Yes, faucets are a waste of time. You will have a hard time convincing someone of the fact though. Mainly because all they see is "free moneyz" and do not understand that dust inputs are a pain in the arse.

No, I don't think it is a waste of time because the prime approach to bitcoin and especially to get some satoshi is by the faucets. When "the newbie" will learn more about bitcoin he can stop to use faucet and start to buy btc or gain them, by providing a service.

love or hate faucets. Having them moved to their own sub-board is a great idea. Lets clean up the ANN mess.

I agree with this, having them removed wouldn't be fair since they're directly connected to bitcoin but it's a mess to keep them with other topics.

Maybe create a child board in the newbie section as I've suggested.

It's that mean taking free samples on the mall/shop are waste of time too?
After taking free samples, somehow you'll interested buying the real product Wink

It's okay, I already know faucet are waste of time, Also I didn't force you to use it.

But this free sample behaves completely different. When I get 100k satoshi from a faucet and have to pay 10k satoshi to spend it, my concept of bitcoin might be: wow thats neat, but those fees are extremely high.

Sure no one forces anyone to use faucets. I used them myself as a newbie even though more knowledgeable members explained how much of a waste of time they are. I said: well I sit in front of computer anyway, I can just click this faucet every X minutes and get some free coins. In the end though I stopped, because it turned out just reading(!) here was more profitable for me because I actually learned something.

Just imagine a Newbie would instead of buying a coffee one day, buy bitcoin for 3-5€/$/etc. worth. Just for testing. They would get a weeks/months worth of faucet grind in bitcoins and have a way more pleasant experience. Yes, faucets give you free coins, but the only person thats profiting is those running the faucets.

Is there any changes on your though about Bitcoin before and after using faucet other than wasting time?
After getting payment, maybe something like this:
- "I see how transaction works now.."
- "Ohh! There's transaction fees on transaction"
- etc?

Because you only learn there's something profitable other than faucet, and forgotting the other (Unless you already understand Bitcoin before).

Have you read my previous message?
Then I states to not spend some of my money of bitcoin, I didn't want to spend to something I don't know to use. Just like buying a car but you didn't knew how to drive. There's still a lot of people who didn't really understand how to use technology, so practice is the most successfull way.

I even introduced Bitcoin to my friends, but most of them just replies me with "Why don't just use money? I don't know how to use Bitcoin.." even after I'm giving them a guide. A written guide!

I guess I'm in favor of it, helps to organize the clutter
Since were on it mentioning it would be better in my opinion to make it a sub-section in beginners and help it does work in services but since faucets tend to target new users and consist a significant amount of threads in that board, its not a bad fit there.

As a side note - We including alt-board faucets since their are a significant amount of altcoins they need a central location as well.

I am actually wondering why we don't have special faucet section already. Is not hard to create another subsection, and I also think what could possibly (apart of faucets obviously) fit in that new subsection. Maybe it could be called be faucets&giveaways section?

Yes those are part of the "well thats neat" thought and the complaints about the fees beeing to high are less common now. The point still stands that Bitcoin behaves different when transferring small amounts than it is when transferring high amounts. By high Im talking about >100k/1M Satoshi, not 1 BTC or up.

Have you read my previous message?
Then I states to not spend some of my money of bitcoin, I didn't want to spend to something I don't know to use. Just like buying a car but you didn't knew how to drive. There's still a lot of people who didn't really understand how to use technology, so practice is the most successfull way.

I think my point was not made clearly. IMHO its better to invest a coffees worth of your local currency into bitcoin than to grind your ass off on a faucet. Suggest an app your friends install on their phone and send them 0.01 BTC for buying you a coffee. Now they have something to play around with that is not a false representation like 5000 Satoshi are. Something that does not takes weeks of determination to get. Yes, I am exaggerating a bit here. I know faucets dont pay out that low any more, but I had to clean that mess[1] up for enough to people to know that faucets are not the way to introduce people into bitcoin. I used them myself, I know how hard it can be to convince someone how they are a waste of time and seeing that you run a faucet you are probably convinced that you do something good.

Certainly, sorry for derailing the thread. I am certainly in favour of a dedicated faucet section, but seeing that only a single thread per faucet is allowed I wonder if its reasonable. Opening a section for 100 odd threads?

The main reason why ponzi games were given their own board was because the main gambling board was being overrun with ponzi games. It got to the point where over 3/4 of the threads there were ponzi announcement threads or discussion about ponzis. After taking a look at the service announcements board, it looks like about 1/4 to 1/3 of the threads there are about faucets which is still a fairly high amount. If there were only a few faucets, then a separate board for them would be unnecessary. However, faucets really only appeal to a small group of people since many realize that they just aren't worth the time and energy spent on them so creating a separate board makes sense.

I'm leaning towards the view that creating a new board for faucets would be a good idea.

adding a different section for faucet announcement and discussion will good
so people interested in them can post in a saparate section and others don't see a lot of unmanaged faucet related topic anywhere on forum

Yes, the service announcement board is starting to become the next gambling section, it's being overrun by irrelevant faucet announcements.

Thanks for your opinion.

Where would this new board be located? Would it be better if it was a sub-board in the Service Announcements section (like how the ponzi games were moved to Investor-based Games which is a part of the Gambling section) or a sub-board in the Beginners & Help section?

I suggest giving the faucet users there own spot as well as a referral spot. This way it keeps them off the other threads and contained to one spot. If anybody post referrals out of that section, then ban them. But at least this way people aren't looking for "Slick" ways of trying to gain referrals through posting spam in the threads.
