Anyone know where I can buy such an adaptor for reasonable money? I've so far only been able to find this which is 200$ AKA shit expensive for a raiser: http://www.startech.com/product/PCIX1PEX4-PCI-X-to-x4-PCI-Express-Adapter-Card

it's not only a riser, there's some processing involved that converts from pci to pcie

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

1) i know but i doubt it's enough to justify that price tag.
2) it's PCI-X to PCI-E, not PCI to PCI-E Wink

Also before anyone asks why i need it: Some time ago i got a free rack server that has just been collecting dust so i figured i could convert it to a miner if i buy a few gfx cards for it Smiley

But isn't PCI-X basically a fast PCI? It's parallel (like PCI), whereas PCI-express is serial.

Looks like it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI-X

However after reading more about PCI-x it seems it's backwards compatibel with PCI and thus a PCI to PCI-E should work Smiley

I guess it would only give me a PCI-E 1x but it as far as i can read around here that doesn't matter for mining?

Nope, PCI-E 1x should be fine - in theory! Being cautious, however, I'd suggest trying one out first if you can - unless the PCI -> PCI-E card is cheap enough to not matter if it doesn't work?

I found one on ebay for 30$ including shipping so i'm probably going to buy it unless i find a PCI to PCI-E cable which would be much more ideal because it's only a 1U rack i got so mounting a graphics card is going to be a bit tricky  Grin

Either way i'll report back with my experinces so others can use make use of it Smiley
