Adnormal very large transcation fee

Just found very large transaction fee, it is in Block 353672, but I can't locate the exact transaction

Well the miners definitely appreciate this. I'm going to assume that someone made a mistake while sending a transaction.
This has happened in the past, nothing new. It's easier to type 100 instead of 0.100 than you think.

BitMain/AntPool and BitGo are in contact wrt resolving this erroneous transaction fee. BitGo's CTO personally contacted me and has assured the loss will be recovered. A rep for BitMain has also expressed confidence that the excess fee will be returned.

Well you should suggest it. That would be a nice safety feature, because if the block gets mined by 'unknown' one can forget about his money.
I think a warning would be more appropriate. Like a box asking you to confirm when the fee is very high.

But what app would make it confusing enough for someone to mistake the transaction fee with the amount to be sent? Wouldn't someone that owns so much BTC already know the difference.

This probably made up for all the 'low' and '0' Fee transactions Miners allowed to go through.

High transaction fee is almost useless. It does not make next new block generation be faster, but just affects miners whether to include your transaction into next block to be generated. I think high transaction fee should be disallowed in wallet app to prevent  money loss from typo or other careless mistakes

In that case I agree with you, maybe a double confirm before send the bitcoin transaction. I think it is really necessary and can prevent this type of mistake.
