Is bitcoin 2 coming out next month?

No.

Everybody knows eleven is my favorite number, so if there was going to be a major release of bitcoin it would be "Bitcoin 11".  But it ain't gonna happen.

Only 11 kinds of people in the world, those who can count in binary and those who can't  Cheesy

So what's the third type of people?  (you said there were 11)

11=2 in binary

Really?  Not in any binary I know.
What is 1, 2, 3 in binary?
1 =
2 =
3 =

He actually meant "nary" which in old english is defined as "not one." The "bi" prefix is naturally a sexual orientation conjugation he chose to append.

If 01 + 10 = 11 = 3,
Then why doesn't 01 + 11 = 12 = 4?

To answer the question (serious or not, some may not understand), we normally use base 10 because there are 10 symbols in our integer counting system, 0-9
Base2 has 2 - 0 and 1
Base16 (hex) has 16 - 0-F

so

Base10Base2hex
000
111
2102
3113
41004
51015
61106
71117
810008
910019
101010A
111011B
121100C
131101D
141110E
151111F
161000010
171000111
181001012
191001113
201010014
211010115
221011016
231011117
241100018
251100119
26110101A
27110111B
28111001C
29111011D
30111101E
31111111F
3210000020
3310000121

As a modern byte has 8 bits (historically not always the case) there are 256 different values a byte can have - sqrt(256) = 16 so we can describe a byte with two hex numbers - which is why you see hex used so often when talking about the value of a byte (essentially it is base256 with 00-FF as the possible values)

Funny how some people get angry about "Bitcoin 2" proposal (not in this thread, I guess, but somewhere on reddit).

The truth is, Bitcoin is 100% voluntary. I like my current Bitcoin and don't need to care much about Bitcoin 2. If, however, there begins a noticeable market with Bitcoin 2 guys (will never happen, but let's imagine that), I can decide to voluntarily join this market. Or not. Either way I have choice and everyone's happy.

I have always thought that humanity would have done much better with base-12 counting system than base-10. The Babylonians had the right idea with 60 as the most useful number, because of its divisibility, where 10 is very much inferior. The metric system would be much better in base-12 too. Too late now though!

Also there's base 58 as used in all our BTC addresses Smiley
It's also a bastardisation of base 58 to avoid having 0, I, O and l

in unary (like binary, but only one), it's 2.

1 = 1
11 = 2
111 = 3
1111 = 4
....

base58 usually leaves out two of 0, O and o plus I and l.
Point of base58 is base 62 but w/o characters that are too similar.

I've not seen a lot of implementations but most I have seen keep 0 so that the first 10 are the same. bitcoin doesn't.
Also most I've seen have lower case letters before upper.

But there is no standard for base58 as far as I know.

All number systems are base 10 if you think about it.  The word "base 10" is horribly ambiguous for meaning base-ten.  Smiley

Of course, a more obvious correction would have been:

Only 11 kinds of people in the world, those who can count in binary DEC Radix-50 and those who can't.
