Japan surprised me on this list since I thought Gambling is completely ban on this country while only pachinko is the only gambling allowed.

It’s under the criminal code chapter 23 so I’m not sure why Japan is on the top spot with limited gambling games allowed for them to play.

But Italy did not strike me as a country where people specifically visit to gamble in.

A list of the most gamblers can be made when the country has official permission to gamble. In each of the countries you mentioned, gambling is officially allowed, so the official count gives an idea of how much people gamble every year, but in countries where gambling is not officially legalized, it is not known how much people gamble in those countries. Nowadays, gambling has become such a thing that every profession, every age group knows about this game of gambling, and everyone has a curiosity about gambling. I see a lot of people from my country gambling, but gambling is not officially allowed in my country. So even if all the people in my country gamble, it will not be counted. People are gradually learning about gambling easily and I think that in the next ten years, most countries in the world will directly allow gambling.

You are very mistaken, there is no reason to doubt Japan or any other Asian country. They love to gamble and even have their unique games. The gambling industry in Japan is huge. Just read the post above yours.

This. Gacha machines can be crazy, and I've seen people online addicted to it. If you play such things as a child, you are almost destined to become a gambler when you grow up.

I see that the population and economic status of the countries matter the most.

I could be wrong, but the data is likely showing us more rich people gamble not for the sake of making money, but for them to enjoy life. And those poor countries struggling hard to survive likely have no time for gambling. Let us accept the truth that gambling is an expensive hobby, and only those who have a lot of money can completely enjoy it.

I guess that could have something to do with their karma-based religions. People feel that they could be luckier if they are entitled for good karma etc...
Also to my knowledge there are some numerical superstitions that could play a role in gambling, even though China probably outranks them of that.

If you combine combine numerical superstition with idea of karma, then everything else seems like overthinking because gambling seems like obvious result for it.

Normally the countries that gamble the most according to google is in the picture below that I am posting here for convenience, there has been such a thread a long time ago that asked about the same and intentionally if I recall correctly that thread asked the top 10 countries which gamble the most, it is exactly these countries that the picture below represents. Honestly I am extremely surprised to see that the list is being topped by Aussies from Australia as from far or distance they look like people that do not give a damn about gambling. In the end these countries will surprise you who gamble the most in the planet right now.

I'm surprised to see Canada at the top of the list here, but I had to call a friend of mine who lives there to ask if it's really true and she confirmed it lol. She said they gamble a lot over there and it's a serious problem because immigrants who come from other countries dealing with gambling addiction go there and get worse. With all the laws in Canada I thought this would be prohibited. Spain isn't really a surprise to me

I thought our country was among the most gambling countries, but it's not true, that's why I said that because gambling is so widespread here through online, especially when there was a new administration in our government that supposedly legalized gambling here, even though it was illegal, they made it legal, it seems like that.

Then there are also so many well-known influencers here who promote gambling casinos that most of them seem to be promoting illegal online casinos, so many people are addicted to online casinos, which is actually not true.
