A list of email addresses and password hashes are presumed to have been stolen and deleting your account isn't going to change this (and that's assuming that it's even possible in the first place, which it isn't). If you have a weak password, then it could be cracked but changing your password to a different one should prevent this. Sure, the attacker won't be able to access your account anymore if it were completed deleted but simply changing your password for your account will accomplish the same thing.

Also, the attacker will still know your email address in addition to your password hash. If you used the same password for your email provider or any other sites then those could be cracked as well unless you changed their passwords too.

So basically, you should change your password for this site and all other sites which you used the same password in, and keep a closer eye on your email inbox since you could be seeing more spam in the coming days.

EDIT: With that being said, if you still want to delete your account then the closest thing that you can achieve to a complete deletion is to delete all of your posts (or at least the ones that are possible to delete), change your password to an impossibly long one, and walk away.

is a good idea.

another one: how about you make a thread "I hereby delete my account" and ask people to negative trust you with said thread as reference. that way it would be clear that your account is no longer used by you should there be a hack.

Given that OP hasn't been online since 13 minutes after posting this thread and his trust page shows that his password was changed recently, it looks like he listened to your advice.

Since his account was registered in 2012, he could have sold it for some BTC too although it's probably too late now. It's a newbie account so it's probably not worth much but he might have gotten a small amount (like 0.01 BTC) for it.

Dear GOD/GODS and/or anyone else who can HELP ME (e.g. MEMBERS OF SUPER-INTELLIGENT ALIEN CIVILIZATIONS): The next time I wake up, please change my physical form to that of FINN MCMILLAN of SOUTH NEW BRIGHTON at 8 YEARS OLD and keep it that way FOREVER. I am so sick of this chubby Asian man body! Thank you! - CHAUL JHIN KIM (a.k.a. A DESPERATE SOUL) P.S. If anyone is reading this then please pray for me! [ www.chauljhin.com ]

No, I didn't sell it. I forgot about it since i was away, and then received an e-mail that my account was accessed. But I changed my password, obviously, so hopefully nothing else happens.
