Got this reply from coinbase:

Joshua replied:
Hi Ian,

We've had a hold placed on this user's account since the end of November so he can no longer use our merchant tools. If they have stolen your money I recommend going to the authorities, once we receive a subpoena we will turn over the information we have on this account. These kinds of users give Bitcoin a bad name, so I'd be happy to see them brought to justice.

I hope this helps and please don't hesitate to shoot me an email if you have any further questions!

Also, yes, I did put money in before I knew it was a scam.  Has anyone contacted Law Enforcement about this?

I contacted his county parole officer, but he had completed his sentence including parole/probation in 2012.

I doubt there's much we can do. We might be able to get info from his whois protection, but then it would be what to do with it. The problem with Bitcoin is it's main selling point, it's completely anonymous.

And moreover it's sad that when I warned, people didn't believe me!

Coinbase responded with a "we are overwhelmed with the volume of support emails, and have not been able to get to this one"... Or something to that effect. Replied back to that they needed to look into it still.

Tried to get by the police station today, but work was spread out such that I couldn't leave for a while. Going to try again tomorrow but may have to wait until Monday. Not sure if there will be detectives there on the weekend, and I was told specifically to insist on talking to one, even if someone else took the complaint.
Did you go to the police station?

The exact same thing happened on the feathercoin forums. Most of the victims have joined forces and they're about to take legal action.

Someone here needs to step up and take the lead like mhamilton and kevlar.

Best of luck.

The people scammed here should request the personal information to see if it is the same person.

This person is confirmed as Scott Davie.  There is an interesting thread ongoing about his many scams.  PM for more details (senior members only).
