It's a brand-new and unprecedented type of currency and investment -- anytime there's this level of innovation and disruption there's going to be scammers looking to taking advantage. It's like the wildwest.

To summarize the summary of the summary, people are a problem.
Any system that people think they can use to gain some advantage over other people is going to have some issues to work out. Bitcoin just doesn't have much of a legal precedent that people can use to deal with scammers/etc as easily.

Lol, I've wondered the same thing I must admit, or at least, should I say I have wondered if Bitcoin itself is the product of a MAJOR international scam, create a currency thats cool - wait for it to get big - "we'll have that thank you very much".... The bad people of the world could of created it, drug cartels, hackers, NWO, Govn, CIA etc, however its out there now - what happens with it could be out of there control.
However, I'd like to believe that the whole crytocurrency thing "could" be the start of something awesome to happen to mankind (for once).
And for that, I'm willing to give it attention and hope for the best.

Because Bitcoin is so awesome people want to get you to send them to them so they can keep them or sell them to other people who think they are awesome. Don't send them to these people.

+1 "I can't believe the investment I never understood went bad!" "but I trusted scammy-sammy1337 with my bitcoins, he said I would get rich." If you find yourself saying these sorts of things you should stop investing and start reading about investing. |

Scammers are everywhere, it doesn't depend on the currency or technology used. There has been a lot of ponzi schemes in the past and a lot of stupid people have lost their life savings trying to get easy money. Stay away from scammers and use bitcoins wisely.

Seals certainly isn't. But that doesn't mean you won't lose money on the site now that a few real poker players have discovered it. My skilled friend has 150% ROI there, put in 175, now up to 450BTC just from playing. I am down 70  |

Some of those same technically savvy individuals can't even paste together a decent website, let alone have a rudimentary command of the English language (their mother tongue) to populate said site with coherent content. Case in point, to use as an example, my brother-in-law is one of the best hand-tooled leather producers in the world, but his various sites suck grande. ~Bruno~ |

Bitcoin itself isn't a trap, what it is is unregulated - it lends itself to illegal activity, and as a result there's proportionally more shady activity than in other currencies. Still, buyer beware. This. There's a lot of incredibly gullible people on here dropping staggering amounts of money on people they don't know for projects they don't understand. The words "due diligence" seem to be meaningless to some members... |

Before anyone puts money in one of these schemes they should first do some fiat trading of front month options on a stock going into an earnings call. Then they will learn how much it sucks to lose money on an investment you don't really understand. |

The non-digital world is rife with scammers, untrustworthy people, hackers, and pyramid schemes. It sees like everyone wants to rob you of your fiat money. Does this show a weakness in fiat? Do you trust your money less because everyone is after it? Of course not! You realize that people want it because, on some level, it's valuable. Why, then, would you blame Bitcoin for the bad behavior of those who use it? |

well, there's really a lot of scam sites in the internet. not just people asking for bitcoin but any other types of money as well. pyramid schemes are also very popular in our traditional currency. the truth is, people are gullible and get scam. no matter what currency you are using |
