Earlier today, something I think wasn't so necessary happened that got me confused that I kept on having one question in mind which was "why?". I still can't place my fingers on the reason and that's why I had to come to the beginners and help board so the oldies in the game can help me by maybe telling me what was wrong and why it happened.

Firstly, when things like this happens, you should see it as an up to task responsibility of the moderator, because it shows they are doing their job well and perfectly, if you check well, some post got moved, some deleted and some locked, if you're experienced enough in this forum, you should be able to discern on the reasons for why either of these took place and why.

If you don't know, most of the actions you see them taken could have been reported to them by your so called fellow members, so if you think they are harsh, others could be more worse than they do, but as I've said, they are doing their job.

El_Tammy, now that you have enough good answers here, you should have understood why some topics get locked.
For example, this topic could be closed for this very reason, because any new discussion does not bring anything new or improve the conclusion that you will reach after all the opinions.

I think this discussion is best fit in the meta board by the way. Both admin and moderator can lock your thread if the need be. Irrelevant posts or off topic discussions can be moved to trashcan or locked. However, an educative thread can also be locked if it receives a reasonable replies as much as possible and then flooded by spammers repeating what's already discussed.

Your post was created on September 9th and received some merits despite it's not a new discussion but a repetition of what has been discussed a countless times in the forum. It wasn't locked immediately or moved to trashcan since it's also good to keep reminding ourselves and of course for the sake of newbies coming into the industry. No doubt, such thread is likely to be a spammers abode. The thread was very active until 18th that the last post was dropped. Perhaps, the mod noticed the spam and locked the thread to prevent further spam.

Mind you, you can request the mod to open the thread if you have important information to add to the thread. Creating a thread for every new experience in the forum is not necessary thou. You should get yourself familiar with the search bar first before creating a thread.

Threads are locked for various reasons which can vary from attracting spams to the board, introducing  a repetition of an already existing active threads and also for being of low quality.

Your topic can be locked if one or more person reports it to the moderator citing the above or more reasons and it's in the moderator's discretion to know the appropriate action to take either locked, moved to appropriate board, delete or move it to off-topic.

I think you should PM the moderator of your local board to know if he's the one that locked that topic which I highly suspect it would be and get more clarity on why the topic was locked.

This is local board situation, asking the reason your thread was deleted over there would give you best answers but here is what I think you did wrong and somethings you don't know about the forum.

As a beginner in the forum, there is rules in place for everyone. The first thing you should have done is to read this thread

Newbies-Read before posting, everything you need as a beginner to understand the forum is summarize in that thread to avoid your situations from occurring frequently.

You need to understand that each local board has their rules and regulations. Your thread is a repetitive post that has been discussed many times. The admin may delete your post, move it to off topic or achieved it if there is no benefit it will bring to the main board. Try to go through the local board newbies rules and regulations, it has all the answers to your questions.

Don't create off topics.

Earlier today, something I think wasn't so necessary happened that got me confused that I kept on having one question in mind which was "why?". I still can't place my fingers on the reason and that's why I had to come to the beginners and help board so the oldies in the game can help me by maybe telling me what was wrong and why it happened.

So today I logged in on the forum to see how I can contribute to posts, reply and also quote and see how my topics were and that was when something caught my attention. After writing what I wanted to reply with, I noticed I couldn't drop the write up. At first I didn't understand why not until I noticed my topic had been locked by an administrator. I was so confused because to me, everything was okay and there weren't anything that would have led to an admin locking the topic. After some time, I thought maybe it was because I still didn't have enough knowledge about the forum and how the affairs were handled, thats why I was confused and the only way I can get the answer I was looking for was through the beginners board. I believe there's no harm in asking for knowledge and wanting to know what you don't know and thats the reason I wrote this topic. The more conversant members should please help me with what I must have missed and please explain to me what was wrong with the thread so I'll not make such mistakes in the future. Below is the link to the thread, and I'll really really appreciate if it's looked into.

I think the administrators may feel that your thread has already been fully answered and responded to by the forum, or that your thread has already been discussed, so they locked it to prevent multiple similar threads from appearing.
But that's just my assumption, and it could be right or wrong. Wink

Maybe someone reported your account/consecutive posts and the moderator handling the deletion forcused on your account post history?
That was a possibility I had considered. I had a feeling that a moderator went through posts from several accounts and not just mine and maybe did the same in other threads but without any member reporting the matter, it is a theory. (That was before reading LoyceV below).

There was a topic about this last May. This is what caused it:
While the main reason for merging posts is to reduce the overall size of content posted by the same user whenever possible while maintaining general consistency of the rules, I now see that perhaps I was too overzealous in doing so for old posts. In the future, I'll generally refrain from merging old (as per what would be considered old when reporting a post) posts.
(read the topic for the full context)
That makes sense now. I thought something such as this could have happened, I was not sure if I had read about it or whether I assumed it had happened. The bot concept is good, if used correctly it could be a useful tool to make moderators become aware of posts that require their attention.

OP moderator locks thread and not administrator. Ifeel that your topic was locked by your local board moderator because you posted that thread since on the 8th of September and didn't go back to reply on it. Newbies are found of creating threads and forget about it without going back to read what others have posted. However, moderators do lock a thread if you have gotten the answer to the thread from responses of forum members to avoid spamming. You should have PM your LB mod to ask him why he locked it.
