Sure there is a chance, much like there is a chance to win the lottery if you buy a ticket.. There is a chance but it is very small..

At 2231 khash/s it will take approximately 1040943295 days, 14 hours, 1 minute, 47 seconds at the current difficulty..

Are you sure you want to do Solo Mining? Why don't you just mining in a Pool? It will be more effective I think.

But he can still play the lottery - just in case he wins Smiley

But seriously OP, it's not worth it.

A cpu is too insignificant to mine anything in a pool. Better to gamble and mine solo.

With his hash rate...

Solo = Gambling to win big
Pool = Extremely low earnings

Neither. Both will return zero. You'll never find a block solo, and no pool would ever pay out the one share you'd find every hour at that hashrate as the denomination would be too small to pay out even after a year.

don't waste your time with that abysmally low hashrate, it's pointless to mine with such power, buy bitcoin instead they have a fair price even for average joe now

or you can invest in some cloud(hashnest and bit-x, the rest are not that good)

I had the same idea, I love the thought of the pop-up coming and saying that I have mined a block, but unfortunately it is near impossible.
I turned on the mining in Bitcoin-qt on my crappy old PC, left it for a few hours, then got sick of my PC running even more slowly than normal, so turned it off!

I doubt you have the patience to really give it a go, and if you do, you will still find nothing! so I guess I wouldn't recommend it!

Why not, think your chances of winning the lottery might be higher, but you've got to be in it to win it.

Hey! If you have 2 computers, you can double your hash! It's like having 2 lottery tickets!

2 times 0 (effective chance of 'winning') is still 0

Yes, I would say there is a chance but it is extremely extremely small.

Listen to what -ck says, he is 100% correct and legit.

That is on average.  You MAY find it on your first try or never.  That is the 'luck' that people refer to.

2 times 0 (effective chance of 'winning') is still 0

But people still buy lottery tickets don't they? Funny isn't it, knowing that you've pretty much got no chance winning it, but you still have that one small glint in the distance. I guess people know that they can win big.

Anyways, I don't think at 2231kH/s, you'll be able to get any Bitcoin, both with pool and solo mining.

Mining in a pool is a sure loss because of electricity cost. Mining solo is also losing money but has astronomically low chance to find a block of 25 btc
