in since I was last here. Maybe I'm just remembering wrong.

I'm not a tech guy but as I understand it you basically are using a tricycle in a Nascar race. The miner rigs in use now are just too much faster than what you're using.

I want it to become as easy to use as any other fiat currency. The UI is horrible right now and for it to move forward with the general population it has to become as simple as logging into Amazon etc. I'm a big fan of the technology but we are reaching a point in its maturation where it needs to become easy to understand and use by everybody who shops at Walmart.
That's all I want.

Ok, so here's another post. I didn't know the parameters. I guess I should read more.

I've been in bitcoins for a couple of months but never posted on this forum so newbie I am.
I know that there is a lot of discussion of what is needed to move bitcoin into the mainstream and make it more viable as a functioning currency. I agree with that and with the recent crash and the resulting fallout, it seems to me that it's more important than ever that steps be taken by the community to move bitcoin further forward in acceptance. The area that would be most accepted and effective I think would be in charities around the world.
It is important that there be an emphasis on the international capabilities for charities for obvious reasons because bitcoin provides such a simple method for somebody in the US for instance to donate to a charity in Cambodia or whatever two countries best fit the example. The goal would be to create an awareness of bitcoins capabilities with organizations around the world to increase their income capability and for those charities to make the first steps needed to accept bitcoins.
What I suggest is an announcement by a bitcoin group or community that on a certain day of the year, say 3 months after the announcement, a particular day will designated as "Bitcoins for Humanity" or whatever the phrase would be and that organizations who have the capability to accept bitcoins will be listed in a central database with links to their sites etc so that bitcoin holders can decide on the charity(s) they wish to contribute to on that day.
It would be a positive, awareness building campaign that has the side effect of pushing bitcoin further along in its development.
I'm curious what others think about such a project and very interested in suggestions in improving my initial concept.
