He can not return, and his identity must be hidden, but i guess he probably is giving contribution under another alias.
Problem with his return is US law, which states that it is illegal to create currency of your own, and bitcoin is exactly that. From what i could read, jailtime is unlikely to be avoided in this case.
Stop digging around/asking for him.

cheers

Yeah, but, as you said the problem is US law.
The US law is not applicable anywhere else.
Is it?

Ofc not, but where there's extradition treaty signed, he can not be safe. Didn't Anakata from TPB also run with his team away, but still got cought?
Anyways, other countries are not so different in law terms, since they have common goal in this question.
cheers

Do you (personally) think it would be a good idea for Satoshi to return?

But he did returned. He returned back to anonymity. No need for another return. Then he will sound like a Terminator.

No.  The legend of Satoshi had already passed the point where any human could successfully fill the role.

Do you (personally) think it would be a good idea for Satoshi to return?
Either now, or in the future?

And if he did, how do you think the rest of the world would react?
(Especially some governments)

It will not be a good idea for him because most people will search for him especially the goverment and if he did come back here and announce to the world who he really is, then there will be alot of rampage in this forum and also the world. If he got some thinking to comeback then I think he would have done it, but he keep on staying quiet this means that he dont plan to come back

Quite a lot of people are already searching for him.
But I do agree with you that he ain't planning on coming back.  At least not as Satoshi that is.
That is the reason he kept anonymous to begin with.

Most people are searching for him because of speculation that someone is satoshi because he show the same pattern like satoshi . LIke the newest one is Tupac, but I dont think that the world will be able to find him unless satoshi decided not to hide anymore. Even if satoshi is found, he can always deny that he is satoshi and people have no proof about it

True.
I am sure he made sure that there is no evidence that can link him to Satoshi.

I would like his official view on big subjects that may change fudamentals of BTC such as the Block size upgrade. It would be great if he said how amazing 20MB of block size limit is and how silly is to keep it at 1MB.

True.
But then again, he has predicted many things, such as the equilibrium stage, etc.
How could he miss that?

I must have missed that part, but, when was he NOT anonymous?

No.  The legend of Satoshi had already passed the point where any human could successfully fill the role.

But Satoshi was human - or at least that is what I gather from his posts.

Satoshi will always be welcome in this community, which is not what I can say about the rest of the world, especially some governments.

Well, if Bitcoin is veering towards a path he strongly disapproves of, he could make an appearance.
He needn't reveal himself, just a signed message from him would do.
Everybody would take notice and his voice would be heard.

The U.S. could get other countries to cooperate and he would be arrested. Look at the FIFA corruption scandal that is going on now. I do not see any benefit of the individual or individuals to stand up and claim they invented bitcoin. However, if countries decided they recognize bitcoin as a legitimate form of currency, that changes everything. Or maybe it won't be bitcoin but another crypto currency that a group of countries decides acceptable.

He should stay away.  All of the conspiracy theories are just too much fun.  Did you guys see the one about tupac?  It was awesome.  If he did come back I am not convinced that any government would notice or care.  I am willing to admit that I might  be wrong about that last part.

There really isn't a need for him anymore - at the early stages he was a key contributor not only in terms of coding but the ideas behind what Bitcoin should be and become. That stage has passed long ago - all it would do now is satisfy the curiosity of some people and present a target for himself to be tracked down by people who either want to prosecute him or want to blackmail him for his coins. I doubt he'll ever resurface given that neither of those scenarios are good for him and he gains nothing by returning.

Satoshi never admitted the truth, he is angry.

His main wish was that the hashing power shall stay decentralized, in order to generate the longest chain and outpace attackers.

Now I ask: Who of you is mining Bitcoin?

.. silence....

I ask again: Who here is solo mining? On their own machine. On their own property. You have no excuse. Attaching wire to wire is not stealing according to the scriptures.

To all the nonbelievers, screaming "But I'll never hit a hash".

Why are you asking Who is Satoshi? Satoshi Nakamoto is the voice of one calling: “In the internet Prepare the connectivity for the LORD, make straight the route. Let every BSS be lifted up, And every router and switch be made low. Then the glory of the LORD shall be revealed,
and all peers shall use it together; for the code of the LORD has compiled.

Oh yeah? I am sure you have proof for such an extreme statement as declaring someone has been dead for quite some time, otherwise that would just be ridiculous.
i think that its possible that hes dead as he should be wanted by a lot of people because of creating bitcoin

He would like to reassure us that he is still on his journey back to earth but had to make a stop on a planet in a different star system that was still using paper fiat.

He will be back.. and when that happens:
He will begin examining the blockchain daily and personally choosing seat assignments on his spaceship. Many factors come into play. Obviously those with more bitcoin will get better seats, but in the event of a tie he will choice more loyal bitcointalk posters over ones who express doubt.

Do you (personally) think it would be a good idea for Satoshi to return?
Either now, or in the future?

And if he did, how do you think the rest of the world would react?
(Especially some governments)

As Satoshi is a pseudonym representing an unknown entity or entities, how do you know the creator(s) of bitcoin ever left?

Remember Aaron Swartz, a 26 year old computer scientist who died defending the free flow of information.

No if I was Satoshi, why would I return. He already made so much money worth of BTC before anybody knew about it. And if he came back, the World would turn him into a star. He'd be successful either way.

It's a possibility but more or less doubtful in my mind, I think once he died word would get out of who he was, a few people on this forum know who he was/is I am pretty sure. (Theymos, Gavin and others)

What makes you think that Gavin or Theymos or anyone else knows who he is?

Yes, I think he should briefly return to giveaway the coins he cannot spend to us, his loyal supporters here on bitcointalk. He could do it and announce what he had done through a message in the blockchain without ever having to log in here, or make any posts here.
