try setting your clocks at 1175/685 with voltage at 1150.

"cgminer -o server -u username -p password --shaders 1792 --intensity 14 --worksize 256 -v 1"

im getting ~638mh on my 7950`s @ 80c in a closed case... (downclocked the one i have the monitor hooked up to cause it seems to run a bit hotter, 1075/685 @ stock voltage getting 550mh)

Woaaaaah I Really dont think my (stock 900) 7950 is gonna reach 1175, I also dont want to kill my card...
I updated my drivers to cat 12.8 from 12.6 and gained 40mh/s

as long as you have descent cooling it shouldnt be a problem, atm i got the single fan xfx 7950 black edition cards, ive been able to run them stable at 1200/685 but it got too hot for my taste as i dont have risers etc.

ive seen tests on youtube where they run these cards at 1200/1500 @1.25v getting over 10k scores in 3dmark etc with air cooling. but thats with 1 card in the case, so they wont get as hot as with multi card gpu "farms"

if it wasnt for asics id be getting watercooling for the cards and running them all at 1200/685 atleast Tongue

edit:
im running the 12.9 beta drivers atm if that helps.. when i switched from 12.3 (i think it was) to 12.8 the temps spiked up ~10c.... 12.9 seem to fix that issue

how do you lower your memory? With my two (different) 7950 - it is locked. I can only go 150mhz below engine....

Or don't use afterburner at all and just use the built in memory/gpu clock adjustments with CGMiner.

using the built in fetures in cgminer is all fine and dandy if you allready know what clocks to use on your cards yes.
but to find a stable clock i would recomend using AB and stress testing the gpu...

and with CGMiner it is NOT possible to go lower... (only 150 below engine)

Some 7950's are weird and have a crappy "qwirky" bios, Disallowing memory clock reductions through common methods, I think it has something to do with the card bios writer trying to make sure that the ULPS works

What Brand of 7950 do you have? My XFX works great

none of the 79xx cards are locked in memory so to speak, just takes some tweaking to do it, like afterburner...

i havent worked much with linux yet so im not sure what you should use there, but a quick google search should point it out to you pretty easy. Smiley

im still working on installing cgminer on my raspberry pi (wheezy) and my pentium 4 (ubuntu) for my asics... good thing i got some time til they come lol. Cheesy

just set a new (personal) record with my 7950`s Smiley

1245/685 @ 1.185v 664mh/s @ 79c (single fan cards in a closed case still)
running CGMiner with "--shaders 1792 --intensity 10 -k poclbm -v 1 -w 64"
and using 12.11 beta drivers

By the way,
Code:
--shaders 1792
does nothing unless you're mining litecoin.
Code:
-k poclbm -v 1 -w 64
also does nothing because they're the defaults in cgminer for that hardware. So the only thing you need to set is an intensity. Intensities above 9 on windows tend to increase CPU usage.

tbh i got no clue about the settings, as you just pointed out Smiley
just going with what ive read up on here on the forums hehe.

but it seems to be working atleast, highest mh/s ive seen anyone report so far on 7950 Smiley
only thing ive been trying to perfect is the oc

Hey ckolivas! glad to see you stop in here!.

Guys anyone think I might have damaged my card? I was running my card at 1.118v 1100core 800mem for about a week happily with the fans at 80% and the temperature at a Stable 80°c (peaking at 81° in the evening, dropping to 79° at night)

But now it likes to crash at those values Sad I've checked for dust etc, Cleared it out incase it was temperature related.
I have a singlefan XFX 7950 ghost

what kind of crash?
hard stall?
driver crash?
bsod? (if so what error are you getting?)
what drivers are you on?
your settings dont look too off other then you are slitely high on the voltage, and temps are good.

try setting your voltage down, you can run stock 0.995v at 1060-1080 core on most cards. try setting it to 1.050v at 1100 core
do some tests with gputool and check for artifacts

My cards' stock is 1.093v....

Yeah i REALLY misread how much you guys are upping your voltages by, I seriously coulda Blown my card. Running at 1.131? Fucck thaat I was running that for a little while...
I just ran overnight with 1100core 1.112v and it turns out that ran overnight, But upon using the computer for a little bit at the clocks of 1100c 720m the "amd graphi-blah-stop resonding"
My card reaches 1060core stock without crashing. I've set my fans so that the temperature never peaks over 81°c ... But is that too hot? My 6990 was running at 89° for a Long time
I really hope i havent hurt my card, I think i may have indirectly done something to it's thermal paste tho Sad

you can safely run your voltage up to 1.25. max on your card is 1.3...
not sure whats up with the stock voltage tho, my main card wich the screen is hooked up too i get 0.995 as stock, the others i get 1.093 aswell. but the one with stock 0.995 i can run at 1080/685, any higher clocks and i have to up the voltage.

with the voltage you set there i would up the clock to 1150 atleast. or turn the voltage down to 1050.
keep in mind that turning down you memory, lowers the voltage usage. (and heat)

81c isnt a problem at all, this summer my cards went up to 94c, when it passes 100c it will just shut down.
if you open your case and set a table fan up to blow streight in too your pc you can drop the temps down quite a bit.

you can always re-apply some thermal paste, its easy and cheap, and in most cases you will get lower temps since they tend to overdo it at the factory and use shit paste.

ps: and remember that even if a gpu is the same model and make, they are all different and they might not respond to the same oc abilities.

tweak away my friend Smiley

1.050v? My stock voltage of 1.093v gets me to 1060, And 1.106v gets me to 1100

Also, Could you look at the image i posted and tell me whats up with the voltage spike? Is that just an error?

i understand 1.093v is stock voltage, but lowering the memory means you will require less voltage aswell.
meaning you should be able to undervolt the card, wich will then generate less heat Smiley
like all oc`ing its just trying it out and see what works for you.

if your using firefox you could check out this thread. or just switch to chrome Tongue
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2200742

if your not using firefox i got no idea about the spike Smiley
