I recommend not to keep switching form 1 coin to the other just because they are seen as making more then others at the current time.  And also don't just jump to whatever anyone else tells you.  Take your time, and read the announcements.  Each one is different.  Find a coin that you believe the developers have a great idea or innovation.  And see if the developers come off as great people, or total jerks (There are a lot that are very high on themselves).  Then based on what you read, start mining for that coin.  Or you could stick to the safe Alt coin - LTC.  It's not going to make big waves, but it will be around for a while since it's by far the biggest Alt coin market.  With a single 7970, I don't recommend you try mining Bitcoins, as you will not make much at all, and as the ASIC miners continue to be shipped out, you will eventually be paying more in electricity bills then you will gain in what you mined.

100% agreed that do your own research. But one thing we can do is recommend you a list of coins to search for. my top three are PXC,WDC,DGC and LTC as always.

PXC: PmfFgdwwcXPa1QUmtVJevdPfHhmhztHHCv
BTC: 1P22tVABsd85L7kkpTmohCv5vK2BypFz3H
Phoenixcoin (PXC), a decentralised open source digital currency.

Yeah It is 100% alright and at that price it is still profitable to mine then BTC. I am keeping PXC for long term. So no problem for me at all.

Well ultimately its up to you, but I would mine FTC right now, I believe its about to shoot up in value, its at a all time low right now

on my one 7970 i get about 587 kh/s - 600 kh/s. So im wondering if this would be a good idea? :? Im mining Xencoin right now (solo) for the fun of it. I've found 2 blocks.

After mining Xencoin make sure to come to PXC the coin of future in my opinion. The developers are really active and there are lots of project on standby to be released soon.

And thats the good thing about a lot of alts - the Dev's are active. And thats good for crypto, miners, speculators, and the community as a whole.

And having choices is good. Alts also split the hash power so no-one has a monopoly and its a free for all gamble for everyone determining which coin will be the next 'bitcoin'. Maybe a few will be? Roll the dice and pick your coin  Tongue
