The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

If matt loses he pays 20btc to 13dSK4663Ts7j2PwHS1eUVjycKLBwx7PJM. And he did it.
If matt won all participants had to pay him their bets. Grin

The fact that he is associated with that magazine has lost it many potential subscriptions.

Who can actually take this guy AND his magazine serious?

First off, IT'S NOT HIS MAGAZINE.

Do you own the company that you work for ? (unless you are self employed that is).
Matthew is an employee of Bitcoin Magazine. HE DOES NOT OWN IT and IT IS NOT HIS.

Except that is absolutely not what he said. He said "to that address" that would be specified "in the following format"
FORMAT. Not that specific address. Troll fail big time.

Are you kidding ? Who out of the trolls on this forum WOULD have subscribed to news that they all talk about on a daily basis on this forum ?

Bitcoin Magazine is not targeted to bitcointalk.org geeks and trolls. It's target is the REAL WORLD in an attempt to bring more people INTO the Bitcoin environment and introduce them to something new.

Nice try though.

Thats not what it said. It said to "that" address, which any reasonable person  would interpret as the address entered by the person accepting the bet, rather than the stated example. ITs the sort of thing a 7 year old who thinks he is clever would try to pull off. I never expected matthew to pay, but he fully deserves the scammer tag.

He'd probably have given out "that address" as the address to send payments to.

Note that after giving an example of a FORMAT to use,
Quote
please stick to the following format:
He says,
Quote
The above post would be betting 20BTC that he in fact is not going to payout as described. If I lose the bet, you get 20BTC sent to that address. If you lose, you'll need to send 20BTC to my address.
Meaning if he loses, he will pay to "that address" that you provided when you placed the bet in the format he specified. Seems legit to me...

Rampant speculation:
-Matt had a lot of PPT bonds
-This bet was merely an attempt to pump their value back up to 50% before he sold them off.

Matt is not merely an employee (like the part time janitor) of the Bitcoin Magazine.   Given the magazine is a startup and Matt was there from the begining it is highly unlikely he doesn't have an equity stake.  Thus if the magazine profits, he profits.  If the magazine goes bankrupt his equity (and thus time and effort promoting it) is worthless.

Yeah and when they find out that the senior editor makes 80,000 BTC bets he doesn't intend to honor it doesn't look very good.  When they learn more about Pirate ponzi and the amount victims lost, and the fact that Matt sold this bet as a way for Pirate investors to hedge their losses (and thus maybe not sell their PPT bonds at a worse rate) it looks even more scummy.

Matthew N. Wright - Single Handedly responsible for the downfall of Bitcoin Magazine. Thankfully they are only 3 issues deep now and can abandon the venture, as it doesn't have a fighting chance anymore, especially in a crowd as fickle as this one. Well based on his supposed actions to just troll...thus far...no one is going to want to do business with him here again.
