Question is in the title. My curiosity was triggered by a few posts by various people suggesting the addition of extra Global Mods due to a new influx of spammers (although I raise the question of how long that influx will last in the slightly longer-term).

As a note, I'm not going to create any discourse in this thread on who should become a Global Mod and I recommend others shouldn't as well. I do encourage discourse on whether there should be a new Global Mod, just not who should be promoted. Debates such as that often degenerate into either vouching for the person you like most or making guesses with no real evidence to back your guess up, as you can not see who handles things in the mod log (unless you have access to the Mod CP I assume, in which case, you probably have a better place to suggest Global Mod promotions).

No idea if either theymos or BadBear specifically handles promotions now or if they both do it jointly, so I'll just address to both.

It was better to send a PM rather than opening a thread for potential spams.

I believe some more would be very beneficial, or at least some new moderators for some of the sections that aren't moderated. Reports can take quite a while to get handled in certain sections and this gets worse on the weekends (understandably) with reports often going unhandled over it. I would say promote some of the more active mods who handle the most reports though take my bias into consideration seeing as I would fall into that criteria (though I think it would be logical to promote the most active mods). You can get a rough estimate of the most active staff from the mod payments so it can be based on evidence and theymos will have access to further stats. As for new moderators I would like to see the updated reports table. I think people like shorena will be up at the top and would make good mods as they seem to know the rules and are very active which are the two main criteria.

Why didn't you PM DiamondCardz this instead then? Practice what you preach.

Potential spam? We should conduct the entire forum in PMs then, by your logic...? I created a thread because a) it seems like this would be better to be stated in the public domain and b) there is potential for discourse.

I believe some more would be very beneficial, or at least some new moderators for some of the sections that aren't moderated. Hmm, indeed. Section-specific mods could also help to alleviate the problem (Technical Support and Project Development spring to mind as the main un-modded sections), but there aren't too many unmodded sections so it would seem just one or two more Global Mods would result in a similar fix. Of course timezones are important too.

And of course, that would be the logical way to choose a new Global Mod. A new goodReports table could be interesting. I'd be on it if it was made with the same amount of people as before I believe, but not close to the top. (I only have 306 * 0.96 = ~294 good reports, I groom my accuracy more than my report count Wink)

Yup, an updated table would be interesting. Is there a table which says during which hours moderation is low? That seems to be an important criterion as well.

Your success rate doesn't actually matter all that much. If you're above 60%, we'll teach you the rest once you become a mod. As long as you can maintain that, quantity of reports is much more important than quality. Specifically, we're looking for people who report things during time periods where the reports aren't immediately acted on, because that indicates a need for additional moderators for that time block. People who report things during those time are far more likely to be chosen, and you're more likely to report during those times if you report more in general.
