or better yet, just don't pirate material. go to safe streaming sites if you want to keep malware away from your device.

Nothing beats free however hehehe. There are also no safe streaming sites except the paid sites similar to Netflix.

In any case, you might have missed what bittorrent mainly is. It is a peer to peer file sharing network for anything. Its use for good must be encouraged.

yep, that's true - nothing beats free  Grin   used their services back when the original tpb site was still up and the government wasn't making a move at them yet. so, yes, my device back then was a virus and malware haven haha!

also agree that there are no safe free streaming sites so i pay netflix  Smiley  the downside is that most shows there are ancient save for a few tv series.

anyway, used bittorent and understand what it does. they've partnered with tron and recently announced expanding their ecosystem to include blockchain technology. so they'll get incorporated to cryptospace and introduce the token BTT which will be a tron trc-10 token. new bittorrent and utorrent software will integrate wallets so even non-cryptocurrency users will have wallets right away. does this mean that a user gets incentives for downloading and seeding files - including malware?

have you read their whitepaper? i haven't so i still don't get how the client, swarms, trackers, and seeding will play a role in bittorrent's cryptocurrency protocol. it should be interesting to find out how their protocol will fare in the crypto-economy including how they'll address malware infections if that's possible or if there will be any...

When we talk about the damage, lets put things in perspective.
We are in bear market and prices are bottoming, so the real damage is actually much much bigger.

cryptopia has faced other hacks before, am i right? but never of this magnitude?

so they were able to hurdle problems that arose from previous hacks like maybe pay off those who legitimately lost their cryptocurrencies to a hack? wonder how they'll deal with this latest headache...

i started with them sometime early 2016 and didn't have problems other than delayed transactions at times and not so prompt customer service responses (also sometimes). and as far as i know, they've always gone back online after a reported hack/breach which was probably just small-scale coz they got back quick...

but this one is different so, given that this experience will hurt their reputation if they turn back online, i hope they invest in or find a way to quickly identify suspicious activities within their site in the future. i still think they're a better choice than other medium-level exchanges. i agree with you when you mentioned that their ui was easy to use. that's one of the reasons why i like using their exchange.
83  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptopia Cryptocurrency Platform Services and Development on: January 15, 2019, 04:47:49 AM
if they release some sort of crisis management statement, users will panic and ask what emergency ( (  Huh catastrophe ) is requiring their full attention (for two days now) and prevent access to their site. if they don't issue any statement, users will stay anxious and still panic over their silence and jump to conclusions. so... we don't get any announcements - good pr is not their thing... sadly.

unscheduled maintenance. may be a hacking incident and doing an audit, or auditing for etc double spends and other related issues, or preparing for the eth constantinople hard fork...
86  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin holders will betray bitcoin one day on: January 07, 2019, 04:38:32 AM
based on your rhetoric, i think that'll happen only in a state of panic when everything - like ALL financial markets will crumble - or like in a doomsday type of scenario. that's fear of the unknown and you're scaring yourself.

in a regular economy, i think bitcoin works just the same way as fiat works. buyers will hold while some will sell. you won't hold it forever although you could but not everyone will do that. some will naturally sell some at one point because it's meant to be used!

it's natural for currency to flow through the economy; it's used to purchase goods and services and bitcoin and other crypto too should flow through the crypto-economy via the buying and selling of goods and services. it's a natural cycle. so your doomsday scenario could happen but only when all markets collapse due to a disaster of biblical proportions
87  Economy / Speculation / Re: The truth about the 20k bitcoin last year on: January 07, 2019, 03:49:28 AM
the only truth is that few people became millionaires (because they had inside info considering price movement) and the rest of us (99,99% of crypto enthusiasts) are left weeping and hoping for price to jump up. However it's a period of accumulation and we will have to wait for years before new ATH.
That only means bitcoin really creates money and admit it or now, I know you also earn money through bitcoin. There is so much negativity on the OP, and if you think bitcoin is useless you are free to leave the market and a have a good run with other things. For me, bitcoin makes our financial system more meaningful, it created money to those hodlers and for sure this year we will go into the higher price.

feb 5 marks the beginning of the year of the earth pig and some are probably expecting a quick bitcoin price surge... hopefully we'll all have a happy fat earth pig - and trading-wise, hodling-wise, a smarter one to get through all of 2019 too.

if the surge doesn't happen, perhaps those who can't help but wallow in negativity about crypto can move on to other things that'll change their defeatist disposition into a healing one - a positive one. it's too stressful to maintain a cynical temperament coz it just saps out your strength....

anyway, the cryptoverse has developed an attractive atmosphere that even those who are critical of it are drawn to its ecosystem - intrigued by it. so the best course of action is to learn more about it than trash it.
88  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Question] What will happened to Bitcoin if there's no miner? on: January 02, 2019, 01:52:07 PM
assuming that there are NO MINERS - Transactions wont get confirmed and the blockchain will stay inactive until such time someone’s gpu with the bitcoin blockchain starts hashing again and the cycle continues from where it left off.
89  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: All bankers hate BTC, am I right? on: January 02, 2019, 01:38:41 PM
I dont think all bankers hate bitcoin. I know of some bankers exploring bitcoin and other alts which goes to show that they are open to crypto use. Some, however, have an aversion to bitcoin apparently due to its extreme volatilty

92  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does it mean to buy on the Dip? on: December 21, 2018, 05:06:11 AM
buy the dip... means the opposite of buy at the tip

    /\
   /  \
_/     \_/

in essence:
BUY LOW, SELL HIGH
not
BUY HIGH, SELL LOW

i like this - and agree that it's a simple explanation for your query. but in a situation when you think that you bought the dip and the price drops lower that you incidentally bought part of the tip and it goes like that for days... or weeks... haha, you're in for a test of confidence and tolerance.

but if you're patient enough to wait until price moves higher than your buy price - let's say you bought when price hit 3100 usd something and the present price is 4,000 usd something like now, it's okay to sell. you've gained already. enjoy your gains! or get in again and play. the speculation game fuels our greed and teaches us to manage it as well, so happy trading!  Wink

this culture only creates a bigger and bigger volatility, nothing else, no new market support and no new social support will enter that.

i agree with you, but what i said was just in response to the poster's question.

the culture will only change when the market becomes mature. but since bitcoin was introduced, the very few people that acquired a deeper understanding of bitcoin and the blockchain's philosophy and intentions are the ones that matured and are waiting for the periphery to catch up. incidentally, those whose level of bitcoin maturity are still below the intermediate levels are many and are mainly focused on bitcoin's speculative nature....

so it'll be that way maybe for as long as it's just perceived as a speculative tool.

94  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] JSEcoin on: November 27, 2018, 11:45:06 PM
@vivaldi we done another update this morning which should help.

@care2yak nothing is ever 100% secure but we take security very seriously have a good track record so far. The article is in reference to an attack on a piece of software distributed via npm. It's hard to prevent this kind of attack but github actually does a really good job of notifying project owners about problems with dependent repositories. Anything fintech is going to be a constant target for hackers and we need to keep this in mind and practice good security policies as much as possible.

New support chatbot is available if anyone would like to ask some questions to help train him up: https://jsecoin.com/meet-block-our-new-chatbot/

awesome, thank you for clearing that out. it's a lesson then for devs to understand coding and not just pull some code from repositories without knowing what it actually does. thanks again. cheers.

i suppose not so many exodus users know about this thread... it's just a thought. anyway wanted to ask, what language is exodus coded in? i'm sorry, i'm not a technical person so please excuse the way i structure this.

i just asked because i just read in one of the topics here that there's a hacker using javascript to steal from wallets - https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/11/26/npm_repo_bitcoin_stealer/ - so thought about exodus. how safe is it? thanks.

@JSEcoin, there's a hacker using javascript to steal from wallets - https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/11/26/npm_repo_bitcoin_stealer/

how secure is the jse wallet?

now i'm wondering which wallets with major assets are using javascript and how we can protect ourselves.
98  Economy / Speculation / Re: What we can do now other than saying HODL? on: November 27, 2018, 06:14:26 AM
Since the last week the price of bitcoin and all the crypto currencies were falling too much,me and lot of other normal small scale investor affected very large by this price fall. Many people saying that this current price fall is due to BCH hashrate war so what we can do now to minimize our losses other than saying the words HODLing as a community?

invest in your skills, i suppose... you yourself, have the capacity to create wealth.
99  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: With all honesty, who still wants bitcoin to die? on: November 27, 2018, 05:22:13 AM
i also want bitcoin to die because im so freakin tired of this drama , im tired of this roller coaster , im tired of waiting for nothing  .

But to be honest , i also need cash because i dont have a stable job right not .  thats the reason that i cannot permanently quit on hodling and obtaining a bitcoin .

At the end of the day , im still praying that the price can still recover before we end this current year   even if the chances are verry slim because i still hear alot of bad news every single day .

you need to sort your priorities and not wait until it's too late. not to scare you or anything but you have to understand that bitcoin is highly speculative and price can soar and tank to near zero (exaggeration) and give you an emotional breakdown if you're relying on it alone. with markets like bitcoin, you need to detach your emotions and be ready for the worst - like most do when they enter forex. it's still a gamble to invest only the amount you're prepared to lose if worse comes to worst.

Pretty much all banks and governments will want BTC progress to stop, I think we are all aware of that and there is nothing new in this. Of curse, you can add to those the names mentioned above by other users. But I really don't think that the fall of BTC is caused by people or entity that wants BTC to vanish, we should also put big whales and big entity that are interested in Crypto space in the equation they have the best interest to make the pirce fall, they are now pretty much can buy all big alts with cheap dirt, and who knows the plan might even to bring the market more down.

yes, although Christine Lagarde, International Monetary Fund managing director, recognizes and acknowledged the significance of cryptocurrencies, she does not endorse bitcoin. rather, she suggests "government-backed tokens" or "central bank issued digital currencies" (https://cointelegraph.com/news/central-bank-digital-currencies-could-have-legitimate-role-says-imfs-lagarde) so it may be regulated.

i'm not totally against regulation and we need that to a certain extent but not to the point that it's suffocating the life out of you - like the way our fiat is handled.  governments and digital currencies plus regulation? that can still breed corruption.

so whoever wants bitcoin dead, i suppose, won't succeed because there are still many who hate a system that holds your money hostage, kills its purchasing power, and takes chunks out of it for the benefit of the privileged few.

Before this plunge, a lot of people spreading FUD about bitcoin and how they want bitcoin to die and how obsolete bitcoin is. People saying  that this alt or that alt will replace bitcoin and that bitcoin is no longer King of crypto. Now, looking at CMC, as bitcoin values going down so are ALL altcoins. No shitcoins...I mean altcoins able to get through what's happening in the market not even BCH, XRP, XLM or any other alts able to get pass through the bear market. This is just a proof that all alts value depends on bitcoin value and  the influence of bitcoin to the whole crypto market. I'm very sure before bitcoin value turn to zero all alts turns to dust just like when Thanus snap his fingers and dusting happened.

So tell me, with all honesty, do you still wants bitcoin to die?

honestly, I want bitcoin to stay alive and develop because the benefits of bitcoin are so extraordinary. My experience with bitcoin is that bitcoin provides changes in my economic factors that are increasingly being met. from bitcoin I can buy valuables.
Calm down bitcoin will not die in the near future. bitcoin has just started its expansion, not only because the weakened price makes you think negatively that bitcoin is will die ? actually what worsens the condition is speculation and negative opinions from investors themselves so that prices continue to decline, just believe in bitcoin, prices will definitely return to normal and even higher

yup, totally agree.
100  Other / Off-topic / Re: If BTC is not the best way to save money, What you think is the best ? on: November 27, 2018, 04:38:25 AM
A bit astounded that the question of if BTC is a good way to save money... for our kids, no less, would even be asked. I think the obvious answer is no, although if you want to put a little bit in it for long-term speculation, I guess that would be alright.

Ok, non-fiat "alternatives" to saving aside from Bitcoin. Actually, it is a good point to leave out fiat, because although you can set fiat money aside and save it (and probably should to some degree), if you're looking at the long-term, inflation is probably going to eat away at your savings. Probably one of the best alternatives would be gold and silver, stashed/hidden away in a safe place. Reason being is that they tend to retain their value and are relatively stable... even gaining value in hard or uncertain economic times, plus some have said that their prices are being artificially suppressed. Other metals may also be good, but gold and silver probably the top two metals. You can get bullion rounds, coins, and bars in larger or smaller sizes, and can have them shipped to you (with insurance, probably best option) or have them stored in a third party vault... if you want to.

The next best thing that's affordable for most (again, non-fiat), is likely stocks with dividends or ones with an expected long-term growth. And more, but that's a whole different world in of itself, with lots of different options available.

If you can afford it, and are willing to learn the know-how and put in the time, things like real-estate, big time investments like oil wells, water, food, etc, can be good (but can also hurt more if you do it wrong. If done right, use the profits as you will. Starting a business also good, and also bigger potential for failure, but the potential for long-term income is a risk worth taking for many. Those are really the best options, but only for those who are really ready to get into it, learn, make mistakes, etc. Metals and stocks for short to long-term, entrepreneurship, real-estate, and larger investments for long-term. If you'd like to get into the latter, might I suggest listening to guys like Robert Kiyosaki, or Josh Tolley.

Hope that helps,
The DinarDirham team.

you're right about inflation's effect on savings and agree about gold and silver. add platinum to your list as it holds equal to or a little more value than gold.
