it was expected, with that huge amount of money, many will fall in temptation, cops are not excluded

i'll not be surprise if other coins from the silk road would be declared missing in the future due to others greedy authority

According to a post on reddit, there might be some connection between the rogue officials and gox as well.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/30tgkv/undercover_agents_working_on_silk_road_case/
http://www.justice.gov/sites/default/files/opa/press-releases/attachments/2015/03/30/criminal_complaint_force.pdf

If anyone has the time to read through all that 95 pages and make a summary, I'm sure lots of people would appreciate it. Lots of pages to read..

another negative news in Bitcoin sphere Angry
You mean in the government sphere.

In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

I disagree this is a negative. It's pretty positive - it shows even the Feds see the value of bitcoin enough to steal them. It also illuminates the degree of corruption involved in going after Ross.

Nobody is oblivious to government and law enforcement corruption. But to see them stealing bitcoin is, unto itself, a positive for the true value of bitcoin. I would've thought it'd jump up a few points on this news  Cheesy

I find that funny. And it will be impossible to claim or blame them if they had been let away with it.

In all, the officer made several mistakes.

--> He leaked his real name in an unencrypted message on Silk Road
--> He connected his real identity on Bitcoin exchanges to the cash he was making illicitly
--> He used his official DEA laptop to login to his personal identity on Silk Road

I wonder how he could have neglected such serious issues, given the fact that he was investigating someone on Dark Web.  LOL.
If he had been more serious about these issues, there was no way for him to have been caught.

OK, just a short thought experiment here to repeat the statist line of thought.

Bitcoin is used by some people for nefarious purposes. Therefore bitcoin is bad and must be banned. This will stop people from doing nefarious stuff. Huh Profit!
Bitcoin is used by some law enforcement officers. They are using it for something nefarious. Law enforcement officers must be banned! This will stop law enforcement officers from doing bad stuff and protect the public?Huh Profit!

I'm not surprised, at all truthfully. It never surprises me who sucumbs to greed now a days. Absolutely anyone can be a culprit in a "Bitcoin heist". It's way too easy to get away with if pulled off successfully, and those two federal agents probably had a reasonable chance to execute this robbery as well. One of the many reasons that I feel Bitcoin won't come out in the public's eye as something they'd want to invest time and money into.

It doesnt come as a surprise that they are stealing, but their carelessness is insane, one more fact to their raputation, they seam to be unable
to do anything right Smiley i would expect atleast some effort more in covering their identities and tracks, since they ought to have experience in that.

cheers

I agree, it's pretty damn positive. They can bash it all they want, but this only shows that internally, there is a want for Bitcoin even among the so called forces of order. The govt bashes it while hunts it.

Bitcoin has value, and it can be stolen, bartered, hacked....just as any other currency out there.... we are no more special than any of the currencies out there.
