Cooling BFL Singles

Just curious what you guys do to keep your singles cool in your home. 2 of my singles will only run at 800MH/s while the other 2 can be on the 896 and 880 firmware so I am trying to figure out what to do about the 2 hotter ones. Would replacing the fan make a big difference? I think it was Diablo-D3 that recommended Delta AFB1212 on IRC last night.

Here are my current temps:
872MH/s @ 46.2C
862MH/s @ 38.1C
794MH/s @ 48.3C
795MH/s @ 45.3C

I want to figure out what to do about those last 2, or am I just stuck with them running slower?

remove the case of the single.
if this is not enough then put another fan under the single which blows at the board (space should be at least 2-3cm).

Would setting all 4 of them on top of a box fan that is raised up a little bit work good?

Excellent move, although I'd still keep drinks/pets/crazy drunk girls away from that table though... especially now that the Singles have got that extra bit further to fall if some clutz visits a calamity on you

Actually, at the time, I sold the ones that had run the fastest hot.  These were just going to sit here and mine until the ASICs showed up at whatever firmware I could run, but I can't stop myself from fucking around with them.  Right now I've got the a/c on 24/7 at 68 degrees.  Keeps my office nice and cool

As I've mentioned elsewhere - my BFL started to play up until one FPGA seemed to be dead
(though I hacked cgminer a bit so it was happy hashing anyway at half the rate and ignore any errors or problems)
Then it died
Then it worked again, and died again etc etc
(the fix each time was usually a power cycle)
In the end I simply reflashed it with the 880 bitstream to see if that would kill it ...

Yeah these things are just stupid
Of course that is really good for me - but why the hell is it actually working?
No HW: no errors no problems but it's running at 57°C (it varies from about 55 even up to 58 sometimes)

I've been running it with the 880 bitstream since 26-July - only twice did it play up ... coz one of my kids moved a bean bag behind were it sits at my feet on the floor and thus the air wasn't getting away well so it started to throttle badly (happened twice)

So I'd say (what I said back when I got it) the throttling hardware in these things is just ... not very good.

I think that BFL agree also ... since they didn't put it in the MiniRig cards.

Edit: mine is the one with the new heat-sink but only a single fan on top

This is what I did with my singles. I removed the case and put another fan below the unit which gets too hot (while having 27°C in the room). It does work fine and helps to reduce the temps by +5°C. I also tried to change the direction of the default fan, but blowing down did not improve my temps, they got even worse.

So when you replace the fan, you're not running the new fan off the Single, are you? I see the empty fan pins in that pic, and I've heard that a faster fan can draw more power than the stock fan, and can harm the Single.

the fans I'm using are not faster than the stock fans, they are way slower and therefore not as loud as the stock ones. the left fan be a noiseblocker and the right one is a noctua.
you can see those pins (of the cable because) I am using an Y cable to power the other fan mounted at the bottom. his power comes from an computer placed under the desk (didn't have a single extension cable).

The other pins on the board were never used. The units (rev3) shipped with two pin connectors but only one connected fan. Maybe this is still left from the early revisions which also had an additional fan mounted at the bottom.

the left top fan is a Noiseblocker BlackSilentPro PE-P 92mm. the right one is a Noctua NF-B9 PWM.
I would say the noctua is quiter, but it is hard to say cause there is not that much difference at all.
I'd guess both fans are running at full speed as they are connected to the BFL Single.

I thought about buying these the other day 1 to put underneath my rev 3 and the second to put beside my rev 2
since i've been told mine run way hot 55-58c constantly.
