can I buy one?
You can buy Mastercoins from these threads https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=287145.0 or from http://www.buymastercoin.com/

But if you would like to get some free Mastercoin follow the rules of this thread and you can get anywhere from 0.1-0.9 Mastercoin.

Thanks! Would like to have some mastercoins please!

Thanks for the heads up over the PM, LuckyBit.

Going to spend some time getting up to speed over this protocol

15omoH4d3huHkzgRn3edmdrgBBoyLH1c3s

According to the rules you should do something to promote Mastercoin to get them. You can for instance make a tweet, or put it in your signature. The better you understand the protocol and better you explain it the more Mastercoins you'll get in the giveaway.

I would like some master coins please. My address is 1LophieEaKWKtqGWoTDp5TDhB7rGjneHep

Please follow the rules of the giveaway thread. Promote Mastercoin in some fashion. The deeper your understanding of the protocol and greater the effort the more Mastercoin you'll receive.

My ability to help is extremely limited.  I don't even tweet.   Cheesy

You can put a link to Mastercoin in your signature with a brief description of what it is.

It's all set, testing is complete. Time for me to advertise the giveaway thread.
366  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: MasterCoin Buyer/Seller Thread on: October 24, 2013, 06:13:38 PM

JR and I discussed a plan where we create a giveaway thread to give away small amounts of Mastercoin. Something like 0.1 to 0.9 so that there are more stakeholders. It shouldn't affect the price too much for people who want large amounts but if someone just wants less than a whole Mastercoin they'll be able to get that.

I still have to talk to JR about it. Right now the script to send Mastercoins isn't working for me so until that gets working I can't do anything. Also JR has to organize it.

I'm a long term holder in Mastercoin. I only intended to sell 30 and not for a while which is why I set the price high enough that it shouldn't be sold until we have close to a working protocol.

If you want to trust an exe file, I have a version of MasterCoin Advisor compiled to exe linked here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=265488.msg2919863#msg2919863

Let me know when you've got sending MSC to yourself sorted out Smiley

I tried the exe and the script. The exe crashed after I entered in the information and hit enter. The script I compiled ran but crashed after I entered the information with this error:
Quote
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "MastercoinAdv.py", line 13, in <module>
    recipientBytes = base58_found.b58decode(recipientAddress, 25);
NameError: name 'base58_found' is not defined

I will try the exe and python script again and see if I can get it working.

The program is probably not very tolerant of anything which isn't exactly what it expects (extra whitespace, etc). I believe it is what most people are using though, so others here should be able to help you sort this out.

Thanks!

Edit: Sounds like it is working now. Sweet.

Wow that thread is fantastic, you're really good at marketing. I am watching and learning.

I've opened up the MSC giveaway thread again. Details here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=272577.0

Luckybit, do you need some test MSC to give away along with your MSC?

Please take a look at the rules I posted and let me know if they make sense to you. Thanks!

The exe seems to work, I'm testing it right now.

Those rules are cool with me.

Adjusted the size a bit.

Also tried playing around with the letters, but if you allign them diagonally it'll look like it says 'RS'.

Tilt the letters slightly to the right.

every computer program could be considered algebra, that doesnt magically make it elude legislation.

Every computer program is not Bitcoin - that's why Bitcoin is special. That's why Bitcoin is Bitcoin.

There are illegal numbers so you are correct, governments are stupid enough to attempt to regulate math. But just like with regulating file sharing it will fail and for the same reasons. Unlike sharing files we are talking about sharing money now. Nothing will stop people from sharing money. Even in an all out war people are still sharing money.

Bitcoin allows people to share money over the Internet while Colored Coin and Mastercoin built on top of Bitcoin allows for Bitcoin to take over the entire global economy and replace virtually every function.

I think Bitcoin may end up being money 2.0 and there is no way any government can stop that. People have killed and died over money and governments pay their troops with money. So how exactly are you going to stop money with laws? You can stop money by offering more money or better money than Bitcoin.

I don't think the US government or any government wants to do that though. They will just build on top of Mastercoin and Colored Coin for their own purposes when the time comes.

Putting the Blockchain at risk? Please elaborate.

essentially every bitcoin client will become part of a distributed unregulated security exchange, which might be considered illegal by regulators just about anywhere.  Now whether or not such interpretation would stand up in court, I have no idea, but Id rather not see them get the chance to try it.

If the king were to outlaw bread do you think it would stop peasants from eating bread during a famine?
The laws will be rendered unenforceable due to the particular condition of the economy.

When there is no viable alternative for people, it wont matter what the law says. Ultimately the law enforcement are supposed to protect and serve the community. The laws if they don't protect the community probably aren't going to be followed by many people. People still gamble for example even if you make that illegal, and copyright infringement is illegal but probably everyone you know does that.

Consider that the government of the US does decide to crack down on Bitcoin? The people who break the law and ignore the regulations would become millionaires. Those millionaires would be the people smart enough to leave America and live where there aren't any regulations on Bitcoin being enforced.

So if the US is stupid enough to crack down then people will start leaving the US and working overseas instead. Then they'd start businesses over there and pay taxes to some other country. That other country will use the tax money to spy on US interests. It would be smart if the US actually kept it's tax base in the US by either not enforcing certain regulation or changing the law.
370  Economy / Securities / Re: [CRYPTOSTOCKS] Labcoin Official Thread - Self-Moderated on: October 24, 2013, 02:42:23 PM
Puppet... till now no one feared the chinese government because of selling shares. btcgarden only closed because of the risks involved with chinese crowdfunding, as far as i know. And friedcat always checked out such potential legal risks to Asicminer. I mean it would be pretty stupid to risk all his income. So if you now start to generally question the legality then why not start at bitcoins? Its still a gray area and governments would have any right to forbid bitcoins. That happened with many regional currencies before often too.

So far i trust friedcat more than your legal advice in a anyway legal gray area.

Of course once colored coins get used, that may change, if these colored coins represent securities, that has the potential to threaten bitcoin

Agreed, if they use the blockchain to represent colored coins/securities, it will give them ammo to go after the entire Bitcoin protocol. Or if Ken creates an alt coin, then the exchange it's hosted on would be targeted.

These solutions are a step ahead right now, but only one step.

How would they go after an idea? Ban the source code? Also at that point no ban will stop it.

If Colored Coin or Mastercoin works then nothing stops either of them except if the protocol fails. Hundreds of trillions of dollars. The derivatives market is 180 trillion in the US alone. The US economy is only 10-12 trillion.

What this means is that Colored Coin and Master Coin are more valuable as a protocol than the entire US economy. Who is going to ban that during a recession?

Also if those protocols do happen then each coin Bitcoin will be worth around a million dollars potentially and it wont take very long to reach that. It might take 5-6 years and the block reward halving built into the protocol will push it up to a around a million dollars a coin.

This is all speculation assuming the protocols do work and most people are unsure if Colored Coin or Mastercoin can work. If you fear regulation and don't take risks you wont have any rewards.

The governments of the world will react how they react to innovation.
371  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin had it? on: October 24, 2013, 02:31:44 PM
I keep looking at the Litecoin price and it keeps going down. I know that recently Bitcoin are worth a lot so I assume the logic might be, if Bitcoin is doing well then why do we need Alt coins quite so much? But Litecoin was dropping before this recent price rise. So are people loosing interest in it?

What people need now is to add protocol layers on top of Bitcoin. The reason Litecoin is now becoming useless is because of Mastercoin and Colored Coin. If Mastercoin works then you can create any currency on top of Bitcoin as well as do a decentralized exchange similar to Forex, as well as futures, smart property and derivatives.

Future alt coins will either adopt similar functionality with Colored Coin or they'll be built on top of Bitcoin through Mastercoin. Litecoin is lagging behind in figuring out how to differentiate themselves from Bitcoin and they make that mistake at their own peril. I support Litecoin because I see advantages to having it but I would like to see some innovation.

The price is going high because a few people are hoarding coins
The price is high because the coins are valuable and people who have coins believe they are worth more than the prices offered.  Is that 'hoarding'?

There are some addresses that have 50,000 coins so certainly some people are hoarding. I don't blame them at all because I would do the same thing but the concern is about how they intend to sell it. If they dump 50,000 coins then the price will sink too much too fast and that isn't good for you if you're trying to speculate and make a buck. What you want is for enough people to have the coins and demand to be sufficient that one person dumping 50,000 coins wont completely crash the price for you.

You want an equllibrium point and we have not reached that yet because price discovery isn't yet based on progress on the development front but more based on people starting to hear rumors about Mastercoin and the clever idea it is. Obviously I think 1 MSC is worth 2 BTC but it's not going to be worth that before the protocol even works. Let us be honest and admit the it's still just an idea right now.

was just rapping with the guys at Cryptsy ~ apparently MSC will be listed there soon?  Cool

Are you asking or telling? Smiley

yes i'm talking to them about this whole thing, who goes there?  Grin

How would it even be possible to do that?

I got links~ been dealing with them for the past 6 months !  Cool *fwiw i'm big into copywrite and USPTO patient legal type stuff!

If somehow Mastercoins are sold through cryptsy thats going to be interesting. I guess BuyMastercoin is going to have some competition.

what no email no phone number the price just goes bigger everytime I look ~ what is the deal?  Grin

The price is going high because a few people are hoarding coins but that is to be expected because its hard to actually sell coins.

It's going to change soon though. There will be a giveaway thread.

Same error for me. I used it before few weeks ago,

Mind telling me how it works? How exactly do you work it? You can't send your Mastercoins to it so what does it do? Formulate a script or something?

I tried running the python script natively, ImportError: No module named base58_found.

I'll figure it out and then we can start the giveaway.

Max I already sent 16.5 MSC to Jereonn13 address, if everything was OK, send me 2.1 btc from the escrow address (keep 0.045 btc as a tip)
Thank you again!
PS: also please remove my ask offer from the orderbook for now.
@dacoinminster: that  http://mastercoin-explorer.com/advisors/new doesn't work from here Sad

How are you all sending Mastercoins? I suppose I could run the script but I have to install the base58 module first.

Luckybit, if you want to take a shot at this, you'll have to learn how to make MSC transactions, follow rules set out in advance, and clear payouts with me in advance before you make them.

You'll also have to promise to be nice to everyone, no matter how hard that is. You can't go around flaming people you disagree with like HammerFist does Smiley
I understand. I can be polite.
How do I make MSC transactions using Mastercoin advisor? I have the script and I'm reading it but haven't figured out what I need to do to use it to send a test transaction or any other kind of transaction.

380  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: MasterCoin Buyer/Seller Thread on: October 23, 2013, 06:07:00 PM
Like I said before, I have 30 MSC and I have some time this week to distribute it. I don't think I should necessarily run the campaign but I'd be willing to contribute to it. Do you want to run it? Or are you just trying to keep me from running it?
I just don't want you to give 30MSC to some moron who made a meme and then think that you can claim 33MSC back from the project.  But if you give 30 of your own MSC to a guy who tells you he is Santa Clause - that is totally fine by me.  Carry on by all means.

When did I ever say I would give out 30 MSC to any single person? That would defeat the whole point.
I said .1 to .9 for each person.

Stop trolling.
