I have been noticing more and more factom.org transactions at coinsecrets.com. factom seems to be the largest player in "hashed data storage" on the blockchain.
I am guessing that their BTC address (or one of them anyway) is this:
1FactomGnNFTsTVx8jiGjcLKDpyL65GDsH
Checking that address at blockchain.info yields a lot of interesting looking transactions, most of them for $0.12.
Hey, just reporting a curiosity here...

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Lots of people received this dust. It s a new way of advertising. Some people even claimed LTCgear started paying again and this is just a way to test the system. Guess it wasn't.

... Ahh, dust... Well that would make sense that factom.org is sending out 12 cents (each) for name recognition. That works out to some 0.0005 BTC per recipient. Hey, factom! Send some dust my way! And factom might communicate more about what they are doing (I am on their email list). They are working an interesting niche that may wind up being big business.

i think they get a lot of people attention so most probably its a good way to advertise its just annoying I've seen that method used before. And there was even post about in on bitcointalk as well. So I guess it is really not that bad method of advertising if people are talking about it already. You can just say it is like mail spam - but in bitcoin version.

The easiest way to get someone's attention, is to mess with their money or to give them money for free. We have seen this before, but I reckon this type of advertising is going to get the opposite reaction. People are irritated with the "dust" it's creating in their wallet. In my opinion, it's money wasted on bad advertising.

Why didn't send me some dust too? I would pay 200 transaction fees with 50k satoshis... Ps: I'm paying 1kb/1000 sats each and generally my each tx is ~226 byte and paying around 250 sats. 50k sats = 200 tx for me :/

It's annoying/flood tier advertisements. Is this going to be a legit thing beyond a pump and dump? considering getting some.

Forgive my petulance and oft-times, I fear, ill-founded criticisms, and forgive me that I have, by this time, made your eyes and head ache with my long letter. But I cannot forgo hastily the pleasure and pride of thus conversing with you.

Not sure if advertising or just wasting money...
And you call yourself a professor. My theory is that it's a tracking mechanism under the guise of a pseudo-viable entity. I witnessed the same tactic before with that 1Laxo... address. Remember it! The ruse is to make it seem like only addresses publicly available are receiving dust, for who has the time to verify if such truly were/is the case with the exception of a person that's "so isolated" as Josh Zerlan refers to me as. 1FdHCgJgy41Zyp9DFmQGVEP9TTJaLFgfFp is a BWA that had only one transaction prior to being tagged, as I contend. Click the link and see for yourselves. That address containing 1000 BTC was never published anywhere else on the internet. So, what's so unique about that address? It contains bitcoins that once belonged to BFL, then the FTC, then back to BFL. That's BFL's BWA. I contend consider yourself fucked if you received dust from 1FactomGnNFTsTVx8jiGjcLKDpyL65GDsH to a BWA you maintain(ed) that was NOT publicly available for capture via roaming bots to distribute dust under the guise of some advertising campaign. In case you're wondering, the 1FactomGnNFTsTVx8jiGjcLKDpyL65GDsH BWA has deposited BTC dust into other BFL BWAs to track their bitcoin movements, most addresses, again, not being publicly available. The tactic is akin to, and a lot cheaper than using marked twenty dollar bills to purchase drugs on the street while donning a wire with a dozen LEOs just around the corner at the ready to make a bust if the buy goes down.
~16 minutes later... Rampion, Congratulations you are first person to notice / post about the little surprise the Factom team sent out today! We purposefully sent a little bitcoin to your address from the 1Factom vanity address. The reason the Factom team sent these bitcoins out is to recognize you as an early adopter / supporter of new blockchain technology projects. (Your address was among many on the bitcoin ledger who previous supported other community projects) We hope you will check out the Factom Software Sale and use this bit of bitcoin to claim your first Factoid(s) and thus be able to join our community as a beta tester / early adopter. https://koinify.com/#/project/FACTOMIf you aren't interested, that's cool just keep the BTC as a small tip for being an active part of the community. You rock. Love Team Factom That explanation DOESN'T fit my findings.

If factom REALLY wants more attention, they should send out BTC and NOT just to sham addresses... And enough to encourage at least some to spend it (I understand the amounts are tiny, but could be included with other BTC to actually BUY something and maybe spread the word.)
Tiny amounts and a secretive approach don't seem like smart marketing to me.
And, they have had some time to implement their ideas. Unless something I don't know about is going on, they seem to be losing mind-share.

Pretty interesting advertising method, although not the most efficient. Free money is free money. Most people don't look very far into where it came from, or whom it's from.

Is factom still around?
Resorting to spam-like advertising seems to be a rather good indication that the project hasn't gained much traction yet. Personally I find the idea of using the blockchain as a (time-stamping) authentication system pretty interesting. However I'm doubtful if one would really hire services like the ones offered by factom for such a simple task.
