I've been using Kraken a lot and I'm majorly impressed. Trade volume is still low, but it's increasing steadily.

I've withdrawn Bitcoins several times and it's been almost instant. You will see your transaction marked as "initiated" for a very short time, and then "processing" (which means the transaction has been broadcast). Kraken isn't meant to be used as a wallet, but you could probably use it that way if you want.

I recommend Kraken for a few reasons: Payward Inc. (the company that built Kraken) is a fully compliant legal entity. They take security ridiculously seriously (they've spend like $200k on secure servers). They offer fiat trading pairs with Litecoin, Ripples, and Ven (if that is useful to you).

The bottom line is that they have integrity, something that appears to be hard to come by in the Bitcoin world.

I hope my case is just an isolated one:

"Kraken" is a DBA name for Payward Ventures, Inc, incorporated in Delaware in October 2013.

They are registered with FinCen. But that just means they filled out the form.

They are not known to Dun and Bradstreet or Find the Company. Their SSL cert is from a hosting company, Cloudflare.

Their street address that they gave to FinCen is 548 Market Street #39656, San Francisco, CA, 94104.
That address is a mail drop, "Earth Class Mail". This is the same mail drop place that Tradehill used before they shut down. That's a bit suspicious.

Persons said be associated with Kraken: Jesse Powell, CEO.  Michael Gronager, COO.  Constance Choi, general counsel.

Constance Choi has a reasonable reputation. She's an licensed attorney in California and works for     Kirkland & Ellis, which is a major law firm.

I know this thread is old... I just want to update just a little... https://kraken.com is up since 2013, and it has been some connectivity problem during 2017 due high traffic. Nevertheless, they have made a good job on January 2018 and now looks good... I do hope it will continue in this way. It is a nice place to trade (it works with FIAT too), on the other hand, they don't have advanced trading orders or they have them disabled as stop-loss, THAT SUCKS!!! FIX IT!!! PLZ!!!.

My "only crypto" favorite exchange is https://binance.com it has a great performance.
