Perhaps the low adoption of users and low usage of available storage is the reason for SC dropping. I have not tested Sia from a end user perspective, but if it is not super easy to buy storage as an end user, they will not attract private users who I think is a great market.

It's not overly easy and not ready yet for average Joe use. However that is not the goal. The aim is to be a back-end for 3rd party services.

It's more important to implement certain features first. believe me. you don't want to release a product for mainstream use before it's ready. first impressions count. that's why they're not promoting it as of yet.

Read this

https://www.reddit.com/r/siacoin/comments/785q7k/the_cost_to_own_1_million_sia_coins_is_cheap/dot598m/

What does that have to do with what I said?

Being new to cryptocurrency - what is the best way of buying Sia? Is the "exchange rate" the same using shapeshifer and bittrex? No use in wasting Sias

I recommend you buy Siacoin in bittrex or poloniex, shapeshit has most high exchange fee, about 5%-10%, I don't recommend such "instant" exchange, you can buy sia and withdraw it from bittrex or polo instantly.

Yes avoid shapeshift where you can, the exchange rate or spread of exchange can be ridiculous! Might be a bit more work to get on an exchange but it is generally worth it. Bittrex is the biggest but there is a few others. On coinmarketcap website if you go to Siacoin then select 'markets' it will say where you can get sia from Smiley

You will be laughing your way to the bank in a couple of years.  Sia actually has real cloud platforms using it as a backend.

I've got some extra siafunds to sell.  Selling 10 SiaFunds @ 3BTC each, which is the going rate over on the Bisq exchange.

Minebox is not an ASIC or "mining" gear. It is a Network Attached Storage that automatically backsup your data to the Sia network, and the remaining storage is offered to host other's data, getting some SC. You will get some SC, but I don't think you'll ever make ROI with it, specially as the 16TB version you are checking is overpriced in my opinion. It is however an excellent solution for people that have a huge amount of data to save and don't have already a NAS at home.

If you are only interested on the profits, its is still possible to make ROI of your disks if you assemble your own hosting computer, but definitely not with Minebox.

If you are interested on ASICs, there is one being developed right now: https://obelisk.tech/

Thank you for such detailed information, you provide great info and give positive support to Sia holders, I also believe that Sia and wish all the best to it. And the website you created is very cool, I was impressed to see such job from a fan.

Thanks a lot. It is my pleasure servicing the community  Smiley

Sia is the most underestimated project of recent growth on the btc, still scrubbing the bottom. It's sad, I just hope the whales will not sell off the price increase ...

I think we will see 100 satoshi in October
