Hello everyone, it is interesting to compare in terms of efficiency and silence on all these options. Take for comparison the best for this in the main coins (blue chips) for stability:

1) asic the Bittman S5 on bitcoin (sha256), gives 1155 GHS or 2.78 dollar per day, while consumption of 590 watts, this 212 W/h on the dollar profit in a day. The best indicator among the ASICs.

2) graphics card Radeon 280x on Dash (x11), gives 8500 mega hash or 0.58 dollar per day, while consumption of 250 watts, the light spends the same amount (assuming 10 cents per kilowatt) is 458 W/h on the dollar profit in a day

3) notebook processor Intel i5-3320M 2.6 GHz on monero (GryptoNote), gives 438 hashes or 0.3 dollar per day, while consumption 35 watts (116 W/h on the dollar profit in a day) and without noise. The best indicator among the processors.

data on other processors can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MI-ic0Os25hgGUImW54sUIjZY_pUNQNa_W8Se5pRGBs/edit?pli=1#gid=0

calculator cryptonote here: https://minergate.com/calculator/cryptonote

4) GPU GeForce 750ti = 2887 Khash / 60w, it's 300 W/h on the dollar profit (x11, dash)

5) asic Terminator on litecoin (scrypt), gives 110 mega hash or 3.9 dollar per day, while consumption of 1000 watts, this 256 W/h on the dollar profit in a day

6) video card GTX 970 = 8500 Khash / 145w, this 250 W/h on the dollar profit (x11, dash). The best indicator among the GPU

7) hard drive 10 TB (HDD-mining) on burst gives 0.47 dollar per day, while consumption of 7.5 watts, it's only 16 W/h on the dollar profit in a day. The best indicator for any kind of mining. On a normal socket in 2.2 kW can be connected directly 137 such hard and have 60$ per day, with any ASICs doesn't work

8 ) notebook HD 8970M graphics card on monero (CryptoNote) gives 430 hashes or 0.3 dollar per day, while consumption of 100 watts, this is 333 W/h on the dollar profit in a day.

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Sadly GPU/CPU mining is dead for most.  Even if making a small profit you will not pay for equipment used during it.   Most lose money doing it.  And a laptop is horrible for high intensity.

Look into asics they really are only option currently.

That's a lot of hard drive!
Will Burst mining profit pays for itself?

Hey that is awesome! What is the ROI on HDD mining can you give us an idea, i have only just heard about HDD mining, i am currently trying out POS which is pretty cool, would love to know more about your setup!

X11 doesn't really do Nvidia GPUs justice. From experience, I make 4 times more BTC mining Quark and converting than doing X11 and converting.
Will definitely have a look at burst, since I can get hard drives for cheap at work, might be worth it.

HDD the best  Wink

So you decided to fuck up the community's brain here too?..

Buy S5 for 25000 RUB and enjoy REAL BTC-mining instead of your theorization.

Meanwile deploy a HDD-"rig" and mine BURST if you really need it.

Also buy some used GPUs to mine DASH, just to not store all eggs in one basket.  Roll Eyes Put it inside that HDD-"rig"...

Has it any future at all? Or it's just a technical curiosity?..  Undecided

According to the calculator, a 4TB drive pays for its value in 2.3 years (ignoring energy cost, which is very low).
I wouldn't buy brand new drives for Burst, but if you have some lying around, or can get used ones for cheap, why not.

As I see it Gpu mining actually seems like a more or less safe bet if you have decent electric prices, now this may not seem the normal idea but if we look here
https://www.whattomine.com/coins?utf8=%E2%9C%93&scryptf=true&factor%5Bscrypt_hash_rate%5D=1000.0&factor%5Bscrypt_power%5D=380.0&scrypt_nf=true&factor%5Bscrypt_n_hr%5D=450.0&factor%5Bscrypt_n_p%5D=330.6&cha15f=true&factor%5Bcha15_hr%5D=3.0&factor%5Bcha15_p%5D=228.0&cha16f=true&factor%5Bcha16_hr%5D=400.0&factor%5Bcha16_p%5D=228.0&x11f=true&factor%5Bx11_hr%5D=5600.0&factor%5Bx11_p%5D=266.0&x13f=true&factor%5Bx13_hr%5D=4000.0&factor%5Bx13_p%5D=266.0&cn=true&factor%5Bcn_hr%5D=640.0&factor%5Bcn_p%5D=304.0&ns=true&factor%5Bns_hr%5D=410.0&factor%5Bns_p%5D=228.0&adapt=true&factor%5Bcost%5D=0.06&commit=Calculate&sort=Profitability24&volume=&revenue=24h&keccakf=true&factor%5Bkeccak_hr%5D=480.0&factor%5Bkeccak_p%5D=304.0&grof=true&factor%5Bgro_hr%5D=15.0&factor%5Bgro_p%5D=228.0&wx=true&factor%5Bwx_hr%5D=130.0&factor%5Bwx_p%5D=228.0&lre=true&factor%5Blre_hr%5D=1150.0&factor%5Blre_p%5D=228.0

You can see that one coin is currently giving a profit off .65$ a day per 280x, a 280x ( or 7970) cost around 100$ right now, you will need the rest of the hardware but it is relatively cheap (~200$) and gpus can be stacked to 4-5 a motherboard fairly easy. Now lets look say you have a rig with 5 gpus this would set you back 700$ (if you didn't get a deal on mobo ram, cpu and hdd) @.06$ kwh it will take you 161 days to roi, now that sounds pretty close to S5 roi.

Lets look at s5 roi, lets say you can snag one for 400$ shipped and if difficulty stay the same and at the same power rate were looking at 197 days for break even. So heres the thing, one is mining altcoins and trading them and one is mining bitcoin.

Advantages of GPU Mining
Any Algo
Higher Resale
More opportunity to resale
easier to upgrade components

Advantages of Asic mining
Directly mines Bitcoin
Can solo mine for lottery
Simple to set up
Possibly longer component life span

The best option would be to buy a used ASIC like an S3 for less than $100. It will make money faster then with GPUs and its cheaper. The S5 is way overpriced. And its very difficult to buy an 280x for only $100, they are more like $150.

The HD mining is not a very good idea with a coin thats only worth 100 sats.
