81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Where can I trade BAT ? on: July 07, 2017, 03:17:16 AM
I've been checking out BAT for a while and using the Brave browser.  It seems pretty innovative.  I'm about to trade 0.01 BTC for BAT.

Thanks for posting and the answers. I went to liqui.io/ because they offer BTC to BAT. Bittrex appeared to only offer ETH to BAT, which seemed like an extra 0.02% in fees.

EDIT: If you want to use BAT within the Brave Browser, which is the entire point of BAT, you need to give them a credit card or Bitcoin. They DO NOT accept BAT for payment.

I'm thinking about moving to Denver.

That makes two of us.

You get to buy cheap coffees on-chain, but at what price?

Taking down the entire banking industry.  That's the cost.

If we were getting paid for running full nodes, people would spam the network with thousands of fake nodes. Only a master node system would solve this issue, ...

DASH has had my interest for this reason.  My concern has been the honeypots they create.  You can find a list of online MasterNodes here: http://178.254.23.111/~pub/Dash/Dash_Info.html
There is one $180,000 in Panamá waiting for someone to get their paws on, unless it's highly secure and that takes us back to the centralized model.  I'm sure one could find a way in short time if on a RasPi.  Spending significant time in la Cuidad de Panamá ... I'm pretty sure it's a bank right off Balboa.

Here is my onion:
  • It's time to stop the infighting
  • We need to focus on merchant adoption
85  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Adode does not accept Bitcoin payments on: July 04, 2017, 07:02:00 PM
Here's the thing that I've said about companies, they're not going to change unless people just aren't going to be buying their services.
Man, that's so difficult because you're right.  I want their product really bad. I've used it 14 years and it's a part of my portfolio.

They're only going to change if they stand to lose money by not changing ...

Their response was "it's only $500".  So, maybe there is a $50,000 company who could offer a BTC payment to Adobe?

or they stand to get a ton of money with changing.
Lower fees and no charge backs increase their profits.  They could also reduce their data insurance premiums ... if exclusively used "internet money."

Think about it, you're probably going to be using Adobes services with or without the Bitcoin payments, all you're going to do is probably just go ahead and use a credit card, debit card, or any other traditional source of money.
I'd load up my BitPay card and pay that way because I'm not about to exploit a hacked version. I believe in the company and want to pay.  I just don't think they should have my private key.

They're not going to change even with a petition, only if we all stand together and don't buy Adobe protects, and even at that they may not even notice us.
I agree on the petitions.  I set up an order, get to the "checkout" page and call confused asking why an "Internet company does not accept Internet money." I ask them if they want my money because I want to give it to them, I just don't want to give them my credit card info because it gets stolen.  I try to be nice and direct them to BitPay or exploring an integrated API.

I appreciate the comments.  I really think we, as a community, should focus on the tech/internet companies to accept BTC.
Some that come to mind include:
  • Sony PSN
  • VistaPrint

Does anybody else have ideas of companies that should accept BTC? Any strategic thoughts on the subject?

86  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Adode does not accept Bitcoin payments on: July 04, 2017, 01:57:16 AM
The bitcoin community is a little bit everywhere, It could cost a lot to call international phone numbers. It would be better If someone could create a petition on change.org and post it here so people sign, It's probably the easiest way.

Good point.  Thanks!

Here is all of their contact information, globally:
https://www.adobe.com/about-adobe/contact/offices.html

Getting a company like this on board with BTC not only makes for a convenient way to pay for software, but makes the BTC network more secure by increasing its footprint.

EDIT: One of my talking points was that it would make it easier for them to accept global payments without the need to worry about international wire transfers, etc.
87  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Where should i invest 45 BTC risk free on: July 03, 2017, 11:41:19 PM
i have been holding btc in paper wallet since then and already my stash in usd is 6 times.

...  [I would like] ways to invest my bitcoin at zero risk to earn some profit ...

Put them on a Trezor.io or keep them in paper.

Make sure you have a 12 to 24 word phrase memorized and stored securely should happen something to you.

Hold until 2028. There are not and will not be enough Bitcoin for every millionaire to have one entire BTC.  You've got many.  Good on you!

If you must spend ... Adam Meister has a great YouTube channel about the "21 Bitcoin Club" as a "guaranteed road to elitism".   It's good stuff.
88  Economy / Service Discussion / Adode does not accept Bitcoin payments on: July 03, 2017, 04:52:18 PM
I have recently unbanked myself and Adobe does not accept BTC.  I can use my BitPay card, but that's just ridiculous.  I offered them $600 in Bitcoin for a year and they said, "Bitcoin is not money. Let me explain to you about money.  Can I use money from Russia in the United States."  I told him, "yes, if it's in Bitcoin."

They don't accept Bitcoin.  It would be helpful if they did.

If anybody wants to advocate for Adobe to accept Bitcoin, which I think we should really focus on getting as many big companies as possible to accept it with S.1271, here is there phone number.  Simply ask them how to make a payment with Bitcoin and that you would like to pay:

Read the 2nd post Smiley

Cool.

There is no merged mining - no alt coins attached to the pool in any way.
This has the advantage of only having to depend on the uᴉoɔʇᴉq blockchain and bitcoind without having other old/unsupported or otherwise, blockchain code running on the pool.

Like most things BTC, now I have a whole new set of questions to google around - such as uᴉoɔʇᴉq blockchain and bitcoind.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. "uᴉoɔʇᴉq" is simply bitcoin upside down ...

This is one of the many reasons that everyone on here knows that Craig is a fraud ...

I am trying to get a YouTube body language expert to analyze his video.  Her channel is called Bombard's Body Language.  It's good.  She does Putin and rapists, presidents and comedians.  Maybe [FAKE!] Satoshi Nakamoto, Craig Wright, with some asking ...
91  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright: "You dont need to hold the blockchain. Its ok if only banks do." on: July 03, 2017, 06:10:54 AM
That is true, but who needs a full copy of the blockchain that they have personally verified, and why?

I wonder which would bring more capital. Let's do some numbers ...

Sen A:
RasPi = $100
HHD = $100
mEx = $2?
n = 30,000

Total value
$6,000,000 (sunk costs)
$60,000 (global monthly)

Sen B:
Super computer = ?
HHD = $20,000
mEx = $300
n = 500

Total value

? + $10,000,000 (sunk costs)
$150,000 (monthly expenditure)

You can change the numbers around, but a running copy of the blockchain is more important than one that's not exchanging information.  In my 0.8 BTC lost opinion, it's not worth running coins through Core. It doesn't even interact with Trezor. Copies should be spread around.

You can change the numbers above and I'm sure I am wrong, but what this dude said was interesting.  The pictures of how Bitcoin works and the edges. Really interesting stuff ...

I love BTC!

That reminds of a question I wanted to ask you Kano.  When will you open an Ethereum Pool for us?  Lol.  Tongue
Probably never, I hate being part of a scam - in any way at all.
... and I certainly don't want to make any money out of a scam.
I've yet to find an alt-coin that isn't ... if you think it isn't, it just means you don't know enough about the coin Smiley

Flick ETH!  I used to think I like ETC because I had a dream about building some SL empire in GTAV online by selling and building real estate meshes over the ERC20 token, but the ICOs have shown just how vulnerable the underlying tech is.  I guess I don't know if it has a mempool or what. It's just a bunch of IOUs that can be erased at the will of one person.

@Kano --> have you ever considered merge-mining? PPC isn't a scam.  It's dumb and has no purpose, except to trade for more BTC, but its founding seem legit in the 0.00223556 BTC worth of research (8 hours mining / 2 reading).

93  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright: "You dont need to hold the blockchain. Its ok if only banks do." on: July 02, 2017, 06:59:48 AM
... hostile take over (or trying to do so) is only leading to ruining bitcoin. and taking over a ruined bitcoin has nothing in it for them!

That depends on time horizons.  I agree there have been childish games played. We would be better with one bitcoin, but parts of the community just want to push forward without thinking through the need to change BTC addresses with payment channels (as we we have seen on $LTC). I have never understood SegWit from a point other than when I first got into Bitcoin, I wanted to start a quick POS service to allow Bitcoin payment while immediately converting and skimming.  I found the answer, SegWit!  It's too bad the conversation is SegWit=moon and Floodcontrols=coffee

I go back-and-forth.  I can see bigger blocks to secure the blockchain and SegWit for POS programming. Both are helpful in their own respects.  I just can't help but wonder what is wrong with BIP9? It works.  I've never had it fail on me - aside from losing 0.8BTC to Mac HW failure or accidently sending a 0.008 fee tx (which I think is a front-end failure).

I think we will only have one bitcoin.  If not, I'm still in this game but will put more attention on DASH for business dealings.
94  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright: "You dont need to hold the blockchain. Its ok if only banks do." on: July 01, 2017, 08:57:26 PM

ETH network has not enough complete nodes and look the result : less transaction and already stuck.

That's the least of ETH's problems and I don't follow the logic.  To use an anology, if a lakeside house is on fire, the water in the lake is limited by the diameter of the firehose and pumps (or people with buckets).

95  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright: "You dont need to hold the blockchain. Its ok if only banks do." on: July 01, 2017, 07:50:57 PM
Wow!  What an underappreciated video.  I'm surprised their isn't more discussion in this avenue.

Thanks for linking directly to video.

On the latest Craig Wright appearance there are some interesting claims. He says you don't need to hold the blockchain yourself, he attacks full validating nodes, he says it's all meaningless and you don't need it.

It's little more than HD mirroring. I can see his point.

If we are talking MadeSafe the case would be different due to the inherent properties of that tech.  The only good I have got from running a "full node" has been losing 0.8BTC due to super crazy circumstanes.

At the same time, he pretends to act as a force against the status quo, claiming Bitcoin is about sovereign money.

One way to look at this, even if you're a hardcore anarchist or libertarian, is to consider the blockchain nodes in a similar way as Wikileaks mirroring sites: the grew from 208 - 1885 in one week of 2010.  However, the content did not change between 208 and 1885.  Geographic distribution is as much or more important than overall total nodes.

We only have one major ISP in the US due to mergers. If the ISP cuts off service to BTC, similar to what they did with Torrentz it would not matter the number of copies if all located in the USA.  What matters is the access to these copies. I run a node to keep up on the blockchain, but you can get a copy of the raw file without a node.

At the same time, he pretends to act as a force against the status quo, claiming Bitcoin is about sovereign money.

Hard drive mirroring is not the tech that makes bitcoin special.  It's the blockchain.  That is to say, it's not being able to copy the blockchain to a bunch of locations that exists but that blockchain exists.

How can he be against people holding copies of the blockchain and validating their own transactions, which is what gives you the only way to be 100% certain that your money is not being (and i quote his term) manipulated?

Lose 0.8 BTC and you'll switch to a Trezor really fast.

Another claim to analyze is that he says the more people use bitcoin, the more censorship resistant it becomes ...

That's a valid point.

He brings an interesting persective.  Whether he is or is not Satoshi is irrelevant.  This is an interesting point.  Bitcoin works. It's sweet. Sometimes the fees go up, but we need more people to adopt it.

Thanks for posting this ...
96  Economy / Services / Re: Photoshop design on: July 01, 2017, 05:58:47 PM
If you are skilled in photoshop then you can show some examples of your previous work. Vouch copies can be bit expensive in case of photoshop designing. Your experience will be visible from your work examples. So try to add them in your post.

Good advice.  For example, I have been working with Photoshop / Illustrator for 14 years and specialize in Cities.  I may entertain other needs.

Here are four samples of work:

6th Ave N, Billings, Montana

SW Park Ave, Portland, Oreg.

Enrique Peñalosa, Urbanist

Bike parking, www.bikebillings.com

Long list of other projects. If interested [give contact info and pricing].

I hope this helps you explain to others and maybe the can give feedback.

Been a while w/o discussion.  I am looking for a place to host additional miners.

I looked at the website and it discusses only hosting your own server.  I'm not sure if anybody has had recent experience and would appreciate any feedback/help in finding someone to host ...
98  Economy / Service Discussion / Looking for colocation ASIC miner hosting on: July 01, 2017, 07:46:36 AM
I have one S9, currently, and an incoming L3+ that I would like to send to a host.

This has worked well in the past and the individual I use for my other units is full.

Does anybody have a lead or know somebody reputable or have negative experiences to share?

The ideal situation would be:
  • month-to-month
  • pay in BTC or PayPal
  • VPN access
  • positive reputation

I appreciate hearing your thoughts on the subject and potentially introducing me to someone.  I can't have these in the house.

Thanks

I just leave all of my rewards/payments (BTC) from here in the Coinbase exchange and use that as my vehicle for selling, buying, etc.

If you don't have them in your possession, they are not yours.  At a minimum download Jaxx, Exodus or MultiBitHD (my preferred). If Coinbase goes down or the government decides to turn off access for a little bit, you are at their mercy.

It's risky business keeping your coins on an exchange.

Guys what is  a good hardware wallet?  trezor ?  ledger nano s ?

I've loved my Trezor.

I recently invested in a Trezor.  It gives me a sense of security, especially after loosing 0.08 BTC and 7 LTC due to hardware failure (running Core). I can plug it in and it works with MultiBit.  It also has an easy-to-use web interface.

It was a little bit difficult to set up, but I have a Mac and everything crypto is lesser on Apple software.

In order to set up the Litecoin, you must go through beta.wallet.trezor.io/ and ETC is facilitated through Myethwallet.  In order to access the wallet you enter a pin.  One cool feature is the scrambled number pad to protect from key-log monitors. I believe it also holds DASH and some other ... Doge?

It's well worth the investment and you get the 12 or 24 word recovery phrase.  It'd be nice if it came with a case.

EDIT: The screen is a little less than 1"x 1".
