I out of curiosity got into this thread because I read an article mentioning Siacoin's union with some big company, is that true? Also, apparently what you just wrote is good news! Am I lost something? Is this project getting ready to take off? Shocked

Many companies have already started exploring how Sia can be helpful.  Quite a few are working with Sia to implement it.

Some of them are already using Sia.

Check this out:
https://nextcloud.com/blog/introducing-cloud-storage-in-the-blockchain-with-sia-and-nextcloud/

Next cloud is an open source provider of storage solutions, like Drop Box but Opensource and free.

Sia is already gaining huge momentum, some leading fintech advisors ( eg: Brian Evans - Forbes writer) are talking about 4 coins at the moment with maximum potential - BTC, ETH, XRP and Sia.

Potential to make partnerships in outer world is huge because Sia is offering more cheaper but very effective way of storage. It is far more cheaper than already existed and established same kind of services provider. Couple of days my thought about this coin were I missed this train to get on because it could shoot up but it is again like opportunity for many people.

Have been looking at Sia last couple of days and looks very interesting.

Where can we buy if we want to invest? I see no easy way to buy?

Have been looking at Sia last couple of days and looks very interesting.

Where can we buy if we want to invest? I see no easy way to buy?

I just bought on poloniex 2 days back. But cant withdraw because poloniex have some issues which they have temporailiy halted withdrawal for many coins like Sia, BCN, etc.
So my money is in Poloniex till now

I badly wish I had more money to invest. So far very little. I hope the price stays same till 15th June when I get paid from my job, Im going to put a little to Sia.

@boopy : The potential is huge indeed, because I studied the whole Sia project before investing, and for those who understand the scope is unlimited.
Sia is not trying to replace Dropbox or iCloud, but wants to work together with Dropbox, Apple, Amazon and help these big companies leverage the true power of blockchain.

Many are just looking into Sia for a few moments and come to the conclusion that Sia is just trying to compete with Amazon or Dropbox, but that is not the case.
Sia plan is much bigger in scale, it plans to be the storage for amazon, apple, dropbox etc.
How does all these big companies store data today? They buy large buildings and turn them into storage warehouses, hire employees, several thousand TB of hard disks, computers, electricity, security etc. Thousands and thousands of dollars spent to store their data.

Sia vision is to help THESE COMPANIES cut down on this costs and move towards decentralized cloud storage for a fraction of the cost.

Even though they have GUI for everyone to explore, the real power is from using the Sia API.
Many are already using the API from the response I read in slack.

Suggest anyone interested to please read the right forums to get the complete information, I suggest anyone who is thinking of investing to join the original forums, that is where I got all the information and bigger picture directly from the developers.. who are active a lot there than over here or reddit

They want a robust system, so you need to put some skin in the game to be a host. I think it a great feature to incentivize hosts to be good hosts.

Over a dozen wallets are frozen on Poloniex from What  I hear.... They have blocked Monero withdrawals for over 2 weeks now. But you should get your coins, keep at it with support tickets

And yeah, hosts are charged (nominally) so that they deliver their promise to host files. IF they are not available for more than 95% uptime they are docked the contract fees.
Otherwise just about anyone will signup to be a host, and disappear after a couple of days and the users will struggle to get their files
Its not ridiculous, its a great idea. This system ensures hosts are incentivised to  maintain uptime throughout the contract otherwise they will be losing their deposit

BTW: This is the MIT Bitcoin presentation of David (taek), talks about everything you want to know about Siacoin

Grin Just bought my first portion of SC @571sat Smiley

Here is a comparison of sell/buy on poloniex:

SELL ORDERS Total: 1000093400.68161130 SC
BUY ORDERSTotal: 1748.00602145 BTC

It means: 3X more ppl want to get it at this moment.
Is This A Good Trend?

A critical error loading Sia has occured: Siad unexpectedly exited. Error log: Loading...
(0/6) Loading siad...
(1/6) Loading gateway...
(2/6) Loading consensus...
(3/6) Loading transaction pool...
Exception 0xc0000006 0x0 0x3111008 0x726920
PC=0x726920

thats all i get when trying to load the wallet :/
yes its same problem like me. and sync is very very slow
can you find a solution please?

For both of you: we need more info in order to help you.

- Is this the first time you open Sia?
- Which version are you using? Be sure to be using the last one (1.2.2) downloaded from the team's webpage http://sia.tech/apps/ DON'T use a wallet or client downloaded anywhere else. People is reporting some fake wallets around that will steal your funds.
- Windows, Mac, Linux?

As a first attempt, I would delete the installation folder and uncompress the Sia download again. If problem persists, try deleting also the blockchain, wallets and rest of the files (in Windows, they are in Users/your_user/appdata/roaming/Sia

It is perfectly normal the synchronization of the blockchain takes a long time: it will be about 2-3 days on an HDD or 1 day on an SSD

From Sia slack regarding fake wallets:

Quote
As a reminder, all Sia binaries are signed by the developer key, and all git tags are signed by me (lukechampine on GitHub). Instructions for verifying signatures can be found here: https://github.com/NebulousLabs/Sia/releases/tag/v1.0.1

If you discover a malicious third-party wallet, or an "official" Sia binary hosted on another site that fails signature verification, please alert us and other users.

I noticed that sometimes during the big pumps, wallet on polo doesn't work for the coins that is growing, so miners\holders cannot deposit and sell their coins.

Is there anyone who is aware of situation with polo SIA wallet? why it doesn't work?

I've also observed this. But this is more common with SIA. Initially, I thought the reason behind this was Polo, but after reading Reddit posts by SIA developers, I understood that it is due to their programming. Possibly, their integration fails when a large volume in place at Polo. Hopefully, it will be corrected so we can sell our coins to get profit.
I've just got response from Zach regarding wallet in polo:
"Hopefully in next day or two. We are still in close contact."

More updates from Zach:

Quote
We didn't expect blocks to be filling up as early as 2017, so the software didn't really have the capability to handle full blocks.
But... blocks are filling up now. Every few hours and sometimes several times in a row we'll have full blocks and full transaction pools. It's causing the network to choke. We've pushed out about 5 different fixes for various components of Sia that let them more gracefully handle full blocks, and we've got about 3 more in the pipeline.
We'll be doing a beta release of the new scalability stuff later this week, with hopefully the public release next week.
edit: need to mention that we've given the exchanges everything they need to get unstuck, Polo is dragging their feet but Bittrex has been working with us continuously. They should both be re-enabled soon.

Zach on the overall poloniex situation:

Quote
They are really really far behind. They went from being behind and having 2,000 users always online to being behind and having 50,000 users being always online in like 30 days.
First they had to scale the platform, then the ops team, then the support team, and now finally they can start shrinking the backlog. Or so I imagine. Suddenly onboarding 10x users is always going to hurt, Sia is feeling it too.
