Yes and I don't think the idea will work at all, if the idea is a research to find a pattern or method to solve the formula you have to remember the fact that the casino will always win anyway, I think it is impossible for bookies to build a business that involves huge amounts of money if they don't have very good security, even though the idea might work but I think it is very unlikely and for the past few years after online casinos became popular I have never seen anyone who has succeeded in executing the idea.

On the other hand OP said that there are actually other goals in gambling besides making money or for entertainment which one of the things mentioned is for research, but in the end I think the research is still directed at the goal of getting more money, meaning it is the same as the goal of making.

Of course, if the goal is like that, not everyone can do it because not everyone has such skills because it certainly takes special skills to do hacking. Maybe this can only be done by people who are experts in the IT field, and I myself have never seen or heard news of a casino going bankrupt because it was hacked by someone, most of the cases I found were the negative impacts of gambling addiction.

There are different categories of gambling and gamblers choose the category they like to gamble. Someone watches sports for which his first choice is betting on sports and someone has a fair understanding of casinos so he chooses casinos for gambling, it's a personal matter.

Everything that concerns or involves money, especially in large amounts, certainly has an extraordinary level of security, although it is possible for bugs to occur in the system, but I am still sure that the casino will always be on standby to continue to pay attention to the system  that is running, or what I mean is they will always check their system to check whether there are bugs or not.
