Need Help with Nano Ledger S

Hello good night...

I have a Nano Ledger S  Wallet that hasn't been used for a long time, but after plugging it into a PC/laptop, the Nano screen doesn't display properly, there are even "dots" whether it's damage to the display or other error problems.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Do you have the seed phrase? If so, getting a new hardware wallet is probably the easiest solution. Don't enter the seed words anywhere else.

No, this is the first time it's been turned on so the seed phrase hasn't been backed up in this Nano Ledger S.

I'm not a Ledger user, but I've seen a lot of issues with its screen... If it's still under warranty, contact them and ask for a replacement unit ^{[here's a case with a slightly different issue]} and if you're out of luck, you can refer to the following thread: Ledger Nano S Oled Screen Replacement

It looks like the screen is now faulty. I assume you’ve got the mnemonic well stored somewhere offline, so if worst comes to worst, you’ll be able to restore your seed on another device/wallet.

The image looks worse than other cases I’ve seen, where some parts had the normal brightness, whilst other were very dim (but still there). Not sure if it’s due to the photograph itself, but I can’t see any of the dimmed part I was referring to on your image.

As a very temporary procedure in case of extreme need, it is sometimes possible, albeit not likely for a long time, to see if you can make out the information on screen in a completely dark room. Another option is to use the phone’s camera and zoom in (it seems to ease the dimming effect).

Edit: Missed your second post. If your ledger was brand new, you should get it replaced where you bought it. You could try using a different cable so as to give it a go, just to discard a cable issue.

I will add that if OP wants to send the HW to repair it's advised to send out his funds (but this means he will have to learn to set up a cold storage, other options are clearly unsafe).
Or inserting PIN 3 times incorrectly would reset the device, but I would not count on that, especially since OP cannot see what he's doing.

Clearly, a completely new HW would be the safest solution.

This is very common issue for many owners of Ledger model S hardware wallet, especially if it was not use for a long time.
Some people report dim screen, other have dots or other errors like missing lines on screen, that makes wallet unusable.
First thing you can try is to use your smartphone camera mode and see if screen characters are visible through phone screen.
If this is not working than you have to buy new screen that is very cheap, or buy new hardware wallet (Model S in discontinued).

My S is still in working order, but I'm aware that I could experience the same thing at any moment, because let's be honest, these aren't devices that are built to last forever. I don't think it's something that should be emphasized too much, because the screens on smartphones or TVs also break, and such devices cost significantly more than the cheapest models of hardware wallets. As with the advice above, contact the manufacturer and try to get a replacement even if the device is not under warranty (some have succeeded).

So it's brand new? If you still have warranty: return it. If not: I would get another one. I wouldn't mess with it to replace the screen if there's no value that needs to be recovered, at the risk of additional problems later on after you've funded it.

I'm curious: it looks like the display itself is faulty, and from what I've seen taking apart calculators as a kid, it looks like the connection is partially loose. I can't think of a way how that can be caused by not using it for a long time.

Who knows what could be the issue...
I know laptops can have issue with display board when some resistors or chips stops working or burn out.
Ledger is using very cheap chinese display, and it's possible contact connections gets loose over time or something related with crystals.
Most problems people reported with wallets not used for a long time was dim screen, I can't explain why but maybe ledger can explain this better.

if he is using it for the first time, it means that he most likely does not have any funds on him. if this is already the case, then he can think about other manufacturers of hardware wallets, it doesn't have to be Ledger again. certainly not after a bad experience, and in this topic we see that it is not an isolated case but a frequent occurrence display problem on Ledger wallet.
I agree with you, I wouldn't think about repairing or changing parts on such a delicate thing as a crypto wallet.
