Rand Paul taking bitcoin donations

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — In what appears to be a first for a presidential campaign, Rand Paul is accepting donations made in bitcoin.

The cryptocurrency would appear to be a good thematic fit for the presidential campaign of the Republican senator from Kentucky, who has somewhat of a libertarian bent. Paul also accepts credit card or PayPal donations.

While new at the presidential level, candidates for U.S. Congress did take bitcoin after a Federal Elections Commission advisory opinion gave its support.

Most who accept bitcoin as payment quickly convert it into good-old-fashioned U.S. dollars, though the FEC opinion doesn’t require this.

Also read: Bitcoin has no place in your — or any —portfolio.

From four-figure highs, one bitcoin was worth roughly $254 on Tuesday.

Great... Rand Paul becomes the first US presidential primary candidate to accept Bitcoins... (I am not taking the Democrat guy seriously, because he has got Zero chance of winning the primary). This will take the interest in Bitcoins to a new level.

More people who accept bitcoin like this will get more publicity looking into and bigger stock holders. He is only accepting donations no doubt will keep it for the future but good to see someone in the position he is in accepting in some way or another.

Who is "the Democrat guy"? There will be a Democrat who wins the Democratic presidential primary, who will face the winner of the Republican presidential primary, et al.

Saying that you don't trust someone because of their behavior is completely valid.

He managed to get into the headlines of newspapers across the world by just announcing that he accepted bitcoins.
Good publicity for him, good publicity for Bitcoin.  Smiley

I was talking about the Democrat primary candidate Robby Wells. He has announced that he will be accepting donations in the form of html5coin, which is a less known crypto with a market cap of a few tens of thousands of USD.

Donations are capped at $100 atm for Rand.

I chipped a bill at them too... he'd be better than Hill Dawg.

Looks like he is using Bitpay.

He is the best choice atm.

So can we donate him more than $100 by making multiple transactions? Is the limit per person, or per transaction? $100 is a bit too low, if it is per person.

Man it would be great he manages to get out of the primaries. The biggest threat for him is the establishment republican party. His ideas would resonate on a national level. Donation sent.
