Seems to me most altcoins do only minor tweaks to the bitcoin core desktop client.

Which coin has really done something innovative in terms of design? I don't mean features so much as look and feel - the user experience.

Definitely NXT for me.

You can try the online version here before installing on your desktop:

Bitshares also looked & felt nice.

I like Spreadcoin's wallet (pic). It has a built in vanity gen an graphs for net hashrate/difficulty.
I wish it could be shrunk to a smaller size and offered other color themes though.

I can't say it always works flawlessly but since you're only asking for a good design...i think NEMs wallet stand out in terms of design.
Note that this screen was taken from a tutorial so the delegated harvesting button isn't always in a red rectangle Smiley

New one is in progress though...

@john-connor

Out of 213 wallets that I have dealth with over the years Vanilla's wallet is my least favourite by a huge margin (excluding broken, super-unstable wallets).
As much I appreciate minimalistic, barebone wallets VNL is just terrible.

I mean it's needlessly small/concise, the windows cannot be resized and it doesn't even support RPC (GPU solomining).
I mean what the fuck is this:

To me at least it's an utterly horrendous experience to use it and I avoid using it as much as I can. But since I can't even solomine to it, I don't have to ever use it (even though I'd want to solomine).

Not your keys, not your coins!

This just got dropped today from our GUI designer and will be implemented in the next couple of weeks.

Of course I'm biased but I think it looks great and is as good as anything out there right now.

The design really looks fabulous, this is by far the best I've seen.

nice.     is it as fast as the current market leader's (3sec)

eMunie doesn't use a block chain so it's a little different.  Transactions clear in about 5 seconds, but our load capabilities are way ahead of anything else.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1191535.0

Basically the ledger is chopped into partitions.  We can burst at 2000+ tps per partition, and there are 1024 partitions....you do the math.

This looks really cool. But with so may interactive features on the dashboard, how is it performance wise?

Its the same answer I've been giving for 2 years....when its ready Smiley

Although, this year is a 99% certainty.  We'll be having an Open Beta in 1-2 months time, and from there things will really start to move forward fast.

You mean GUI responsiveness?  Most of the content will be on staggered timers and doesn't need to be updated in real time.  Graphs and things for example can be updated every 10 seconds or so.

The actual update of the graphs, tables, fetching data etc will happen in separate threads from the painters and use double buffer caching, so fluidity of the user inputs should be pretty good and the display components can still be navigated while new data is being prepared, then flipped.  If its not, well, I'm pretty good at optimizing things and finding novel ways to get them fast Smiley

BTW:  Best graphic designer in the universe? Nice Smiley  Take a look at this little competition we are having https://forum.emunie.com/threads/competition-debit-card-designs.4439/

This has got to be the best desktop wallet I have ever seen, the devs took extra miles to create this wallet,if they spent time and effort building this kind of wallet what more on their other projects, will book mark this coin and I'll wait for more updates

This e-Munie community and coin doesn't have an announcement and on their community they are always in beta, why they will just launch and modified and update as they move forward.they have been in beta since 2014 this is indeed a long wait..
