Most people here on the forum cant afford to send the forum 10 BTC but we still want to help the forum out, how about this, each user has an address which they send tips to every now and again (when they have BTC to spare) and when their total tipped reaches 10 BTC, their account gains donator status, this is great for those of us who don"t have alot of BTC lying around.

You can donate as much or as little as you wish here: https://bitcointalk.org/donate.htmlDoubt anybody will ever get anywhere near 10btc in smaller donations nor would anyone likely want to.

How about a "lottery-style" system. People don't want the price of the donator tag changed as others had to pay it too, so how about for every 0.01BTC a person donates they get a 1/1000 chance at getting donator status? that would be pretty cool, though it's not so important as the forum already has lots of money.

I still don't think that would be fair to the other Donators. I'm not adverse to new lower donator ranks being added but like you say the forum doesn't need any more money so it wont be a priority.

People like me who dont use money in their country or exchange for fiat would like this system, its the only way that some users here are going to get donator status, no-one really has 10 or 50 BTC lying around

Make an address yourself and send all your spare btc there. Once you reach your 10 or 50 , just send it to the donations address. You shouldn't need to rely on the forum to keep it for you. Other donator status can be implemented but what more could you ask for? The 10 or 50 statuses are enough in my opinion.

Apparently the forum doesn't need or want any extra money. No need to donate. Save those BTC for yourselves. Bitcointalk doesn't need more money than it earns now.
The board is not in need of funds

There's a lot of users on the forum, if a part of the users were to donate something small like 0.1btc-5btc and the forum and it's servers/keys were retrieved, it wouldn't end well. This forum is a target for exploiters and hackers. * Apparently the forum doesn't need or want any extra money. No need to donate. Save those BTC for yourselves. I don't think that would be a good idea and I don't think it will work. He will hesitate to donate 10 BTC although he can spend same amount in dividends. That is a nature of human(exclude people leading luxurious lives). Other donator status can be implemented but what more could you ask for? The 10 or 50 statuses are enough in my opinion.
+1. Forum doesn't need any money more. So I doubt we will see more donator ranks. At the current value of BTC, 10 and/or 50 BTC is very high for a rank but users need some "status". So they are asking for smaller donator ranks. Maybe 5 BTC?

The cost of buying a donator status really is very high and is much higher then most people should be spending if their money habits are that of you spending all your money as soon as you have it

If that's his goal - to donate - he wouldn't veer off it. As the user above me said; Money management skills are needed.

Why would someone ever want to donate so much amount as to make it up to 10 BTCIf you really think you can reach this goal , choose a proper Escrow and talk to him and always send small amounts you have to him and when you think you have collected enough , ask him to give you , your's BTC . Pretty good for people who can't keep their Bitcoins without spending . Just like me , i spend them online or cash them out. But it's better than donating to the Forum , believe me they do not need it

the only problem i have with this is that escrows are humans too, they die and if they die, my btc dies with them, i've always had this fear when dealing with people over the internet, if the forum takes the money and keep a record of how much i have donated, I'd be happy with this, i think that even if theymos dies, this forum will go on

I think you can discuss about a multi-sig Wallet with a Escrow . There will be 3 keys , one with you , one with Escrow and one in a bank maybe ? Then if even one of you loose it or dies , there still be two keys and two keys are required to enter the wallet .

How about we find the last person who donated 10 btc to the forum and see what the USD value of those bitcoins were on that day, then set the new bitcoin limit to reach donator status equal to that amount of bitcoin today.

Last user who donated 10 BTC is fluffypony - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=94840. I think he donated it in April as 'Donate' page was last updated in April. The value of Bitcoin was probably between $235 and $250. I think this is good idea but it will be unfair if someone get 'Donator' status for <10 BTC. So this may not work. Anyway, I would like to here others' views on this.
