Can anyone help me understand what is the difference between POS and BFT. Are they the same thing?

Links below will provide you some useful information about the Consensus Protocol:

and why some public-chain claims that they do not mine ?

POS offers a linear scale regarding the percentage of blocks a miner could confirm since it’s based on that person’s stake in the cryptocurrency. That means someone with ten times more coins (e.g. - $10,000 vs. $1,000) would only mine ten times more blocks.

Also, some articles say that pBFT is not available for public chain. How about dBFT?

On a dBFT blockchain, the consensus has to be achieved among the specialized bookkeeping nodes only as most Bitcoin users do not operate miners.

Thanks a lot! I understnad now

Anyway, I was confused by the consensus protocols and can't understand why some so-called public chain does not mine.

138  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best cloud mining site on: January 27, 2018, 02:43:31 PM
Cloud mining, is just the newest Ponzi scheme.

You are buying someone else their equipment and then paying them a daily maintenance fee to get back your investment if you are lucky. The terms of these agreements usually allow them to cancel the contract when it is no longer profitable without giving you a choice in the matter. When that happens they pocket your purchase price.

For some of these schemes unless they continue to sign up new people they obviously aren't going to continue paying you a profit while they take a loss.

You are far better off to buy a coin (not during a peak) and sit on it if you don't want to invest in your own hardware.

It is not also new but it was one of the oldest scams where they say you will not invest anything but upon seeing how you are profiting in that said site, you would be tempted to buy as you said, daily fees and things that could increase your mining. A lot has been scammed and mostly, the ones who advertises it are ones who are affiliated or think they could increase their power by gaining more referrals.
139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does the video on an ICO webpage impact your investment decision? on: January 27, 2018, 02:30:17 PM
Videos are always helping to spreading the word. I like videos and reviews i spent much time on youtube.
Quality videos are really helping to understand details.

Well but sometimes videos about cryptocurrency should have more words in their video rather than just a person speaking. More of an invformative video that is moving and not some people filming themselves doing cryptocurrency things. I've seen some videos that are very informative but has too many links on the video and some are very short but most of the information you know is already there.
140  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Japanese exchange Coincheck has been hacked on: January 27, 2018, 02:16:21 PM
The other alternative to spending a lot on security is getting insurance against hacking. So far only Coinbase have done this.
They should take time and invest to insurance to give an assurance that they are safe, this makes a win-win situation not only for an exchange but as well as to the traders. For the folks out there that are into keeping their funds on such exchange, this is why you should never put large amount on any of them.
So far the only exchange that hasn't been hacked is Kraken
I hope they will not be on the news and became a new victim.

I start to wonder how could a high security exchange site be hacked? Aint it an inside job? or maybe they team was behind it and just blame hackers for that certain matter to make the public confusd?. Well we dont know the real story until it is investigated but NEM on other exchange sites i think would drop or will also lock the address. Because where would they sell it if all exchange would canel their NEM account?
