Will you put money together with friends to bet on sports games?

So, just this morning, a close friend of mine approached me while we were in a small meeting with the power holding company that supplies electricity in my street( or rather, small community).

Knowing I usually bet on sports from time to time, he began discussing about sports events with me mostly centered on the current Euro 2024, discussion was interesting as i always enjoy discussions around football and all the arguments that goes with it 😁.

Along the line, he asked if I will be willing to join a group betting, I asked what group betting was, he told me it's just a group of guys like myself, coming together to join an agreed amount together to bet on chosen sports games, and if the bet wins, we take out the money with the profit and share it equally amongst ourselves.

It was an interesting idea to be honest, but I really was wondering if it was the right thing to do, remembering one incident that happened last year where two friends put money together in a bet, bet won, amount was really huge, the other stole the ticket ran away and cashed the entire money from a very far place, leaving the other guy with nothing.

What do you guys think, is this concept or idea a good one? Will you accept such request?

Just for the experience of it I think a group bet would be cool and splitting the winnings of course would be fun and I’m sure there would be celebrations and fun as a result of the winnings so that would be dope. If not winning it would suck for everyone but still probably end up with a night on the town so you really can’t go bad either way haha

if all your friends enjoy and have fun, betting with friends is not a problem. whatever the result is still feel the pleasure. but as OP said, it can be bad when there are one or two of your friends who start thinking about getting all the winnings and enjoying it alone, that would be bad. if it is a very close friend to you, maybe there will be a little risk. but if there are friends who are not so close there, then it can cause problems. money can affect a person's mind and ambition.

So if I was to be consulted, I would have suggested that they do the research and analyse on games to be played together, while they gamble individually, in other to avoid scenarios whereby someone will run away with the winning ticket.

I also agree with this. I think for the sake of the friendship staying intact and having no problems at all, all the friends should make their own bets with whatever amount they want and on whatever team they feel will win, and then they all sit together to watch the game. That would make it more fun because there wouldn't be any arguments or anything about the money or the profits or anything like that.

If I and my friends were to make bets together on a game, I would suggest this way because I feel this will make it better and more understandable. Sometimes even the closest friends can have problems when it comes to money matters, so it's better to keep financial things to yourself and only have fun together.

So I also think making separate bets on the same game and then watching the game together would make the experience more fun and exciting.

If the money is small it should be fun, mind you it is all about your friends, people do this to enjoy times with their friends.

Some people will end up been betrayed by one Judas in the group, when money is involved it is possible that you will be betrayed, this is why knowing your friends is important, i won't dare go with this idea if the money is big.

To have some fun money doesn't have to be involved and if it is a must to use money then it should the amount that is much affordable by you and your friends.

That's true going with such idea shows that you are no longer gambling for fun rather you are gambling just to multiply your money , because they will be like when our money is together it will be bigger, so the win will be bigger also . Which is wrong because there's no guarantees you guys are going win just by putting your money together, the best thing to do is to keep using the amount you can afford and do yours alone to avoid any form of issues.

You wouldnt really be having no feeling of regrets on the time that you would really be able to have that losing bet just because you do know that you are the only one who do make out some bet.
You are the ones who do make the bet and the ones who would be able to hold up in case you do win. Yes, it understandable that the money is pooled would be resulting on a huge wins too
but just like on what most people been focusing or telling into that there's a tendency that it would really be ran away and that would really be a huge disappointment on your part.
So it will really be much better that you should bet on your own and having no worries in regarding about this manner. You are the ones who would really be doing such decisions in regarding to this stuff.

Exactly, like imagine you went to the extent of bringing the game you guys are going to bet on and the rest agrees , if the game goes to you guys and you guys endup winning they will be happy and may not take it as a big deal, but in a scenario the game endup not going you guys way you will be the one to be blamed , because it was you that choose the game , and they forget the fact that in gambling either you win or you lose .

But I Stance is your personal money without adding any one else money , even when you lose you won't feel that bad and you can easily move on with it .

If you are the ones who would really be handling out those funds then its always been that better or ideal that you should really be that not making yourself to let on choosing on which team/player
you would be betting on. It will really be basing up into those people who do bet out. It will really be basing up on what the majority had chosen up. If it turns out that there a majority choice then
i dont see that you would be getting blamed by that since its everyones choice. Pretty sure that they wont really be letting the handler of that funds will really be having that full rights
on choosing up on whose to bet. You are the ones will really be just betting but of course majority decision will really be that followed.

Before friends would even consider putting money together to stake on a game together, that automatically means they know and trust themselves too well, so the scenario of one person running away with the winning ticket is unlikely to happen.
And then again, I totally see nothing wrong with a group of friends joining resources or money to stake on a game game, if they all have a mutual agreement on how to share the winning when it arrives, if they all contributed the same amount then it's only fair the profits are also splitter into equal halves too.
And again, we could have scenarios where not everyone in the group has an idea of gambling but is interested in putting in resources, which hopes of getting his own share if the game plays in their favour. This is one reason that could compell such a collaboration.

OP, the example you drew happens to be true in many cases.  Especially in multiple friends there are some characteristic friends who are a bit selfish type. If you can share business with them, sometimes they are dishonest with other friends. I have come across such friends in real life and they tried to own everything while doing share business and at some point my friends deprived me of everything. This can happen in gambling if money is pooled with friends to bet, then at some point selfish friends will decide to enjoy the profits alone from betting large amounts. You should always be careful and careful from these friends because these friends are looking for opportunities and if they get a chance they harm their trusted friends.
