Hello,

I wonder what do you think about what that "red button" of the BTC network could be?

And what is its impact on the BTC network?

Because I like red buttons and I'm wondering when it's gonna be pushed !

What are you talking about? There is no single button someone can push to destroy the bitcoin network. The closest to it is a 51% attack, even then is it still possible to destroy the www with a button? No.

So... we're talking about a hypothetical button here, i.e. you want some creative input on what this hypothetical button could do, or do are you curious whether there's a red button? I know that Satoshi (and some of the core developers) have keys to send certain messages through the network that are then supposed to appear on the screen or something. That's some sort of 'red button', right!?

I should have gotten into Bitcoin back in 1992...

Maybe he is talking about like a panic button or something? His post is very cryptic. With regards to a panic button the only thing that could be like that is shutting down the internet.

Ahhh... the infamous "spend all your inputs as fees" mistake? Cheesy Back when I got into Bitcoin using MultiBit I was soon missing the possibility of configuring my transactions. It wasn't until I found out about the incredibly stupid and dangerous mistakes people make when spending their BTC, that I understood why you would want to limit the number of options a person may configure using your wallet software.

I've also heard about those keys to send some kind of warning message in the case of an emergency. Does anyone know where those messages appear? Do they pop up on Bitcoin core, or do they also appear on lite wallets like Multibit or Electrum!? Does anyone have more information on that?

Red buttons are passe.
Pulling the plug is the in thing.  Tongue

On a serious note, there can be no equivalent red button, not in the hands of Satoshi, not in the hands of the US Government, not in the hands of anybody.

The only thing I can imagine which can destroy the bitcoin network is a weakness in SHA hash. There could be one and it is not known yet.

My answer would be: when 100% of those vested in it abandon it. Or an EMP hits the earth and wipes out electricity. That'll do it.

Excessive regulation could be a red button. The lack or regulation could be a red button as well since scammers would take over.

Other then that, I see no danger for BTC. I used to think that banks might try to do something about it directly but now I see there s no way.

if you refer to something that could bring the price up then no one know, otherwise if you mean that the network will be shut down, then probably never, unless bitcoin die
