Brand new to bitcoins

Hey as the title says i am brand new with a few questions.
How am I able to buy bitcoins and have them in my bitcoin wallet (on my computer)
I want positive control of the coins I purchase and i also want to be able to transfer them to other people
currently I am using "Bitcoin" wallet

Sites like CoinBase.com let you buy Bitcoin by transferring money from your bank account into your CoinBase account and then buying the Bitcoin there directly. Sites like VirWox.com let you buy using your credit card, PayPal account, or other payment system.

coin.mx also looks promising but search the forums for opinions.

Or you could go virwox and buy Linden dollars, then trade to BTC, then withdraw. But there have been some issues there with BTC withdrawals, so check that first. Otherwise the site has a good rep. You will pay fees though (twice!) so it may not be good value.

You're already aware of coinbase from other posts. (EDIT typing fail.)

You also have the option of trading privately with someone here on the forums. You'll probably (definitely) need to use escrow which will incur a small fee, but it's a good way if you don't open yourself to scams (i.e. trading with newbie board members and sending cash first).

I think you're using the Bitcoin-Qt wallet?

well, you can buy them on bitstamp,bitkonan,cryptsy or even localbitcoins
you will receive them in your wallet, you just have to sync it

leave it open until it's up to date, you will be able to control&transfer the bitcoins you purchased
