According to the story, this man reached the destination, where a person (perhaps 19 years old or so) had persuaded our victim to finalize the transaction in the car (a silver honda accord).  At that point, the victim went to the car and was held up by another man and threatened at gunpoint to transfer about 1100 dollars worth of bitcoin to the robbers.  They also had taken his cell phone as well.

Economically and potentially physically suicidal to trade BTC in NYC, if you don't go through metal detectors with armed security at all access points (ie courthouses). Or just violate "gun control", because violent criminals give zero fucks and have all the guns they want at all times everywhere else.

Hiring goons to rob someone will cost you at least $10,000 in the NYC. 

And why should anyone spend 10K to rob 1K, that too in Bitcoins? This robbery was done by some really stupid people, who will be caught very soon and sent to prison for participating in armed robbery. 10 years in jail for stealing $1,100.
