trying to see which processors will mine Prime faster?
Intel® Xeon® E5-2450 Processors (2.10GHz/8-core/95W)
or
16-Core AMD Opteron™ Processors Model 6376 (2.3GHz, 115W)
If intel's not.. what's comparable from intel?

my 1090t @ 3.6 & 2.6 NB is at approx 7.2-7.7 k pps
my 2600k @ 4.6 is at approx. 6.5 -7 k pps
I am an AMD enthusiast, but I never expected that kind of performance from Thuban.

I see similar performance between my i7-3770 and fx-8120, which makes me somewhat impressed with the 8120- it's a pretty old and low end CPU. I'm curious how an 8350 can do.

Whatever you do, don't buy a CPU right now for mining. GPU mining for primecoin is coming really soon.

Yes, but even the authors of these coming gpu miners are estimating only 2-3x speeds so multiple cpu is still maybe going to be okay. However wait a little and see i guess.

My 12 core AMD processor (6174) is consistently faster than my 3930k. So I would guess # of real cores is better than HT ( at least with sieve of 1M)

A GPU would be 25x times faster than both.

And you have proof of this?

And you have proof of this? ditto, especially when people writing the GPU mining software say 2-3x lol

Yes, but even the authors of these coming gpu miners are estimating only 2-3x speeds so multiple cpu is still maybe going to be okay. However wait a little and see i guess. CPU mining is catching up again. There are CPU only coins being released and you can make a quick profit if you jump in quickly. A cpu may be a good investment.

For the record, that's an increase of one core of a 6990 over one core of a phenom processor, so the true ratio is only around 3-4x increase, and so far that's only for the sieving process.

Well just an update. I just went ahead and purchased two Intel Xeon E5-2687W @ 3.10GHz. I need it for something else so mining can help lower the cost by a couple of $100s it'll be icing on the cake trying to see which processors will mine Prime faster?
