1  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BFGMiner 5.4.2: GBT+Stratum, RPC, Mac/Linux/Win64, Antminer S1-S5, solo stratum on: June 03, 2017, 02:15:34 AM
I've recently retired the old Debian machine I used for mining with my ASICs.   I've now tasked a CentOS 7 machine in the same data center to be my miner.

BFGMiner seemed to compile OK, and it does mine OK... but it doesn't look right.

Instead of the normal BFGMiner screen I am familiar with... I'm only seeing this;

 [2017-06-03 11:24:29] Started bfgminer 5.4.2
[2017-06-03 11:24:29] Probing for an alive pool

scrolling up the terminal, and nothing else.  No other information is coming up.

2  Bitcoin / Mining support / BFGMiner and BFL ASICs... experiencing weirdness. on: May 13, 2017, 01:57:05 AM
Hi Everybody,

I've had three Butterfly Labs ASICs (Don't laugh!) churning away in a data centre for a few years now... UPS and generator backup power is free for me, so why not! :-)

I'm hosting BFGMiner (currently v5.4.2) on a Debian box and it's been working flawlessly... until this week!

I got an alert that my worker was down. I logged in and see this;

The ASICs are being detected... but it looks like they aren't hashing.   I went on site and hooked an ASIC up to my Win7 Laptop and the actual ASIC hardware is working fine.  The power supply for the ASICs is working fine too.  The Linux machine has been stable, but I rebooted just the same... same result.

Has anyone else seen this happening recently?

3  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer C1 Setup [HD] on: January 18, 2017, 03:39:17 AM
No, you link them by running two in series. Instead of going from the C1 to radiator, you go C1 to C1 to radiator.

Is series linking multiple C1s still the way to go?

I've got my hands on a couple of C1s to play with.   I know they are way past state-of-the-art these days, but the price was right and I've got access to some cheap electricity so I thought the time is ripe for adding to my meager mining setup.  I'm not doing it to make money... more for the fun of it I guess.

The guy who had them before me used one pump/reservoir then a Y adapter feeding coolant to both C1s, then two radiators, another Y and then back to the pump/reservoir.

Running them in series would certainly reduce the number of junctions in the coolant hoses which would make me sleep easier at night.  Smiley

I'm sad about the lack of communication.

I had around 2.5 BTC mined in the 50btc pool before the trouble started... and I really doubt I am ever going to see it.  Embarrassed

Ah haa! Thanks for the pointer.

Good thing my alarm bells went off then!

Looking on blockchain.info I still see the odd transaction heading to the bitcoin addresses on the web page. Some people are being duped.

Hi Everybody,

Has anyone here dealt with these people?

If yes, was your experience good/bad/indifferent?

I've been looking through the threads about the Block Erupter Blade ASIC boards and can't seem to find a definite answer.

Do they require fans on both sides of the ASIC board, are there ASICs on both sides?  Is there a heatsink on both sides?

Lunokhod

Jesus, whats with all the thread necros lately?

ASICs are located on one side of the board, heatsink is on the other side. May seem weird, but because of how the chip is packaged, it will dissipate more heat through the PCB and vias than through the plastic coating on the chip. Active cooling is mandatory, but only heatsink side.

Thanks for the info.  I thought that putting this question on the end of a related thread would have been OK.  My bad!  Next time I will consider start a new one.

Being a newbie can create other problems... instead of posting in the proper forum, questions get posted in here.

I've got some great questions I want to ask about hardware, but would probably not be suitable for the Newbies section.

These are valid posts from a REAL person, but I cannot use these questions to get to be a "qualified" user of this board by increasing my post count 'cause I want to pose these questions in the correct forum.

Catch 22...

OK thanks...   I'll still try and see what is going on, but good to know it's not affecting my mining performance.
11  Other / Beginners & Help / PCI-E x16 card running at x8 on: March 30, 2013, 03:47:53 AM
Hi Everybody,

After doing some investigating, I have noticed that my video card (Gigabyte HD6850) is running at 8x speed instead of 16x in my motherboards (Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3) PCI-E x16 slot.

Does this limit things when it comes to Bitcoin mining in practical terms?

I'm not sure why this is happening, is it caused by the motherboard or the video card?

Regards,

Lunokhod
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Two GPU's on: March 30, 2013, 12:24:53 AM
Not meaning to hijack... but hopefully this is relevant in a Two GPU thread.

I take it that multiple video cards in a mining rig do not need to be identical nor do they need to be linked via crossfire... is this assumption correct?

Hiya,

I've been following Bitcoin for a while now.  Not really doing anything serious, just interested in the technology behind the Bitcoin and the hardware needed to perform mining... mainly for fun.

At the moment I am using GUIMiner on my main office PC with an AMD HD6800 card... getting a very modest 205 Mhash/s and I'm about to press my wife's computer into action as well.
