1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: May 28, 2017, 01:38:03 AM
How do I claim my NEM stake?  The information on the website is for the old wallet.  I received my token but not sure where to use it to import my stake, or to import my private key which I can use to import my stake.
When you have the private key you have a chance. Otherwise, itīs over !

I own a stake in NEM.  It's not over.  100 years from now it won't be over.

3  Economy / Economics / Re: Using Bitcoin as collateral for real estate on: April 24, 2014, 02:12:14 PM
If you are talking about mortgages, the house is the collateral

But for loan applicants with borderline credit, a strong crypto currency holdings from years of mining might strengthen their chances to get approved.

I'm just thinking of tangible uses of not just Bitcoin but of small yet devoted miners over time.
4  Economy / Economics / Re: Using Bitcoin as collateral for real estate on: April 24, 2014, 02:09:50 PM
The price is not a big concern, as a collateral you can use 1/10 of its value if that is the largest retracement of exchange rate during the latest 4 years, actually given a standard deviation based model, you might be able to use 1/4 of its value as collateral

And if it can work as a collateral, it could also be bought with a loan, that will ignite a rally which could be magnitudes higher than those rallies we have seen so far

This is what I'm talking about right here...
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum, MaidSafe, NXT, anything else worth investing in, in 2014? on: April 24, 2014, 01:50:25 PM
You guys never heard of the BitShares ecosystem?

pre-alpha release of the website: http://bitshares.org

Yep, Invictus and Maidsafe have a lot of similar initiatives.
6  Economy / Economics / Re: Using Bitcoin as collateral for real estate on: April 22, 2014, 12:12:31 PM
I'm sure it will happen, but the price will have to be stable first.  And that will happen when bitcoin has billions of users, not 2 million with wild volatility.

Otherwise the bank would accept the collateral, the person would fall through, and the bank will find out that the bitcoins are only worth half of what they thought.

Yes, of course, any asset valuation is discounted because of market volatility or liquidity concerns.  But as you hinted, I expect the 'Bitcoin as collateral' story to be a good one in the near future for many banks and real estate firms.
7  Economy / Economics / Using Bitcoin as collateral for real estate on: April 22, 2014, 11:37:31 AM
Has there been any news or stories of Bitcoin being used as collateral for a real estate purchase?  I know it has been used to make the actual purchase but what about as collateral?

Given the nature of the block chain (ie. public ledger), it would be easy for a real estate entity to confirm a signee's Bitcoin ownership has not changed while still staying in possession/control of the signee.

I think the new US regulation will open up a new world of 'Bitcoin as collateral' and less so as a 'currency' per se.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Security analysis of PoW/PoS hybrids with low PoW reward on: April 01, 2014, 06:40:14 AM
That is YOUR reply I quoted.

You must have read the answer at one point, because YOU commented that your question was answered, but I will summarize it again here just to be perfectly clear.

  • Blackcoin use POS 0.3.0 protocol which has no known vulnerabilities at this time
  • The "attack" suggested is impossible because coins do not stake on age alone, therefore making deposits at small intervals in no way guarantees you will generate POS blocks at those intervals.  In fact splitting coins to generate these intervals will make the chance of staking at each interval even less

Right, it uses "POS 0.3.0 protocol which has no known vulnerabilities at this time" in the context of a PoS/PoW hybrid, right? It has never been tested in the context of pure PoS, right?

I will restate: If i said said anything further about it on the blackcoin thread, I would have been ran out of there and labeled as a FUDer.
Similar to how what I am saying now, not on the blackcoin thread, is drawing so much heat.

I'm not giving you heat, i'm only answering your question.. again.

Saying Sunny King's fix only applies to POS/POW hybrids is incorrect, it fixed the POS protocol. Period.

The timebomb attack is not feasible because coins do not stake on age alone, there are other factors.   Even if you could guarantee that all your coins ages were spaced at a minimum interval there is no guarantee they will all stake at their intervals. Also POS blocks have a target time interval, so coins that were eligible to stake too soon would not generate blocks any faster than the target interval, there is no way that one person could force their coins to be the ones to generate stake for many consecutive intervals.  This attack is pure nonsense.

But Sunny King fixed PoS in the context of PoS/PoW hybrid, not pure PoS. Right?

Since there have not been any other pure POS coins yes the fix was originally applied to a POS/POW hybrid.  Nevertheless the fix is for the POS protocol and did nothing to POW. The fix ensured that POS was a secure way to generate blocks to secure a blockchain.  If you know of any vulnerabilities in POS please make them known so they can be addressed.

I don't know the specific vulnerabilities, I'm not saying that there necessarily are any. My argument is purely from a logic standpoint. If the security of PoS was in any way dependent upon PoW in the PoS/PoW hybrid system, then just because the PoS security flaws were fixed in that context doesn't mean they will be fixed when PoS is standing alone, or that new security flaws wouldn't be introduced when PoS stands alone. So the question is, did Sunny build/fix PoS to be completely secure standing alone or was it in anyway dependent on PoW? I guess this is ultimately what I am trying to figure out.

Sunny built them to be dependent on each other. POW is a proven system. POW/POS is a proven system. POS is not and may be vulnerable to attack.

OP's point is that a POW/POS system with very small rewards creates a weak POW system that someone could exploit and it would essentially be the same as a standalone POS system which may be vulnerable.

You clearly did not understand the OP. That is not the OP's point at all.  The OP's point is that POW/POS hybrid is vulnerable to a double spend attack by a POS block negating/orphaing a POW chain with enough blocks to have confirmed transactions.

I expect you have never looked at the source code of a POW/POW hybrid, because it it very clear POS and POW are not dependent on each other in any way.  They are completely separate methods.  It is true that POS only has never been tried before, but the POS system is secure in itself and has no known vulnerabilities.   POW is a proven system with a known vulnerability called 51% attack which is why POS was added.  POS/POW may be vulnerable by the method explained in the OP.   POS alone, again has no known vulnerabilities besides a 51% attack which would require owning 51% of the coins which would mean you already basically control the money supply and would devalue your own coins.
looking at your posts and the OP
"double spend attack requires 1 PoS block and low hashing power."

So wouldn't this method of attack require that you control/know precisely when you are going to receive a PoS block, so that you can orphan your transactions that you confirmed on the PoW chain you control (otherwise somebody else will have a greater chance of getting the next PoS block, unless you control 51%)?
You made it sound earlier like it is not possible to control when a PoS block will be generated:
"The "attack" suggested is impossible because coins do not stake on age alone, therefore making deposits at small intervals in no way guarantees you will generate POS blocks at those intervals.  In fact splitting coins to generate these intervals will make the chance of staking at each interval even less"
So, are there ways to control/know the timing of PoS block generation even though coinage is not the sole determining factor?
If so, wouldn't that mean pure PoS is vulnerable too?

Attacker should wait for 1 PoS block and delay announcing this block.

PoS block is a stochastic process.  You say this like it's a given that it can be done...it's not.

Dear DEVs:
I see the blog say " some concrete examples of MADEsparq.org functionality and content to be released (kind of) soon.", what time to release the ANN? the white paper is too technical ,a few words to say clearly about MADE?

BTW:I Think CGB/MADE may be same to PTS 50%/AGS 50% convert to BTS is a good plan~

Yes, there will be a conversion plan.  It is not decided what yet.

Development progress is slow but steady.  I will keep the community informed when I have results/examples properly completed for show.

I have had a paperwallet submission and it'll be a nice addition to existing paperwallet services, like by FiniteByDesign.net.

I'm testing it out and so far all seems well.  My sincere thanks to x0rcist.

Let me know about the paper wallet.  I'll post a link to it on the website.  Also, I'd suggest making it open source and available on github so users can make their paper wallets offline (more secure).

I'm ecstatic to see some community involvement!!

yes ofcourse it willbe available on github!! lost some hours on the ssl as i just found out its not supported with the plan i have at cloudflare but we are moving in the right direction Smiley ps. i still have that wiki we discussed some months ago (if you still remember), idea for after i finished the paper wallet?

I remember the wiki.  I forwarded it to a couple supporters but no one was willing to take up the job.

So I think I'll offer a small bounty to get the contents of the wiki filled out.

Cheers.

Hi MercSuey,

Can you briefly explain, without giving too much away, how the MADEsparq project will impact the value of Crypto (I like this new short name for CGB)?  I'm a little fuzzy on this and I think others are as well.  Thanks in advance for any light you can shed.

Thanks for the support Jake! I am totally open to discussing MADEsparq with regards to this marketing campaign. I know that it has potential and if we can get enough exciting details then I think we can work it in. However, I believe that CGB easily stands on its own and unless we are showing material benefit to an investor, I feel that too much information might detract from the points that I have listed as CGB strengths. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of extras about CGB that make it appealing but I have tried to distill it all down to a small package which any investor will be hooked on reading through. The idea is to focus on driving the most critical points out to the public.

Yes, I know it's a bit hazy.  I'm going to address your inquiry with some concrete examples and videos on madesparq.org soon.

Hey Team. As promised here is my outline for what I believe is needed to take this coin to the next level (and then the next). I have carefully constructed the points for mass appeal but certainly welcome ANY criticism. Please take some time to chew on this and get some discussion going. I will be checking back often but must let you all know that I have to keep my own life in balance. Cheers!!!

Cryptogenic Bullion (CGB)

Open Source Community Development and Marketing Strategy

This document contains a collaborative framework for the community development and marketing strategy of the Cryptogenic Bullion cryptocurrency. It is intended to be updated by any member of the CGB community who has a new idea or believes they can refine an existing one. The document is open to the public because it serves as a document of logic and open debate. I believe that releasing the strategy itself might provide other deserving cryptos with some guidance to take their logical place in the ecosystem. This document contains the CGB strengths, misconceptions about CGB, viral marketing concepts, community development and highlighted communities.

This document will be posted (not yet) at http://www.reddit.com/r/CryptogenicBullion and https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=245086.new#new. Anyone who wishes to discuss any part or offer updates can reply to either post. I will try to keep the post up to date. Please understand that I am an independent community advocate like yourself. I am only a small piece of the bigger picture and each must take their own initiative in order for this campaign to succeed.

Cryptogenic Bullion Strengths

Proof of Stake Eco-Security: Cryptogenic Bullion is a second generation cryptocurrency employing an advanced hybrid of legacy Proof of Work mining and Proof of Stake minting to secure the blockchain. This multi-pronged approach makes the "51% attack" a thing of the past. Not only would an attacker have to control half of the CPU power on the CGB network, but they would also have to own half of all of the currency supply of CGB in order to attempt a "double-spend" attack. Although Proof of Stake can be used alone to protect the netowork, the legacy Proof of Work aspect of CGB remains as an additional security layer.

The power consumption of CGB will remain far lower than any other legacy Proof of Work cryptocurrency as most of the reward for securing the network is provided through Proof of Stake minting which can be completed quickly on a smart phone, instead of a supercomputer cluster.

Interest Bearing (1.5%): A major benefit of Proof of Stake minting is that you can pay yourself 1.5% interest on savings, without the need for a bank to take its cut. Compared to legacy Proof of Work systems which reward only those with mining equipment, the benefit is made directly to the people who maintain a savings of Cryptogenic Bullion. A Proof of Work mining incentive of 0.5% brings the yearly production of CGB to 2.0%; a rate modeled after the supply of gold.

Inflationary Stage Completed (rare): In order to distribute coins to the widest population base, cryptographic currencies rely on a mining protocol called Proof of Work. This puts new coins into the hands of those with mining equipment like a gaming PC, or a cutting edge server. It gives everyone a fair chance to adopt and spread the currency, but creates the volatility and downward price pressure seen in so many other cryptocurrencies. Cryptogenic Bullion is the only second generation cryptocurrency to have completed this inflationary stage due to its accelerated reward halving. Without this relentless dumping of new coins that almost all other cryptocurrrencies are now struggling against, Cryptogenic Bullion is ready to meet its market potential.

Active Developers and Community: The development team has proven itself to be publicly accountable to the CGB community and has built a reputation for dependability, transparency, and forward thinking. With this foundation, the CGB community is able to focus on extensive advertising and promotional efforts which have drawn in a diverse collection of individuals to the merits of Cryptogenic Bullion. With a social media focus we have been actively engaging many different markets through the use of, among other media, our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cryptogenic-Bullion/134177020124803), which has over 15,000 likes and CGB's twitter feed (https://twitter.com/CryptogenicBull) with a current following of over 400 individuals.

Misconceptions about Cryptogenic Bullion

Fast Mining/Inflation Stage: One common misconception about Cryptogenic Bullion is that its shorter mining/inflation stage has not given a wide enough range of individuals the chance to participate as early adopters. We must appreciate that this deployment method was chosen to avoid the long period of inflation which increases the volatility and stagnates most other cryptocurrencies in use today. The CGB community has been very active making every effort to get the word out about CGB and make it available on multiple exchanges. What is not realized is that CGB is still in the early adoption phase but instead of mining coins, the low price is what now enables early adopters to participate in this opportunity. CGB is only just now beginning to realize its potential to the discerning investor.

Community Development

In addition to helping to spread the word, there are other tasks which need to be undertaken in order to support the growth of our community. Any suggestions about areas of development are welcome.

Viral Marketing Concepts

Got Crypto?: I believe that this phrase has the power to turn Cryptogenic Bullion's slightly awkward name into an advantage. Not only is it a professional name appealing to the investment community, but it can be called 'Crypto' for short. No other coin can logically take this title with more credit than Cryptogenic Bullion.

CGB Vault: This viral concept involves locating high quality vault images and replacing the circular entrance with a translucent CGB logo. This can then include a slogan and or CGB Strengths.

Highlighted Communities

It's important to remember that every community we wish to interact with has its own unique perspective and strategies for contact. We know that any community is made up of members who belong to many other groups and communities; there is a lot of overlap. Our message needs to be as clear as possible and some of the best insights will come from these people. The purpose of this section is to enable these and all other CGB supporters to learn about and understand the most effective ways to communicate with the highlighted community. As this document is updated we should try to build a full picture of each community including:

  • Where they can be found
  • General level of understanding
  • Interaction Notes
  • Opportunities
  • Common Misconceptions

5a. TBD. All suggestions are welcome. This will be my next focus.

This is great!

Let me know about the paper wallet.  I'll post a link to it on the website.  Also, I'd suggest making it open source and available on github so users can make their paper wallets offline (more secure).

I'm ecstatic to see some community involvement!!
