please stop paying attention to rizzlarolla
he's just a troll, a bitcoin fanboy trying to bother with endless questions.
He will never stop while receiving answers
He's on a thread called "answer de question above with a new question" https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=55701.msg13467853#msg13467853

And please answer this technical question posted by me here:

why was blake chosen instead of any of the other sha3 finalists? What does it have that is better for decred than skein or keccak, for example?

It was asked by the dev who created the first optimized miner for X11, on brazilian facebook decred group that already has 200 participants for now, really interested in investing in that currency.

He wondered if was some technical reason for the choice of blake256 instead the sha3 winner which is keccak.
There are in decred technical brief the advantages in relation to SHA2, but not in relation to sha3.

Here's the original question in portuguese: https://www.facebook.com/groups/667062416769204/permalink/667072613434851/?comment_id=667131273428985&reply_comment_id=667136583428454&comment_tracking=%7B"tn"%3A"R9"%7D

Thanks

I appreciate this. I'm going to make a note and get a detailed answer for you. There are obviously some relatively intense pressures on getting this ready, so if I can't get you an adequate answer soon, I will get you one later, and share it here so everyone can see it. I apologise for missing this too, it can get a bit difficult to spot every question. Thanks for bringing it to light! There is also work being done on formulating an FAQ-type document, and this should be addressed alongside that as well.

...this is not forcast to actually happen any time soon, using decreds own numbers.

You are asking for things that nobody can answer for you. If Decred holds no value for anyone, then of course no development can happen. Who would want to develop something that nobody cares about? I haven't seen you go nuts about btcsuite being funded without any income, and that's survived, nay, flourished over the years to a point where it's used at the core of many organisations today. Even Ethereum based its geth implementation on btcd. My point is that you cannot get upset about numbers nobody can answer - anyone who tries to answer them for you is a false prophet because no one can know the future. Decred will adapt to what's required for it to deliver and reach its goals. What other option is there? As we speak people are getting stuck into it and working on it. You just put one foot in front of the other and work - that's what will be done in good and tough times.

tentative date? I was supposing this project was developed since 2013 and announce was made when everything already tested on testnet? Some major problems occours?

Theoretical development started in 2013. Code was written in April, 2014, so that marks the date of the beginning of the practical implementation of the work. Tentative in this context does not mean 2-3 months of delay. As you know, software development is a complex process and requires a lot of testing and examination. There was a post about it here. The delay happened because of the overwhelming interest and the fact that every participant's application receives individual attention.

Launch confirmed for January 18? Time?

Just adding on to the reply above me, Jan 18th signifies the close of airdrop sign up. Plus there will be testnet and miner binaries released alongside miner specifications one week prior to the actual launch date of mainnet.

Yeah ok, thanks.

I'll take that to specifically include _ingsoc also.
(and decred multi-author, obviously)

No, I haven't been involved with NeuCoin. Yes, Decred currently has multiple developers that contribute to its codebase and the project itself hopes to grow into a "hacker" collective of sorts in the future. A collective like that would mean anyone interested in development can step forward and be part of that ecosystem. Nobody will be excluded from the development process if they are competent - it is multi-stakeholder. Decred's primary goal is to create that ecosystem and everyone will be working hard to try and make that happen once the code is public and open-source.

I like idea of this coin, and I want to participate in  airdrop, but I do not have url.
How I join in airdrop?

You can submit your Bitcointalk profile if you'd like.

But really you will all be working on the cheap for c0, most likely. imo.

There has been no information about compensation for devs that will form part of the proposed ecosystem. So I don't know where you get that from. This begs the question though, and it's a serious one, what's the alternative for a new dev in the future? Work on Bitcoin and get paid nothing? Or work in a system where you get compensated for innovation and contributions that feed back into Bitcoin as well? I know that's biased, but it's a legitimate proposal that's being formed.

The questions were just for positive engagement, on another note I have received my airdrop so cheers Decred team!

I would answer if I could, but I have no experience with Windows. Unfortunately, all the devs who tested the process on Windows are asleep. Glad it worked out though! There'll be detailed instructions at every step for all major operating systems, so hopefully there won't be any bumps.

One question: while there are so many tools to create bitcoin-type addresses on the client side of a browser, why do we need to download an address generator?

The belief is that doing something this sensitive in a browser is irresponsible and insecure on the project's part - it would be endangering users. Whilst no system is perfect, asking you to explicitly write down a seed and store it somewhere safe is the closest we can get to holding up the interests of users' security when interacting with a broad userbase - given that it will be used to generate your wallet in the future. This is not to belittle other approaches taken, the belief is just that things in a browser should never be assumed to be secure and it's encouraged that people move sensitive things out of it if at all possible. It's the easiest balance the project could strike, given that they're binaries, between user-friendliness and security (source code is provided too for the security conscious).

Great to see people are starting to receive invitations and generating their addresses! The e-mails will keep flowing. Make sure you check your spam folder if you haven't whitelisted decred.org. There is also a dedicated support thread that just opened to help guide others through the process. Decred has an international community, so if you notice anything in the language-specific threads about getting help with the process, please help others where you can. You can also post here and people will help you if you have trouble.

I can easily understand you, @Blizzy, as this btcTalk forum is the home of the trolls (retarded kids). The worst place on the Internet, actually... I hardly ever feel like posting here... only if there's a really good reason.

I hope Decred succeeds and the community will have another forum, far away from this btcTalk.

I think we've all felt like this at one point or another. You can sign up at the Decred forum if that looks more appealing. The key is to remember if there's constructive discourse happening somewhere, it will be addressed and included, no matter where it occurs.
173  Local / Alt-Currencies (Italiano) / Re: Gli sviluppatori del Bitcoin lanceranno DECRED tra meno di 1 mese on: January 05, 2016, 06:26:38 AM
we are miners. Our contribute to decred can come by poiting our GPUs to decred network.

Noi siamo dei miner. Il nostro contributo principale allo sviluppo della rete decred può venire dal puntare le nostre GPU verso il network decred.

Ah, no problem! Decred would be happy to have you. The backbone of cryptocurrency. Smiley There should be binaries for miners released in the coming weeks to test and get comfortable with before the code is made public. We'll be working with everyone to help set up their environments and get ready.

I just got introduced in Bitcoin, can new members join this campaign?

Of course you can! Decred is about including people who care about contribution and want to participate in that process. You can sign up for the airdrop on the main website. Or, if you don't have an online presence, you can contact me on the forum, but be sure to give a little backstory and what your proposed contributions are to the project, so that it's possible to pinpoint your interest. My personal goal is to find groups to connect everyone to, so that clear areas of contribution emerge in the community.

Hey guys, apologies for posting in English, but if any of you guys are interested in an "Italiano (Italian)" section on the Decred forum, I would love to do that for you. Could be a place for users to connect locally if they're interested. Please let me know and I will open it. You can also PM me on there if you have difficulty with airdrop sign up (assuming you're interested!).
176  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts about Decred on: January 03, 2016, 07:21:57 AM
I note the website asserts: “Project bound by the Decred Constitution”. No it isn't, it's an open source peer-to-peer networked cryptocurrency and people are free to behave as they see fit. The inherent egality of peers and the lack of identity defeat any attempts at coercion, no matter how well-intentioned or otherwise. It seems a bit of a profound misunderstanding to attempt to impose a centralised constitution on a user group that is constrained by the limitations of the cryptographic protocols to be an anarcho-collectivist system (one which envisions the means of production being owned collectively and controlled and managed by the producers themselves).

I found this super interesting, so I wanted to single it out while I read the rest of your information. You're being critical, but you're engaging the issues and I respect that as an individual. I agree that you cannot regulate users' behaviour, nor should you want to, however, I think it's possible and necessary to regulate the behaviour of those charged with the stewardship of the project (the people that act as custodians). A project constitution acts as this check on the behaviour of those who work on the project.

Imagine this scenario: You have a system open to anyone where it doesn't matter who was there first. Your value in that community is derived from the contributions you make (i.e., the work you do, or the issues you engage with the view to explore new solutions). Such behaviour is the closest thing to derive "status" in a meritocratic system like that. Status is then regulated by a constitution, so that behaviour by those who rise up in the community stay within a framework so that those who get involved know what to expect from the project, and can get an indication of what behaviour will look like from custodians in the future. If you build into that framework inclusivity, anyone can enter that system and progress in it.

The purpose of a constitution is therefore not to regulate the behaviour of users, but the behaviour of those users who contribute at a level that affords them greater responsibility in that system. Every user can then judge for themselves the behaviour of the latter custodian users within the context of a framework and decide whether the two are congruent.

After reading the press release about Decred(link below)I was surprised to know that the core developers is trying to introduce yet another coin to the bitcoin ecosystem. Why has it become so hard to carry on with the satoshi's bitcoin? What is the catch here or Am I missing something?

http://www.coindesk.com/press-releases/meet-decred-digital-currency-bitcoin-developers/
https://www.decred.org/

Hey there rslsrkr, I'm part of the Decred community and wanted to throw in my two cents. Decred is by a number of the btcsuite developers. It was borne out of experiences contributing to the Bitcoin development ecosystem since early 2013. You can read some backstory about where it all started here. It is not about "yet another coin" - it's about exploration of technology and governance in ways that cannot be explored in the current Bitcoin development system. Here is makes the project different:

  • Development capacity: A complete group of Bitcoin developers who funded themselves and didn't ask a cent from the community - the software is already written and in testing
  • Inclusivity: An airdrop is open for sign up by anyone interested in a progressive and contributory community, whereby they receive coins unconditionally in an effort to distribute the network far and wide from day 1
  • Sustainable funding: A development subsidy is baked into the consensus rules so that any party can enter the development ecosystem in the future and be paid for deliverables to develop Decred
  • Open governance: PoW is kept in check by PoS, and issues are voted on in the blockchain so that power stays with the users' to direct development (not outside parties)
  • Symbiotic with Bitcoin: Improvements in Decred benefit Bitcoin (à la btcsuite), and vice versa (Bitcoin codebase gets tested and improved)

There are more points to Decred, and I won't spam your thread. You can have a look for yourself here on Bitcointalk if you want. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

The catch?  An opportunity to profit from gullible 'investors'.

There are no investors. In fact, no developer got any coins for free. They had to purchase them through Bitcoin and/or work. The community, however, gets the equivalent for free - and that is still open and available to anyone, you just have to fill in the airdrop form on https://decred.org. The risk is carried by the developers and they are the only ones who lose money if Decred fails. I don't know of any other project that has done this (post Bitcoin).

do you think this is utilitycoin?
utilitycoin failed and they use the stuff for this?

I believe he was referring to and questioning the utility of Decred in the sense that it's useful or beneficial for something. So he was thinking about ways to use Decred.

I have Nvidia gtx 970 , gpu miner for Nvidia is released ? .

No miner released yet. The miner is a fork of an older version of cgminer with a rewritten kernel. It's been built for both AMD and NVIDIA cards, but it's likely that an optimized miner for NVIDIA cards will take a little finesse and a fork of ccminer.
180  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DCR] Decred - Hybrid PoW/PoS | btcsuite Devs | Tons of New Features | Go on: December 30, 2015, 11:08:15 AM
Those are very valid issues he brought up and im very interested in knowing what the response will be and/if any steps will be taken to lessen the fears of holding such a big % of the overall coins. I believe we all have seen what can happen (not saying that it will).

This looks like a very interesting project overall, lets see where it takes us.

I agree they are valid points and will certainly need further interrogation to reach a solution. I want to add this though, and I know this is very anecdotal, but I've been interacting with the community directly every day. The devs are focused almost exclusively on the code at this stage - they have been popping in and out of here and are present in IRC, but they are not very active in communication yet. So the task of helping people in the community has fallen on me. My daily schedule goes like this every day now: (1) Wake up to 100+ PMs on the Decred forum, (2) 50+ e-mails, (3) and any number of posts on all the different outlets. I've made the commitment to give each of those contacts individual attention.

I have a pretty good pulse on who's who and the people interested in Decred now. And what I'm seeing is this: There are a significant number of people of high technical competence interested in the project - developers. This is incredibly promising for the project because if funding does indeed become a sustainable component of the overall system, there is going to be a very solid foundation for development in real terms. The btcsuite group with c0 are very competent guys and gals, but they're just one stakeholder in this system - we can't forget that. A Decred future can very well see a system with multiple development stakeholders and sustainable funding is going to secure that future. The overall point I am trying to make is that this isn't being approached from the perspective of looking after one or two developers for a year or two. There is a longer term goal here, and we should all take that into consideration when interrogating the issues.

I put that forward as my own experience with Decred thus far, with a look to the future.
