It should be easier to get it removed if you bribe someone at the newspaper to do it for you.

Except there's no legal way to compel a bribed removal to be permanent. Could be restored from a backup, the bribe-taker could demand more $ for continued removal...

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.

Man that's a tough one. If you were in Europe you'd be able to take advantage of "The right to be forgotten" but no luck with that in the USA.

An indirect improvements would be to create good looking web pages (Linkedin, about.me, elance etc.) with your name and try to rank them higher than that newspaper article so at least the bad looking side is covered a little better.

so you meant to give out money to hack into that website and remove your name Grin ,if they have good security measures they can still hunt your ass down for that ,because you are giving them ample evidence for that matter Wink unless that local newspaper gives you the justice you wanted i guess nothing can be done, and still i think you can take the legal approach ,(defamation) , if the case was solved .  thats the only possible solution. find a lawyer and send a legal warning regarding the issue, i am sure they will take measures rather than you negotiating  Cheesy

Yeah but AFAIK it will only hide the result for european visitors.

Come on whos going to want to change their name just to get rid of a shitty possession article. If charges were dropped then just phone up the editor himself and tell him if its not removed then you will be taking matters further. If you werent convicted then its libel which is a serious matter if you were to get a lawyer involved, especially since it seems to be affecting your livelihood.

Not sure if this has been advised before but hire a attorney and file  a case of defamacy against the news paper.Set up a trail and on the basis of attorney's decision you might have to shell out a few bucks but it will all be sorted in the legal possible way instead of non-persistent methods on the internet.

Read a copy of 'so you've been publicly shamed' by Jon Ronson. That goes into some useful details about how to bury nasty info about you on the internet. The dude interviews some famous twitter pariahs.
