521  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: RIP Doge on: December 27, 2013, 08:40:09 PM
I haven't a clue what will happen with Doge (I don't own any).

The good
The number of subscribers to reddit.com/r/dogegoin is very impressive (over 18k right at this time).  I've always used that as a metric for measuring 'real' bitcoin growth, so I take that number quite seriously.

It is also intriguing to watch what happens when you put viral marketing memes with crypto, that's a nifty mix, and who knows, there could be another round of virality to come.  Bigger media outlets could report about the doge madness, seeing as it's a pretty wacky story, I could imagine wired, io9, techcrunch, boing boing etc writing about it if they haven't already, and maybe more mainstream outlets (I saw tech crunch already wrote about the doge wallet hacking).  Also on the plus it has brought in a lot of new people into crypto.

The bad
I do find it an annoying meme though, in that to me it's not funny at all, although I find it amusing how a meme-coin can take the piss out of money, the actual 'doge' meme is stupid and doesn't exactly help anyone use proper communicative English.  Stupid memes like this lowers the quality of the internet, plus I mean, "doge" should be spelt "doggy".  And there's no innovation on bitcoin at all.

All in all I don't particularly like it due to the stupidity of the meme, but it is weird and wonderful in it's own sort of way.  I've been considering buying a few today but it would be a total gamble so I've decided not to (for now).

527  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Has Nxt died already? on: December 27, 2013, 11:34:12 AM
I think it's just a glitch in the Nxt API which is why it was removed from coinmarketcap, which will be fixed, and there's another btc/Nxt exchange almost ready.  I can log into dgex no problem.  Just some bumps being ironed out, same as usual, as far as I can gather anyway.

528  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 27, 2013, 10:45:08 AM

How many comments/likes is enough for Cryptsy to add a new currency?
About 300-400 likes.

Done.  I think I was number 51.
529  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is dgex.com a scam? on: December 27, 2013, 08:32:40 AM
No it's not a scam, the withdrawals are processed manually.  If you have a problem ask here:

Okay I will go back and read again.

But meanwhile, I so far still do tend to think that we should be about art development, specifically about free open source art development, rather than about art per se. Art per se includes non free non open source art, and its development is often non free non open source development.

We should in my current opinion as developed (hee hee) so far be about the free open source development of free open source art.

There are plenty of places where people can submit and maybe even be rewarded for non free non open source art development and even the actual pieces of art developed by such processes/means.

-MarkM-

Doesn't allowing artists to earn DVC by giving away their work on Devtome/devmusic encourage the development of art?  That should be the main thing, rewarding developers (in this case, artists) with DVC who give away their work on Devtome.

A song isn't a like a piece of software where there are going to be lots of people wanting to make a copy and make changes requiring a commented code.  Some genres such as solo guitar pieces might have people wanting to be able to play them, so extra DVC could be offered for score/tab (though as we've mentioned there are problems verifying a musical score is 'accurate').  A very small number of people might be interested in making a remix of a song, in which case the files with all the different sound layers would be a useful option to allow for uploading (though will take up a lot of disk space, so might not be worth it).

The whole idea of uploading noises from instruments to somehow make it easier for people to develop music and not actually being about rewarding the development of actual music is a bit weird.  Why not keep it simple and reward music creators/producers (i.e. tracks you can listen to) with DVC and have a bunch of admins and users paid a small amount of DVC to listen to the uploaded tracks and rate them.

request at unocoin (Indian btc site) to add DVC
https://www.unocoin.com/contact.php

Done.  Everyone please do this!

I got a reply from Unocoin regarding adding a BTC/DVC trading pair.  Their reply was:

"Sure i have made a note of it. Our next plans is to get LTC. We will try to include DVC as well some time in future."

It's worth more people contacting them asking for DVC to be added to make sure they know there is demand!

I think there should be a giveaways section somewhere else.

I think it's important to understand that in contrast to pieces of text, music has to be listened to (meaning with your ears) to be able to review and judge its quality.

lol  Grin Bravo on that insight. :p

But I know what you mean, they'll have to be admins to listen to the tracks, which will be time consuming.  At least until there are enough listeners who can rate the tracks in an automated way like imdb.  I would really enjoy rating music, and even giving feedback being primarily a musician myself.  This whole idea of devtome moving into music is really exciting, I have a bunch of tracks I'd love to put up on this.

No no no. If you think that listening to the music takes a long time, imagine how long it will take to read the score and perform the music yourself to be able to judge its merit.

 Cool

That's the point I was trying to make. Maybe it did go under.

It depends if we are talking about music scores or music tracks.  For tracks it will take some time to listen, but that's potentially do-able.  For scores as you say it's impossible to judge the quality without listening to it being performed/recorded.  I'm not sure how scores can be accommodated.

537  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory - Discussion Thread on: December 22, 2013, 04:40:31 PM

matt608: make sure you're running ubuntu 10.04 or 12.04, then grab our offline package off our site and follow the instructions. They're quite simple and you shouldnt have too much trouble setting it up. If you have issues, let us know at support@bitcoinarmory.com

Thanks but how do I install anything on the offline computer if I can't connect it to the internet and if when I plug my external HD into it (having downloaded the armoury software onto it) nothing happens?  I also don't know how to change the operating system from Linux to Ubuntu.

Earlier in this thread someone reccomended this computer to use as an offline wallet, they said it comes with the right operating system, linux:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001IBHVCA/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

So I bought it.  But apparently there are different types of linux and so it doesn't work...

Do I download ubuntu from here?
http://releases.ubuntu.com/lucid/

If so, which download do I want?

And then, how to I install it onto the offline computer?

Thank you.
