If reddit complies that would do real damage to their standing in the bitcoin/crypto community. I am no fan of reddit but hopefully they stand on the side of privacy on this one.

It would be pretty nasty that reddit delivered private information, but how silly are these agents I think? they all probably under TOR anyway. Personally i dont care tho, my only drug is making Bitcoin.

I'd like to think reddit wouldn't give up any user information but if they're leaned on hard enough by the feds I'd of thought they would have no choice but give it up. Wouldn't they have to do it by law been as it's related to an illegal marketplace?

As far as I know reddit stores the IP address of the computer you use to sign up, apart from logs of the last one month. So unless you have consistently used tor, there may be a trail.

Reddit claimed that they follow U.S law since their a U.S company, are the feds forcing them to (like they will go to jail if they don't)? If thats the case then there's nothing they can do. If it was the other way around then hopefully they wont tell the feds.

Which the chances of a subpoena is almost 100% so they will be squealing and anyone who is wanted for whatever reason is going to be found unless they have covered their tracks very well "0 chance of that" i would be pretty worried right now if i had been involved with anything dodgy and wasn't sure if i covered my tracks well enough

They would have to go out of their way to store IPs. If they didn't code into their database there's no data there.

They can also fight the subpoena as being illegal/unconstitutional, however their chances of winning such fight is probably not very good. I am not a frequent user of reddit, however I would think that most of the users whose records are being subpoenaed would pretty much always connect to reddit via tor, plus according to the article reddit only stores IP information for 90 days, so as long as they didn't slip up in the last 3 months there is no reason to think their actual identities will actually be revealed

They can track them through browser finger printing..... They just looking for a shortcut way to access their information. Tor would have given them some anonymity, depending on their use. Some exit nodes are sometimes compromised. This puts r/Bitcoin in a bad spot with Reddit and as usual the innocent will suffer for the bad stuff a small % of bad people are doing.

For sure Reddit will give over all the information they have.
If they do I think their reputation will suffer badly within the bitcoin community. Bit coiners make up a large percentage of their user base. Hopefully they do the right thing with this.

I don't think it really matters to them if they lose every Bitcoiner when failure to comply will cost them their business. The only "right" thing to do when a business is faced with a subpoena is exactly what the court tells you to do. I've posted this so many times and I guess no one believes it. This is anomyous: This will never be truly anomyous: Stop saying and doing anything on-line that you wouldn't say or do in front of your mother in church on Sunday Christmas Day. Don't break the fucking law. If you just can't control yourself don't post your criminal activity on-line.

Are you sure? I mostly seen Bitcoin hating on Reddit. If they legaly have to then they will, if they don't then they wont.

Given a choice between losing their reputation within the bitcoin community and going to jail they will choose to lose their reputation. There is no way they will choose to rot in jail for years to save a few bitcoiners skins.

Those people did something illegal, the knew the risk, if Reddit has their data then they are off to jail.

I agree, if you can't even do highly illegal things online without tor or a vpn should be arrested anyways.
