The Department of Justice is concentrating on “far-right” groups in a new study of social media usage aimed at combatting violent extremism.

The Justice Department’s National Institute of Justice (NIJ) awarded Michigan State University $585,719 for the study, which was praised by Eric Holder, the former attorney general, earlier this year.

“There is currently limited knowledge of the role of technology and computer mediated communications (CMCs), such as Facebook and Twitter, in the dissemination of messages that promote extremist agendas and radicalize individuals to violence,” according to the NIJ grant. “The proposed study will address this gap through a series of qualitative and quantitative analyses of posts from various forms of CMC used by members of both the far-right and Islamic extremist movements.”

The study draws more upon right-wing forums than upon the corners of the web inhabited by Islamist extremists.

Wonderful news! I just hope that idiots like Eric Holder will continue to waste valuable tax payer money like this. As a result, the Americans will run out of money to sponsor their war machine.  Grin This will save the lives of millions of innocent people, including women and children, who would otherwise die in American airstrikes.

That's an oddly specific amount and are any of us really surprised they're pulling this kind of shit?

Even the most die-hard social conservative hates muslim extremists, it seems to me like this is either really crappy reporting or a poorly thought out attempt to group everybody the U.S government don't like into into one category when they don't realise the sheer variety of people who are arrayed against them.

The US has been 'out of money' since 1835. Hasn't stopped the war machine.

No surprise here other than why they just don't conduct the survey or whatever themselves rather than pay MSU, who by the way, I no longer root for over UM. The left gets in power and targets groups that don't support them (this and IRS incident) and the Bush folks did the same to the so-called antiwar people back then that apparently just vanished the day Obama got in.

I agree with everything you said. I would venture to guess that it is a little bit of both. Is there really any news source that isn't guilty of crappy reporting? The left leaning ones are especially guilty. But this administration has shown time and again to be more than intolerant of anything that goes against their status quo.

The shortage of money will have its effect. If the central bank prints tons and tons of banknotes, then the value of the United States Dollar will go down against the other currencies, such as the Euro, UK Pound and CNY. It will discourage the Americans from blatantly attacking other sovereign nations, without any provocation.

You are not getting it.

1. Neo-nazis are OK, as long as they are supporting the US and the NATO (such as the Azov Battalion and the Right Sector in Ukraine). However, if they are anti-US, they must be eradicated.

2. Radical Islamists are OK, if they are anti-Russia and pro-US. For example, the US have armed and equipped the Taliban in the 1980s, when they were fighting against the Russians. Similarly, they are supporting the Al Nusra Front and the ISIS, in an effort to topple Bashar al Assad.

Do people honestly consider Obama to be leftwing?

Maybe it's like in the UK where we have a Labour party that was born out of the socialist parties and powerful (at the time) trade unions, but its now become a mild conservative cesspool of over privileged millionaires. Guess Wu-Tang were right, it's all about that dollar dollar bill y'all.

far right is anyone who doesn't support faggot "marriage" and amnesty for third world immigrants according to these assholes

Be radical, have principles, be absolute, be that which the bourgeoisie calls an extremist: give yourself without counting or calculating, don't accept what they call ‘the reality of life' and act in such a way that you won't be accepted by that kind of ‘life', never abandon the principle of struggle.

The US created three trillion dollars out of thin air through quantitative easing. Didn't cause inflation because the money just sits in banks and doesn't make it into the economy. So your conclusion isn't proving out at the moment. (Not that that can't change, but the things you say should be happening currently aren't.)

At the same time, their allies in Qatar and Saudi Arabia are beheading people, on the mere suspicion of being gay. Makes me suspicious about the real intentions of the Justice Department. Lots and lots of double-speak. On one side, they are persecuting anyone who is perceived as pro-family, and on the other hand, they are supporting people, who behead gays.
