12 Baanks work with R3 to trial Ripple's XRP

Yesterday it was announced that Ripple's Interledger protocol is the default digital payment standard for JavaScript.

Today we learn that not only are banks trialing Ripple's technology but they are now trialing their digital currency too.

In fairness what the banks really need is the Ripple network. They do not need a blockchain but a distributed database and that is what Ripple is. Also their gateway system is perfect because banks will make the perfect gateways and the Ripple network will make a good payment rail for them if the nodes work correctly under heavy load.

So far this year we've had reports of R3 utilizing Ethereum with Microsoft Azure and 11 banks. Then they abandoned that and tested blockchain solutions with Eris industries, IBM and Intel (apparently with 40 banks this time). Now more of virtually identical news but, utilizing ripple this time.

Even if banks decided to utilize blockchain technology it will never involve any of the currently available public chains or utilize massively created tokens like ripple. They will simply create something new and in house.

I had some Ripple accounts a while ago. They closed Rippletrade without notice and I couldn't get back my XRPs. That plus a lot of other things (outrageous distribution), I'm not a big fan of Ripple.

Did you save your private key associated with your Rippletrade account? There was a standalone wallet you could import your private key into and use to move your XRP to an exchange. The code was from ripple labs, but you had to compile it yourself. You could use that wallet to bypass using rippletrade.

Someone compiled it and put the link on an old ripple forum that is now closed. A new forum started that has links to desktop wallets. It might be one of those, or someone there might know the link to the wallet I mentioned.
